Chapter 42 Having done too many bad things, one is truly afraid of ghosts knocking at the door.

When they finished dinner, Li Mai noticed that her mother-in-law, father-in-law, and Zhou Lin all looked rather unwell.

But they didn't seem to have any intention of telling her and Zhou Quan about it, so she didn't ask.

After the meal, Li Mai was about to wash the dishes, but Zhou Tao insisted on doing it instead. Li Mai used this time to build a parent-child relationship with Zhu Zhu and took her out for a walk in the village to digest their food.

"Zhuzhu, did your grandma and grandpa have a fight this afternoon? I noticed they didn't seem very happy tonight." After talking for a while, Limai suddenly asked Zhuzhu.

"No, it's because Grandma was unhappy after visiting neighbors this afternoon. She and Grandpa were talking secretly in the house, and Zhuzhu overheard them," Zhuzhu whispered.

"Oh, what did they say?" Li Mai asked curiously. Could it be that the people outside were saying bad things about her or Zhou Quan?

“They say the villagers say my second uncle is no good.” Zhuzhu shook her head. She didn’t understand what “no good” meant, but it didn’t sound like an insult.

Li Mai's lips twitched. Zhou Lin hadn't even gotten married yet. Whether it was okay or not was just a matter of someone else's words.

Wait a minute, Li Mai squinted, suddenly guessing where the rumor came from and who spread it.

It must be Zhou Chun's wife, Pan Shi, right? Did she get upset at home yesterday morning and then fabricate this rumor to smear Zhou Lin?

It's really not a good thing.

Li Mai's eyes lit up with an idea, and she whispered to Zhu Zhu, "Zhu Zhu, do you know where that bad woman lives?"

"A bad woman?" Zhuzhu seemed surprised to learn who the bad woman was.

"The one who scared you to tears yesterday, whoever bullies our Zhuzhu is a bad woman," Li Mai whispered.

"Yes, Mother, are we going to bully the bad woman?" Zhuzhu asked in a low voice.

"No, we're just passing by. Mother needs to know where she lives so we can avoid her in the future," Li Mai said seriously.

One should not set a bad example in front of children, so Li Mai did not intend to do anything bad in front of Zhu Zhu.

However, she can still teach those who bully her own people a lesson by using a few tricks.

That night, after Zhou Quan fell asleep, Li Mai quietly got up, picked up a piece of paper from the table, and went out into the yard.

The moment the door closed, Zhou Quan slowly opened his eyes.

Tonight, he still slept on the kang (a heated brick bed) by the window. The square table that Li Mai had used was placed between the two of them. Because of the table, he saw that Li Mai was not comfortable sleeping there. Li Mai slept a little lower, and the table blocked his view.

Unable to see anyone, he could only close his eyes and sleep. Just as he was drifting off to sleep, he sensed that Li Mai suddenly got up and seemed to take a piece of paper from the table and leave.

Is she going to the outhouse?

If I could walk, I should be by her side right now, right?

However, after waiting for a quarter of an hour, Li Mai still hadn't returned, and Zhou Quan started to get nervous.

Did she eat something bad tonight? Why hasn't she come back yet?

Worried, Zhou Quan couldn't stay lying down any longer. He slowly propped himself up and sat up, listening intently to the sounds outside.

Half an hour later, faint footsteps were heard in the courtyard.

Zhou Quan quickly lay down, covered himself with the blanket, and pretended to be asleep, never waking up.

Li Mai quietly pushed open the door, then slowly closed it before taking off her clothes, gently getting onto the kang (heated brick bed), crawling into the quilt, yawning, and closing her eyes to drift off to sleep.

Zhou Quan slowly opened her eyes, full of curiosity. The sound of her footsteps coming back didn't seem to come from the southwest, but rather from the direction of the main gate.

Could it be that I misheard?

It's the middle of the night, so Xiaomai probably won't be going outside the gate for anything!

After a while of lost in thought, Zhou Quan gradually drifted off to sleep.

But that night, Pan and Zhou Chun didn't have such a good time falling asleep!

To be honest, these two were really a perfect match. Both of them were lustful and fond of sex, and they spent almost every night in the throes of passion.

Tonight was no different. The two of them tossed and turned for nearly an hour and a half until they were both exhausted. Then they wiped themselves down haphazardly, covered themselves with their own blankets, and prepared to go to sleep.

Pan was sleeping near the window. She was content with that and turned to face the window, preparing to close her eyes and fall asleep, when she suddenly noticed that there seemed to be two figures flying back and forth on the window.

Pan was startled and broke out in a cold sweat. She didn't dare to make a sound, so she quietly reached behind her and gently pushed Zhou Chun.

"What, still not satisfied? You've almost drained me dry." Zhou Chun, who had his back to him, turned around as he spoke, and at that moment, his eyes caught sight of two figures flying back and forth outside the window.

Immediately, Zhou Chun let out a soft "ah" in fright, pulled the blanket over herself, got up, and tried to lift the lid of the wardrobe to crawl inside.

"What are you 'huh' about? Go outside and see who's flying around in our yard!"

Pan was so frightened that she quietly moved back, trying to hide in his arms. However, no matter how she moved, she couldn't reach him. When she turned her head, she found Zhou Chun wrapped in a quilt and hiding by the back wall, trembling like a leaf.

"What have you done wrong that you're so scared?"

Pan quickly wrapped herself in the quilt and rolled around a few times, reaching the back wall. She sat down next to him, looking at the martial arts masters flying around outside the window in terror, her face turning pale with fright.

Zhou Chun had indeed acted recklessly a few times outside, but he couldn't admit it now. Instead, he scolded her in a low voice, "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm well-behaved outside. Besides, who would know I live here? Did you do something to offend someone in the village again, forcing them to hire a martial arts master to assassinate us?"

Upon hearing this, Madam Pan immediately felt guilty. She had secretly glanced at Zhou Erleng four times this month, intentionally bumped into Zhou Ju five times, and of course, exchanged glances several times.
