Chapter 17 Li Mai is touched by her in-laws' thoughtfulness

Zhuzhu happily said that she liked eating her mother's cooking.

Li Mai smiled and reached out to pat her head.

The Zhou family raised Zhuzhu very well.

After the meal, Zhou Lin said that he would be going to Lijia Village with his master to do carpentry work today, and asked Li Mai if there was anything he could do for her.

Li Mai thought for a moment and shook her head. "There's nothing to say. When I left, I asked Aunt Chun to look after the yard for me. Oh, by the way, if you know Li Dong, please tell him that I'm doing well here, and that he can come find me if he needs anything."

“Okay, sister-in-law!” Zhou Lin replied and left.

Li Mai was about to wash the dishes, but Zhou Tao quickly went to do the same.

Zhao gave Zhuzhu a look, and Zhuzhu chuckled, went over to the kang (a heated brick bed), picked up the neatly folded new clothes, and placed them in Limai's hands, saying in a childish voice, "Mom, here you go, these are the new clothes that Grandma and Auntie made last night."

Li Mai was taken aback. Huh? New clothes? She subconsciously looked at Zhao Shi.

Zhao smiled and said, “Yesterday I noticed that your clothes were a bit old. Luckily, we had two pieces of fabric at home. Since it’s your mourning period, it wouldn’t be appropriate to make a peach pink one directly, and a blue floral one would be too plain. So I decided to make you a two-tone one.”

"Go back and try it on. See if it fits. If it doesn't, Mom will fix it later."

Li Mai was stunned. It was made especially for her? So, her mother and Xiao Tao stayed up all night last night to make her new clothes?

Suddenly, Li Mai was deeply moved. This was the greatest kindness she had felt from the people in this strange world since she had traveled here.

She looked up at Zhao Shi and said, choking back tears, "Thank you, Mother and Xiao Tao."

"Oh, no need to thank me, we're family, no need for thanks, just go and try it!" Zhao Shi chuckled and waved her hand.

Li Mai looked at Zhou Quan.

After a moment of surprise, Zhou Quan smiled and nodded at her, "Go on, go back to your room and change. I'll wait here."

Li Mai nodded, picked up her clothes, went out, and went back to her room to change.

As the door closed, Zhou Quan bowed to Zhao Shi, "Thank you, Mother!"

"No need to thank me, Xiaoquan. Your wife is a good one. She seems like a kind girl. You should treat her well. Since you have difficulty moving around, be sweet-talking and show her more care."

"After the autumn harvest this year, I plan to go to town to invite a doctor to take a good look at you. If we're lucky, we might find a good doctor, and maybe you can even stand up again!" Zhao comforted her son.

Zhou Quan smiled and said, "Thank you, Mother. But there's no need to go to town to ask for help. Xiaomai knows medicine herself. She took my pulse last night and said that once she buys a set of silver needles, she will help my son with acupuncture to see if he gets any better."

Zhao was startled, her eyes widening. "What? Son, your daughter-in-law knows medicine?"

"Yes, I only found out last night when she took my pulse. But, Mother, I guess her medical skills are just some routine ones. You shouldn't spread it around. We have doctors in our village, and Xiaomai doesn't plan to open a clinic. Let's avoid causing her any trouble." Zhou Quan instructed his mother, afraid that she might accidentally tell others while praising her.

"Don't worry, Mother knows what's important. Treating illnesses is no child's play. If someone comes to Xiaomai and she can't cure their illness, she'll be scolded." Zhao knew how to weigh the pros and cons.

"Okay!" Zhou Quan responded.

Of course, if Li Mai heals himself and word gets out, then when others know that Li Mai has medical skills, they will come to him seeking treatment, and that will be a different story.

Just as the mother and daughter finished speaking, Li Mai returned.

Zhou Tao and Zhuzhu followed behind.

Zhou Quan turned to look at her in her new clothes, a slight smile playing on his lips. "You look great!"

Li Mai smiled at him and said to Zhao Shi, "Mother, it fits perfectly. Thank you. Your sewing skills are excellent. You even embroidered wheat ears on the belt."

This small detail touched Li Mai deeply.

"It's alright. We have five children of our own. When we were busy in the fields, we would make clothes for them whenever we had a spare moment. After making so many, my skills are passable!" Zhao was a little embarrassed by her daughter-in-law's praise.

"My mother embroidered the wheat ears; I don't know how to embroider!" Zhou Tao said shyly, not afraid of being laughed at by her sister-in-law.

"Thank you, Xiaotao. You've worked so hard. You and your mother can lie on the kang for a while, and I'll massage and apply something to your eyes. Your eyes will be less red and you'll feel much more comfortable."

"Really?" Zhou Tao asked eagerly.

"Okay, after you wash the dishes, put some hot water in the pot. It doesn't need to boil, just warm it up," Li Mai instructed.

“Okay!” Zhou Tao agreed.

Li Mai stood up and went back inside. Seeing that Zhu Zhu hadn't followed, she went into her spatial dimension and checked the herb garden. The herbs she had planted before were still growing. However, the herbs she had planted were all useful for her previous cultivation of supernatural abilities, but now she couldn't cultivate anymore. So she could only let these herbs continue to grow.

However, some of them can still be used and can be added when preparing medicine for Zhou Quan.

Soon, Zhou Tao returned with a basin of half a basin of hot water.

Zhao also brought over two white cloths and put them inside.

Li Mai had the mother and daughter lie on the kang (a heated brick bed), with their heads facing the edge of the kang. She warmed her hands in a basin of hot water, moved a stool over and sat on the edge of the kang. She first massaged several acupoints around Zhao's eyes to help relax the muscles around her eyes and promote blood circulation.

Zhao felt very comfortable from the massage and began to feel drowsy.

“If Mother is sleepy, she can take a nap,” Li Mai said softly.

Upon hearing this, Zhao relaxed and fell asleep.

After massaging Zhao, a hot towel was applied, and then Zhou Tao was massaged.

"Sister-in-law, you're amazing! That massage felt so good." Zhou Tao wasn't sleepy at all and was still chatting with Li Mai.

Beside her, Zhuzhu stood curiously watching Li Mai.

"Sister-in-law, who did you learn from?" Zhou Tao asked curiously.

“An old Chinese medicine doctor taught me a few acupressure techniques to make my grandmother feel better when she was feeling unwell, since we didn’t have much money to see a doctor or buy medicine.”

"Later, I figured it out on my own!"

In fact, Li Mai often dug up medicinal herbs and sold them to some clinics and doctors in the town. The doctors did teach Li Mai some methods for caring for the elderly.

These memories also existed in the original owner's memories.

Zhou Quan sat quietly on the stool, watching Li Mai busy helping her mother and Xiao Tao.

Even without turning her head, Li Mai could feel a gaze sweeping over her from behind.

This guy is pretty brazen about peeping at people.

After Li Mai applied a hot towel to Zhou Tao's face, Zhou Tao fell asleep.

She stood up, stretched, looked at Zhuzhu who had been standing beside her, took her hand, and asked with a smile, "Zhuzhu, what do you usually do? Is there anything you'd like your mother to do with you?"
