"Do you feel warmer now?" Li Mai asked.
Zhong Hui nodded, looking at his master with confusion.
Li Mai waved her hand, producing a piece of paper. Holding it up, she said to Zhong Hui, "Just like using internal force, channel the spiritual energy I guided you to use in a circle into your palm and strike this piece of paper."
Following her instructions, Zhong Hui channeled her spiritual power and struck the paper in Li Mai's hand. Instantly, the paper burst into flames as if it had encountered fire.
With a wave of his hand, Li Mai's flames on the paper disappeared, but some of the edges of the paper were already burned.
Chu Yan and Zhong Hui stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
"Master, is my spiritual power really that strong?" Zhong Hui was so shocked that his voice cracked. This was the first time he had ever lost his composure, as he was usually quiet and reserved.
"That's right, this is the power of fire-type spiritual energy. However, since you have just awakened fire-type spiritual energy, its power is negligible. You don't need to be complacent, after all, you can't control it freely yet. Therefore, unless you encounter a vicious person, you should not use your spiritual fire against them."
"Yes, Master!" Zhong Hui found his voice, which was trembling.
"You've only awakened fire-type spiritual power, but haven't learned fire-type ability techniques. You won't be able to control your spiritual power to make yourself stronger. So, after you go back today, go find your master's husband. He has fire-type abilities, so ask him to teach you two abilities. After you return to the capital, you can practice fire-type ability techniques on your own."
"Yes, thank you, Master!" Zhong Hui knelt down with a thud and kowtowed to his master.
Aside from the day he became an apprentice, this was the second time he had kowtowed to his master, a gesture of profound gratitude.
Li Mai nodded and helped him up. "Don't go astray, and don't bully ordinary people. Even if you become a spiritual cultivator, you may become the most powerful person in the capital, but remember to walk the righteous path and cultivate your Dao heart."
"Yes, Master, don't worry." As the heir apparent, he had always had status, wealth, and honor, but he had never experienced hardship. So his parents sent him and Chu Yan out to gain experience and feel the suffering of the world.
Over the past year, he has learned and met many people. He never expected that he would meet a master who was the same age as him, and that the master would change his originally uneventful life.
Originally, he thought that after returning home, he would be arranged to get married, have children, and live a mundane life. But now, he has embarked on an unusual path.
Seeing the look in his eyes, Li Mai smiled. She knew what he was thinking. She patted his shoulder and said, "Ah Hui, the path of spiritual cultivation is not easy. This means that you may encounter people more powerful than you, and that you may have more people to protect, and your responsibilities will be heavier."
“I understand. I used to think that my birth had already determined the path I would take in life. I never expected that I would have such an experience. Zhong Hui, I will remember Master’s teachings for the rest of my life.” Zhong Hui said respectfully.
Li Mai smiled. "Don't forget, we're the same age. Let's be both teacher and friend!"
Zhong Hui smiled helplessly and hummed in agreement.
Chu Yan, who was standing to one side, had been in a bad mood ever since she started talking to Zhong Hui in Limai.
He originally thought it was normal that he didn't have spiritual roots, but now Zhong Hui had suddenly taken a big step forward compared to him, while he was still standing still. He felt as if he had been doused with cold water.
So, I've become the worst one? My cousin suddenly became so amazing, while I'm still just an ordinary person?
The more he thought about it, the sadder he became. He stared blankly at Li Mai instructing Zhong Hui and giving him instructions. His heart was shattered into ice shards.
After giving Zhong Hui his instructions, Li Mai turned to look at Chu Yan. He saw that Chu Yan's eyes were red as he looked at Zhong Hui. He knew how Chu Yan felt at that moment. However, he could see from today's incident how important one's innate qualities are.
"Don't be sad. Everyone's aptitude is different. The fact that you haven't developed spiritual roots or awakened spiritual veins doesn't mean you're worse than Ah Hui. It just means your time hasn't come yet."
After saying that, she reached out and gently picked up the jade pendant hanging from his waist, concentrating on feeling it for a while, but there was still no movement.
Chu Yan also looked down at the jade pendant at her waist.
Zhong Hui also subconsciously looked down at his jade pendant. When he put his finger on it, he felt that the jade pendant was very hot.
He paused, then looked up at his master in surprise.
Li Mai turned around and saw his action, but said nothing and just nodded.
Zhong Hui immediately understood.
So, is the reason why I was able to awaken my spiritual veins because of my own jade pendant?
"You're not stupid. Cultivate well, and I'll help you." A male voice rang in Zhong Hui's mind. He was startled and looked around, but didn't see anyone.
"Stop looking. I am a phoenix, residing in your jade pendant. You are the guardian of this country that I have chosen. We have three more years of destiny. Within three years, you must become someone who can protect this country," the voice said calmly.
Zhong Hui stared blankly for a moment, then suddenly turned and walked to the edge of the cliff behind him. He picked up the jade pendant with both hands and asked in a low voice, "Should I talk to you like this?"
“You don’t need to make a sound or hold the jade pendant, or others will think you’re an idiot. Just talk to me with your mind,” Phoenix reminded him.
Zhong Hui understood.
I started communicating with him using my consciousness.
Over there, Li Mai was still trying to persuade Chu Yan.
Chu Yan finally understood what Li Mai meant. It wasn't that he was stupid; it was that everyone's constitution was different from birth. Perhaps he needed more time to develop a water-based spiritual root that could counteract fire. These were all uncertainties.
Chu Yan was comforted by her master's words and was no longer sad.
