This year's Mid-Autumn Festival was the most relaxed and complete one that Li Mai has ever had since she came into this world.
Last year, because the village was hit by a flood, they were still living on the back mountain during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The men were busy building a new village, so they were unable to properly celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
This year, the family made thorough preparations. On the night they returned, Zhao started stewing pork and free-range chicken in the afternoon. She also made chicken soup for Li Mai, adding red dates and goji berries to nourish blood and qi. She was worried that Li Mai was too busy and tired and lacked nutrition, so she wanted to give Li Mai some nourishment.
Li Mai drank half a bowl more than she wanted because the chicken soup was delicious. As a result, not long after the meal, she felt a bit bloated. She took her pulse and thought about it carefully, and it seemed that she understood something.
Fortunately, there wouldn't be any major problems. She took a walk in the courtyard after dinner and used her water-based spiritual power to suppress the burning sensation in her body.
Zhou Quan noticed something was wrong with Li Mai when he was about to take her home. After asking her questions, he learned that she had some blood turmoil that night. He was worried about Li Mai's health, so he persuaded Zhu Zhu not to take her home that night, as her mother was not feeling well.
However, Zhou Quan promised Zhuzhu that when they returned to town in a few days, he would take Zhuzhu with him. Zhuzhu was happy to agree, thinking that she would no longer have to be separated from her parents. That night, she went to sleep with her aunt and the magpie.
Zhou Quan accompanied Li Mai back home. He originally wanted to help Li Mai go into the space to cultivate and disperse her blood energy, but when they got home, they saw a man in black standing in their yard, looking up at the bright moon in the sky.
Upon seeing them return, the man in black turned to look at them.
Li Mai glanced at him silently, then walked into the house with Zhou Quan. "Come in!"
Gu Zhe silently followed him inside.
Inside the room, Zhou Quan helped Li Mai recline on the soft couch, adjusting her position until she was comfortable, before turning to look at Gu Zhe. "Your Highness, what brings you here?"
Gu Zhe looked directly at Li Mai, and when he saw that her aura was not right, he quickly went over and placed his hand on her pulse point.
"Go to your space and take a bath in the spiritual spring water to calm your turbulent blood and qi. If this continues, the baby will be in danger," Gu Zhe said, letting go of her hand and frowning.
Li Mai glanced at him indifferently, "So, all this trouble you've gone through is actually for the child in my belly?"
Gu Zhe shook his head. "Yes and no. You should go and take care of your health first. This child is probably the only one you two can have in your lives. Go and get some rest!"
Li Mai smiled coldly. She roughly understood what was going on. With a thought, she took Zhou Quan to the space and got into bed in the room they had already prepared.
Zhou Quan silently lowered the bed curtains. He had already guessed that Xiaomai wouldn't use the spiritual spring water to calm his qi and blood. After all, he could help him too, and this was a conclusion they had reached today.
Half an hour later, Li Mai and Zhou Quan reappeared in their house. Gu Zhe was still sitting quietly at the table, and there were four bamboo baskets on the ground next to the table, filled with various fruits that they did not have here.
A basket of grapes, a basket of oranges, a basket of pomegranates, and a basket of lychees.
These are all fruits from Gu Zhe's orchard in his space. He came today specifically to deliver fruit to Li Mai.
Seeing that the two had changed their clothes and that their auras were now merging, he sighed deeply in his heart. It seemed they had already guessed.
Zhou Quan settled Li Mai back down on the soft couch, covered her with a thin blanket, and then sat on the stool next to her. He looked at Gu Zhe across the table and said, "Tell us what you know. We're afraid something might happen that we can't control."
Gu Zhe was silent for a moment, then asked, "Do either of you have any memories of how the apocalypse came about?"
Zhou Quan shook his head. Strangely, he really had no memory of how the apocalypse came about.
Li Mai thought for a moment and said, "When I was a child, my grandfather told me a story about a crazy scientist who studied how to hatch eggs, which eventually led to the emergence of various mutated beasts. It was as if the world was slowly destroyed by those mutated beasts and turned into the apocalypse."
Gu Zhe looked up with a deep gaze and thought for a while. "What your grandfather told you was half true and half false. The real situation was not caused by one person."
"With the rapid development of the times, scientific progress, and the increasing number of scientific research organizations and research directions, researchers in all fields are becoming more and more advanced and also more and more obsessed."
"The consequence of the rapid pace of development is that no one or organization can control those researchers with super high intelligence. They want to develop weapons that will allow them to dominate the world, drugs that will make humans live forever, and even things that will change the human body, making humans immune to all poisons and with explosive combat and intelligence."
"In short, there's nothing they can't think of, only things you can't imagine. You can imagine what kind of mess those people, with their intelligence and ambition, will make of the world."
"That's how the apocalypse came about. People with the most powerful weapons wanted to conquer the world. They went around using weapons to conquer the world, destroying it into ruins. Earth was destroyed and turned into a broken Earth. It was no longer the happy home of mankind, no longer the blue planet it once was."
"Those who research those drugs go around using all sorts of means and excuses to find people to test them, trying to find the most effective drugs. As you can imagine, all sorts of diseases, viruses, epidemics, and infectious diseases have gradually appeared among humans, and the number of human deaths is rising every year."
"Finally, in that year, a devastating bio-war broke out. Humans were all infected with a bio-chemical gas and began to become frenzied and violent, killing those around them. Fathers and sons became enemies, and husbands and wives turned against each other with knives. In one year, the world became hell. Zombies that neither ate nor drank nor felt joy or sorrow appeared. The apocalypse finally came."
"At this point, the researchers realized they were afraid. But even if they died, they couldn't change the fact that the world had become a ruin beyond repair. The number of truly living humans was less than one ten-thousandth of the original world population."
"When you were born, the apocalypse had already lasted for six hundred years, and there were still less than a million humans living in that world. Seeing that humanity was about to become extinct, some researchers among humanity began to study how to make humans reproduce faster and how to make human physical abilities stronger so that humanity would not eventually become extinct."
"You are one of the genetically modified humans in our foundation research group. The genes used are from me and your mother. We had our own children before you. However, they both died while on a mission."
When Gu Zhe spoke of these things, there was neither sadness nor joy in his eyes, as if he were telling someone else's story.
