A few days later, after finishing her business, Nan Ling made a special trip to spend a day with Li Mai, taking care of her during her postpartum period. The two talked a lot, about business, about Yu Ze, and about Nan Yu.
Nan Yu's marriage was arranged; he was to the daughter of a minor official in the court. The official was very upright, and the girl was very sensible. Her family also had a small business, and the girl was good at business as well. She and Nan Ling got along very well.
The two were interested in each other first, and then Nanling asked Zhong Hui's mother to act as matchmaker.
With the eldest princess acting as matchmaker, the marriage was arranged. Many people envied the Nan family and that noble family, but there was nothing they could do, as the marriage was already set.
Now all that's needed is for Nan Yu to make a contribution in the court and for the emperor to bestow an official title upon him. Sooner or later, the Nan family will return to its former glory.
Nanling was also very satisfied with her sister-in-law and wanted to hold a wedding for the two of them this winter.
As for her and the head of the Yu family, they are now together, but they haven't held a banquet or announced it to the world.
Nanling did not want to marry into the Yu family, but the head of the Yu family did not make things difficult for her and took the initiative to move to the Nan residence to accompany her.
The Yu family left the family to his son, the young master Yu Yecheng. However, his son was still young, and he had to teach him how to manage the household and run a business. Yecheng also had to study, so the little guy was under a lot of pressure.
Nanling felt conflicted. On one hand, she felt sorry for Chengcheng, who was so young, being taught business by her love-struck father and given such a heavy burden. On the other hand, she was conflicted because she really didn't want to go to the Yu family and face those people.
She knew what she would face if she married into the Yu family. In fact, she was very afraid that her feelings for Yu Ze would eventually turn cold because of those trivial matters and gossip, and she would leave him quietly.
This was the outcome she least wanted to see.
After all, three people still reside in her heart: her deceased husband and her children, whom she will never forget in this lifetime.
She ultimately ended up with Yuze because she was moved. She felt how good Yuze was to her; he didn't care about anything else as long as she agreed to stand by his side.
Having experienced pain and loneliness, the two eventually got together after numbing themselves with alcohol.
Their days together were simple and happy. Yuze would be busy with his family business during the day, but would come home early in the evening to have dinner, chat, take walks, and drink tea with her and Chengcheng.
Chengcheng spends most of her time with the two of them. The three of them together are like a family. They are not very happy, but they also feel very blessed.
Chengcheng wanted to call her "Mom," but she wouldn't let her, saying she should call her Aunt Nan instead, so that she would always be her mother's child.
Chengcheng understood Aunt Nan's good intentions, so she stopped insisting on using that title, but she always treated her with great respect.
Sometimes Nanling would pick him up from school after class, and the two of them would take a car together to pick up Yuze, and the whole family would go out to eat together.
After finally getting together with Yu Ze, Nan Ling realized that this man was really love-struck. At least for her, he was very obedient to her. When she didn't want to go to the Yu family, he moved to the Nan residence with his son to accompany her. He did whatever she wanted, as long as she didn't send him back to the Yu family.
The elders of the Yu family and several of his uncles had invited him to move back home several times, but he refused. However, he would still help manage the Yu family business.
This time, he brought Chengcheng along to inspect his family's business, so that the little guy could truly see how huge the Yu family's business was.
Thinking of that child from that day, Li Mai gave her a speechless look. "You've already accepted him, so why do you still care what others think or say? After Nan Yu gets married, can you still continue to live in the Nan family mansion? Especially living with Yu Ze, do you think your sister-in-law will think?"
Nanling rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. "That's why I came back here. I want to be quiet, think things through, and also hear your opinion."
"How old is Chengcheng this year?" Li Mai asked.
"He's twelve years old. He was supposed to go to the Yu clan for three years of special training this year, but because his father abandoned his post, the clan didn't dare to take him. Once he leaves, things will get chaotic at the main branch of the Yu family. Yu Ze and his cousins are just waiting for someone to manage their business so they can take over!"
Li Mai lay back and glanced at her with a wry smile. "She's the same age as our Xiao Lei. These days, Xiao Lei doesn't care about anything except studying. It's a pity for this child."
“My opinion may not be right, just listen to it. In my opinion, you should not only have a grand wedding with Yuze, but also make it known to everyone, so that those who gossip about you behind your back can see how happy you are!”
Nan Ling's lips twitched. "Am I just showing off in a high-profile way? Am I afraid that fewer people will criticize me?"
"No, once you truly become Madam Yu, you'll realize how many people envy you and want your position."
“I know that. There are many people who want to arrange marriages for him. Especially after they know that he is close to me, and that he is willing to move on from his ex-wife, there are quite a few people who want to arrange marriages for him.” Nan Ling pouted.
"Well, you're too close to the situation to see clearly, while I'm a clear-headed observer. Although I can't make the decision for you, in my opinion, the best solution right now is for you to marry into the Yu family through a normal marriage ceremony, become Mrs. Yu, and form a complete family with Yu Ze, thus beginning your happy journey for the rest of your life."
"Putting everything else aside, from what I've observed, Chengcheng really likes you. He lost his mother at a young age and longs for a loving mother to be his mother. Every child yearns for a complete family."
"Besides, if a man is willing to give up everything for you, why can't you face the rumors for him? Moreover, as far as I know, our Song Kingdom does not have the custom of a woman who cannot remarry after her husband's death and must remain a widow for the rest of her life."
