Li Mai returned to the kitchen, walked around inside, took a bowl, and with a thought entered her spatial dimension. She went straight to the spiritual spring water, scooped out a bowlful, and drank it herself.
Ah, it's so sweet!
She let out a comfortable sigh, scooped up another half bowl, and with a thought, left the space, carrying it directly out to the courtyard towards Zhou Quan.
Zhou Quan's gaze remained fixed on the kitchen doorway. When he saw her come out, he was taken aback; she was carrying a bowl.
"You've been staring at me the whole time, were you thirsty?" Li Mai smiled and handed her a bowl of water.
Zhou Quan subconsciously took it, "Thank you, I am indeed a little thirsty."
After finishing the drink, Zhou Quan smacked her lips, as if the water tasted especially sweet this morning. Was it because she personally handed it to her?
But he absolutely dared not say that; if he did, he would be suspected of being a lecher.
He obediently handed the bowl back. "You can cook?"
“Yes, my grandma taught me. Sometimes I’m the one who cooks.” Li Mai nodded and asked, “Aren’t you cold sitting outside? It’s not as hot in the morning as it is in the late morning.”
"It's not cold. It's cooler outside than inside. I sometimes go outside to sunbathe," Zhou Quan said, shaking his head.
"That's good, getting more sun is a good thing."
Inside the west room, Zhou Lin and Zhou Lei peeked through the crack in the door at their elder brother and sister-in-law interacting in the courtyard. A smile played on their lips. How delightful.
My older brother never used to chat with them so softly, but now he's making conversation with my sister-in-law even when there's nothing to say. It seems that he's not in a bad mood because he's injured and doesn't want to talk to people, but rather he's selective about who he talks to.
Inside the main house, Old Man Zhou peeked through the crack in the door to watch his son and daughter-in-law interacting in the courtyard, a fatherly smile on his face.
That's great. Look at my son's silly face; he likes this wife. That's good.
As long as their son is happy, they will treat their daughter-in-law well in the future, as long as she doesn't dislike her son or leave him.
"Grandpa, what are you looking at?" Suddenly, Zhuzhu's soft, puzzled voice came from behind Old Man Zhou.
"Look at the way your dad and mom are talking, hehe, Zhuzhu, you can't go out and disturb them now. Wait until after dinner, then you can go and deliver the clothes. That's what your grandma told you before she went to bed."
Old Man Zhou was afraid that the little guy would go out and ruin the atmosphere.
"Okay!" Zhuzhu pouted. Actually, she wanted to go out and stay with her parents. She didn't understand why her grandfather told her to finish her meal before going to find her mother.
But she's a good girl, she'll listen to what she's told.
Li Mai talked with Zhou Quan for a while, then went back to the kitchen to check on the porridge.
She cooked it a little longer to make the porridge more glutinous. The porridge with cornmeal and mung bean pieces was even sweeter and had a different kind of sweetness than the sweetness of porridge with added sugar.
While waiting for the porridge, she saw that the dough had risen enough, so she started rolling it out. After rolling it out, she drizzled some oil on it with a spoon, poured on the chopped green onions she had mixed earlier, rolled the dough up in one direction, cut it into small pieces, and then rolled them into scallion pancakes.
After preparing five, the work surface was covered with porridge. Li Mai checked and found that the porridge was almost ready, so she found a large basin and poured out a pot of mixed grain porridge.
After that, she washed the pot and started making scallion pancakes.
Soon, the aroma of scallion pancakes wafted through the courtyard, drawing several glances from the people in the yard towards the kitchen.
At the hour of Chen (7-9 AM), Li Mai finished preparing breakfast and came out to call everyone to eat.
At this moment, Zhao Shi and Zhou Tao were also called up by Old Man Zhou.
Today is, after all, the first day since the daughter-in-law entered the family. They have already made breakfast for them, and everyone must be present when it's time to eat.
Everyone ate together in the main house.
Zhao and Zhou Tao both looked a little tired; they had stayed up most of the night making clothes under the lamp, and their eyes were still a bit red.
With Zhou Lin's help, Li Mai brought back the porridge and pancakes, as well as the bowls and chopsticks.
When Li Mai was about to help scoop porridge for everyone, Zhou Tao quickly stepped forward to take over, saying, "Sister-in-law, I'll do it. I'm sorry I went to bed late last night. I'll make lunch. Thank you for breakfast."
Li Mai smiled and said, "It's nothing, it's what I should do."
She didn't argue with Zhou Tao, but sat down next to Zhou Quan and looked at Zhao Shi, "Mother, did you stay up all night? Why are your eyes so red? Apply a warm cloth to your eyes for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, and you'll feel better. If your eyes hurt, alternate between applying a warm and a cold cloth for 15 minutes at a time, and you'll feel better after half an hour."
Hearing Li Mai's words, Zhao nodded with a smile, "Okay, Mother will listen to you. I'll apply it after I finish eating."
But she didn't say why she stayed up late last night.
Zhou Quan also looked at his mother and sister with a puzzled expression. What were they doing staying up all night last night?
I remember when they were little, for a few years a month before the Lunar New Year, their mother would often stay up all night to make new clothes and shoes for the five of them.
Could it be that Mother and Xiaotao stayed up late again last night making clothes?
However, Zhou Quan was smart enough not to ask anything. He took the porridge his sister scooped for him, but first placed it in front of Li Mai.
Zhou Tao ladled some porridge for her parents first, then for her older brother. She was originally going to give the next bowl to Li Mai, but when she saw her older brother give his porridge to Li Mai, she chuckled and gave the bowl she had just ladled to her older brother.
After Zhou Tao finished serving herself and sat down, Old Man Zhou picked up his chopsticks and said, "Alright, let's eat. You worked hard on breakfast, Xiaomai. Your mother will cook lunch and dinner, so you don't need to cook. Get some rest; you still have an injury on your head."
Zhao then followed up on Zhou's words and asked if Li Mai's wound was still bleeding and whether they needed to call a doctor. She must have already heard from Zhou that Li Mai had a head injury.
“No need, Mother, I’m much better now.” Li Mai waved her hand.
