Chapter 118 Using Spirit Herbs to Heal Li Dong's Father's Leg Injury

"I... I'll go to his house later. Thank you, Auntie and Uncle Wanchun," Li Mai quickly said thank you.

When Li Dong visited her home before, she originally planned to bring Zhou Quan back to pay respects to his grandmother after he recovered, and also to take the grain back so that they could eat for a while.

But things changed so quickly. First, the Zhou family suddenly became wealthy and no longer needed the food. Then, a heavy rainstorm destroyed the village. She was busy and didn't return, still thinking that if she saw Li Dong again, she could ask him to take her remaining food home to eat!

Now that Li Dong has taken it back, let's go tell him so his family can eat it!

As for this little courtyard, let's just keep it locked!

When Aunt Chun heard that she was going to Li Dong's house, she paused for a moment and said, "If you're going, I'll tell you something, so you can be prepared."

Li Mai nodded, "Please speak!"

“Last month, when Li Dong and his father were harvesting the autumn crops, they were carrying too much stuff and accidentally fell into a ditch, both of them getting hurt. In the past month, they’ve consulted quite a few doctors, and it’s probably drained their savings.”

"Fortunately, Li Dong seems to be doing better. I saw him walking around the village a few days ago, but his father doesn't seem to be well yet," Aunt Chun said.

Li Mai frowned. She hadn't expected that Li Dong's calamity would come true. She should go and see for herself.

After thanking Aunt Chun, he handed the key back to her and left her two taels of silver as a token of his gratitude. Then he took Zhou Quan up the mountain to pay respects to his grandmother.

Offerings were placed in front of the old lady's grave, and paper money was burned. Li Mai and Zhou Quan kowtowed together again, and Li Mai introduced Zhou Quan to the old lady in a long, rambling manner.

"Grandma, this is your grandson-in-law, the one you picked out for me. What do you think, Grandma? Don't you think you have excellent taste?"

“Grandma, his name is Zhou Quan. He was injured before and couldn’t walk, so he couldn’t come to visit you in time. Now that he’s fully recovered, I brought him here.”

"Grandma, you should be reincarnated soon, right? I hope you can be reborn into a rich family in your next life, so you can be a young lady of high society. A few decades later, I guess I can be your granddaughter. By then, I'll be a third-generation rich kid, and I won't have to go up the mountain to dig for herbs every day anymore."

"Haha, Grandma, can you see I've gained a little weight? I'm doing very well now. My in-laws treat me very well, and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law respect me a lot. Oh, by the way, Grandma, I also have a three-year-old daughter, Zhou Quan's daughter. But don't worry, he didn't do anything bad outside. She's not his child, but the child of his coworker who had the accident. Since no one was there to take care of the child, Zhou Quan brought her back and adopted her as his daughter."

“That child is so cute, I love him too. Grandma, you said I got a great deal by being able to become a mother without pain? Haha, I’ll bring the child to meet you when he’s a little older.”

When Zhou Quan heard her say that she could be a mother without pain, he felt guilty and gently reached out to hold her hand.

Seeing his expression, Li Mai smiled helplessly, "Don't overthink it, I'm just telling Grandma about my situation."

Zhou Quan nodded silently and murmured an "Mmm".

When he adopted Zhuzhu, he never imagined that he would be able to stand up again, get married, or meet such a beloved woman. Now he has done right by his coworkers, but he feels somewhat sorry for the woman he loves.

However, if he had to do it all over again, he would probably still do the same thing. The thought of how such a lovely girl like Zhuzhu might be treated badly made it impossible for him to ignore her.

After Li Mai finished speaking, Zhou Quan also expressed his filial piety and loyalty to Xiao Mai at the old lady's grave, reassuring his grandmother that he would spend the rest of his life with his wife and children, growing old with Li Mai.

When the two returned to the village, it was already noon, and they went directly to Li Dong's house.

Upon entering the courtyard, they smelled a medicinal odor.

Li Mai knew which room Li Dong lived in, so she went up and knocked on the door.

Soon, the door to the other room opened, and Li Dong came out. When he saw Li Mai and Zhou Quan, Li Dong's eyes widened in disbelief. "Boss, what brings you here? Oh, brother-in-law is all better?"

Li Mai nodded and asked, "Why does your house smell so strongly of medicine? Is someone sick?"

Li Dong said helplessly, "My dad!"

Li Mai followed him into the room where Li Dong's parents lived. She saw Li Dong's father lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), Li Dong's mother feeding his younger brother, and his younger sister sitting alone on a small stool on the ground eating.

“Xiaomai? What brings you here? Is this your husband?” Li Dong’s mother, Madam Shen, quickly got down from the ground and asked Li Mai.

“This is my husband, Auntie. His name is Zhou Quan. We came back to pay respects to my grandmother. What happened to my uncle?” Li Mai asked.

"Oh dear, you broke your leg." Madam Shen sighed. "You two haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll go make you something to eat. You two sit down for a while."

“No need, Auntie. I know some medicine. How about I take a look at Uncle?” Li Mai asked.

Madam Shen was taken aback. "You know medicine?"

"Yes, I have actually studied medicine with Dr. Niu over the past few years, and Li Dong knows that."

Shen looked at Li Dong.

Li Dong glanced at Li Mai and nodded subconsciously.

Actually, he thought that the boss's medical skills were probably just average, because he hadn't seen her learn from Doctor Niu a few times, but at this moment in front of the boss, he didn't dare to reveal her secrets.

"Oh, then you can take a look at your uncle. He's been taking medicine for over a month, but it doesn't seem to be helping," Madam Shen said with a sigh.

“Okay, Auntie, you don’t need to cook. I’ll be leaving in a bit. Oh, by the way, I don’t want the grain that Li Dong helped me salvage. You can keep it!” After saying this to Shen, Li Mai took off her shoes, got onto the kang (a heated brick bed), and asked Li Dong’s father, who was silently watching her.
