Chapter 112 Zhou Quan's family moved to a new home

After the family moved in, they weren't particularly excited. They had encountered a flood and lived in a cramped tent for more than two months. Coupled with the fatigue and exhaustion of those two months, their only feeling at that moment was that they could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Things have finally settled down.

The family moved in early in the morning. Zhuzhu was carrying a small package and walked to the new yard by herself.

Zhao Shi, Li Mai, and Zhou Tao cooked together. Old Man Zhou also cleaned out another pheasant that Li Mai had taken out of her space. Zhao Shi made braised chicken with yellow wine, while Li Mai made braised pork, stewed a pot of ribs, and steamed some buns.

The pork and ribs were bought yesterday when Li Mai went to town to discuss some matters before departure with Mrs. Fisherman.

Li Mai is now very influential at the slaughterhouse. Whenever she goes there, she's guaranteed a basketful of spare ribs for the day, free of charge.

From the owner to the head chef, everyone greets Li Mai with a smile.

In return, Li Mai taught them a way to cook fish, which he called grilled fish.

Yesterday, after she went there, she bought 20 catties of pork and 10 catties of lard for her family. The owner also gave her a large bamboo basket of spare ribs.

Li Mai stewed half of the pork ribs today, and the rest will be for Zhao Shi and others to eat on Old Master Zhou's birthday. Old Master Zhou's birthday is the nineteenth day of the tenth month.

About five catties of pork were used. The rest was made into braised pork chunks by Zhao when she was rendering lard, so they could eat them slowly.

Today, Zhou Quan's family moved to a new house, and naturally, many people came to congratulate them. The clan head and his son, along with eight foremen, were all invited by Zhou Quan and his father.

In addition, the families of Uncle Wangcai and Uncle Lincai, who are the two families with whom our family is closest, were also invited.

Also present were Zhou Daniu's family, and Zhou Zhong, Zhou Tao, and their three companions—who were close friends of Zhou Quan, and whom Zhou Quan had also invited. However, only the four of them came; they were too embarrassed to bring their entire families.

Zhou Lin only invited his senior apprentice Zhou Lainiu and his family, but only Zhou Lainiu came. His family members were too embarrassed to come. The Zhou family had paid for the house construction, and they hadn't helped, so they felt awkward having the whole family come to eat and drink.

In addition, Li Mai also invited four other people who were in charge with her. Aunt Da Niu and Sister-in-law Shi Fan had already come with their families, while the other two came on their own, as they were too embarrassed to bring their families.

Besides three stewed meat dishes, Li Mai and Zhao also stir-fried four meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, and made a soup. Their staple foods were steamed buns, rice, and millet cakes.

The millet was soaked last night, and this morning Zhou Lin and Zhou Lei made the flour. Zhao steamed the millet cakes this morning. It's their custom to eat millet cakes when moving to a new house.

There's an old saying: "If you don't eat rice cake when you move, you'll move nine times a year; but if you eat millet cake when you move, your life will get better and better."

After moving, Li Mai took the opportunity to bring out all the vegetables and grains that she had stored for her family in the space.

Chickens and rabbits were also sent to the shack area.

Finally, they also brought out their old wardrobe and placed it in each person's room. The two of them put the wardrobe that they used to have in their room into the room where Zhou Tao and Zhu Zhu lived. The wardrobe that the two elders used to have in the main room was put into the room where Zhou Lin and Zhou Lei lived, since there was no wardrobe in their room before.

The new wardrobe that was made after the house was built was placed in the room where the two elders live, since they often receive neighbors and guests.

There were quite a few people today, but Zhou Quan's family only had three tables, so they ate in two batches.

The men ate the first batch, and the women and children ate the second batch.

After living and eating together for two months, the villagers have developed a better and closer relationship than before.

At noon, Zhou Quan also drank quite a bit of alcohol with his elders and brothers. The alcohol was bought by Li Mai and stored in his space, just in preparation for drinking when moving to the new house.

After lunch, Zhou Quan saw the guests off and went back to the room where the two of them were staying to rest.

After Li Mai and Zhou Tao finished tidying up, and Zhu Zhu followed Zhou Tao back to their room to rest, she also went back to her room.

Unexpectedly, Zhou Quan was still awake, lying on the kang (a heated brick bed).

"Weren't you sleepy? Why are you still awake?" Li Mai tidied up some simple things in the room on the floor.

Zhou Quan sat up, his eyes fixed intently on her. "I'll be waiting for you!"

Li Mai met his blurry, drunken eyes and chuckled, "You're so drunk, and you're still thinking about me? Go to sleep, you shouldn't have anything to do this afternoon, get a good rest."

Zhou Quan chuckled twice and stretched out his hand to her, "Come lie down with me for a while!"

Li Mai chuckled, feeling a bit tired herself, and thought it would be good to lie down.

After taking off her shoes and getting onto the kang (a heated brick bed), Li Mai said as she was about to look for a pillow, "Go to sleep. I have something to do after you fall asleep."

Zhou Quan hummed softly and lay down, opening his arms and waiting for her to come over.

Li Mai gave up on getting a pillow and lay down next to him, only to be tightly embraced by Zhou Quan, who then kissed her with a scent of wine.

Since the construction of the house began two months ago, the two of them have not had any intimate contact. Zhou Quan has devoted himself to the construction of the new village, leaving early and returning late every day. When he gets home, he can only say a few words to Li Mai at most. Also, because Zhu Zhu is with them, the two of them dare not have any intimate behavior in front of the child, for fear of having a bad influence on the child.

Zhou Quan finally moved into his new home today, and he immediately relaxed. He even drank a few extra drinks at noon because he was so happy.
