On the twentieth day of the first lunar month, Zhou Quan and Li Mai finished arranging things in the village and drove their horse-drawn carriage back to town.
I didn't bring Zhuzhu or Xiaotao today.
They're coming back today to look at a shop; they had arranged with Manager Bai of the brokerage firm to visit one today.
Unexpectedly, Lu Qian was also there when they went to the brokerage.
Li Mai pursed her lips, "Young Master Lu, don't tell me the shop we're going to look at is also yours?"
Lu Qian quickly waved his hand, "No, of course not. But the shop you're looking at is next to my family's restaurant. And the shop you're looking at belongs to my friend. He doesn't live in town anymore and asked me to sell it for him. I have the key."
Li Mai and Zhou Quan exchanged a glance, speechless.
However, the location that Manager Bai mentioned was the one that Li Mai had her eye on the most, so she didn't want to miss out on this shop.
"Okay, let's go take a look!" Li Mai was a little annoyed. This feeling of having to accept help was actually a bit unpleasant.
The Lu family truly deserves to be the richest family in this town; they probably own about 30% of the shops in the town!
The shop was located on Qinggu Street, the most bustling street in Qingshi Town, where business people considered it an honor to own a shop.
So when Li Mai heard that someone was selling a shop on this street, she was quite surprised.
Now she knows it was Lu Qian's doing.
Even if the shop belongs to his friend, it's probably going to be sold to him, or it already has.
He's giving this away to himself.
Li Mai wasn't ungrateful; once again, she owed Lu Qian a favor.
After seeing it, Li Mai was naturally satisfied. It had two floors, with the first floor being over 30 square meters, and the two floors together totaling over 60 square meters. Such a shop could be considered a large shop.
Right next door is Lu Ji's Yingxianglou Restaurant; the location is really good.
Lu Ji's Yingxianglou now occupies the storefronts of three shops, and it looks very impressive.
Li Mai glanced at the Xu Family Teahouse on the other side.
Lu Qian said his friend wanted to sell this shop for six hundred taels of silver.
Li Mai didn't haggle and paid right away.
The price isn't too outrageous.
Zhou Quan and Lu Qian followed Manager Bai to complete the formalities, while Li Mai looked around the shop, starting to think about how to decorate it to make it more special.
This shop used to be a wine shop, and it should have been doing very well since it was next to Yingxianglou. But I don't know why it closed down.
After Zhou Quan returned, it was lunchtime, so Lu Qian took them both to his own Yingxiang Restaurant for lunch.
During the meal, Lu Qian asked her how she planned to clean up the shop and whether she needed him to recommend a carpenter.
Li Mai shook her head. "My brother-in-law is a carpenter."
Lu Qian understood, and taking this opportunity, he asked Li Mai, "Was that little girl you brought with you last time your sister-in-law or your younger sister?"
“My sister-in-law.” Li Mai glanced at him.
"Oh, how old are you? Are you engaged?" Lu Qian asked casually.
Li Mai and Zhou Quan exchanged a glance and said calmly, "Lu Qian, my sister-in-law doesn't plan to marry into a wealthy family, and she's not considered married yet, so there's no need to inquire further. You two are not a good match."
Seeing that his thoughts had been exposed, Lu Qian blushed slightly, a rare occurrence for him. "Well, isn't it because the young lady is kind and lovely? Why not want her to marry into a better family? Wouldn't it be better for her to live a more comfortable life in the future?"
"Wealthy families have so many rules and so much trouble!" said Li Mai.
“My sister is naive and gets bullied.” Zhou Quan said.
"Not just anyone can be the matriarch of the Lu family."
“My sister is not good at managing the household, so give up on your idea.”
Xiao Tao doesn't like others interfering in her affairs.
"Xiao Tao snores when she sleeps, you definitely don't like that."
...
Li Mai and Zhou Quan, a married couple, took turns listing dozens of reasons why this was impossible.
Lu Qian was stunned when he heard the following.
This couple is terrifying. In order to make him give up his thoughts about Zhou Tao, they even revealed that Zhou Tao snores when she sleeps.
When the couple saw Lu Qian waving his hands repeatedly, saying he wouldn't marry her anymore, they stopped talking.
Finally, after a satisfying meal, before Zhou Li and his wife left, Li Mai said to Lu Qian earnestly, "Little Qian, you have money, looks, and a father, so you won't have to worry about finding a wife. Don't be so foolish as to think you can marry just anyone."
“Exactly. What if you happen to meet your destined one someday, and we happen to run into you too? If we accidentally let slip your past, I’m afraid you really won’t be able to find a wife in the end,” Zhou Quan continued to support his wife.
"Remember, Xiao Qian'er, you can't get married just for the sake of getting married, nor can you delay getting married because of it!"
After saying her last sentence, Li Mai and Zhou Quan walked away with smiles on their faces.
Lu Qian was left standing alone at the entrance of the restaurant, looking bewildered.
On the way back to the Li residence, the two remained silent.
"Why do you think Lu Qian would target our Xiao Tao?" Li Mai asked Zhou Quan, peeking out from behind the carriage curtain.
Zhou Quan thought for a moment, "It must be because of you."
“It seems we think the same thing.” Li Mai nodded. “But I don’t think Lu Qian is suitable for Xiao Tao. Their personalities don’t match, and their family backgrounds are even less suitable.”
Zhou Quan hummed in agreement.
Just as they turned the corner of their own residence, they saw a shadow flash and disappear behind the corner.
"You go back and unload the carriage first, I'll go take a look." As soon as Li Mai finished speaking, her figure flew out of the carriage and disappeared over the courtyard wall in a few leaps.
Behind the house in the Li residence, three people were squatting, waiting for the man to lean back and ask, "So, Liu Zi, what did you see?"
The man who had retreated said, "A carriage came this way, and I was afraid of being discovered, so I hid here first."
"Master, tell me, which family, surnamed Li, owns this house? The boss sent us to investigate, but there isn't a single business in this town with the surname Li!"
"No matter which family it is, we must find out who the owner is, or the boss will deal with us when we get back," the man addressed as the hall master said through gritted teeth.
"Shall we wait for the carriage to pass, then sneak into the roof and take a look?"
"Can!"
"Don't we have to wait until tonight?"
"No need to wait, the boss is in a hurry!" After the hall master finished answering, he realized that the voice that had just asked the question seemed to be a woman's.
The four people slowly turned around and saw a woman leaning against a tree branch behind them, dressed in a frightening red outfit.
The four people were so frightened that they screamed in their hearts, "Female ghost!"
But the next moment, the four of them knelt down with a thud. "Grandma, we didn't do anything wrong. We listen to you. Please be magnanimous and let us go. Please stop following us."
They recognized who this woman was!
