Chapter 60 Dad, shall we continue harvesting wheat?

Even after sharing with other families, there was still quite a lot of food in front of us.

Old Man Zhou and Madam Zhao exchanged a glance, unable to hide the smile in their eyes. This was truly a blessing from their ancestors.

“We’ll go burn paper money for our second uncle tomorrow to thank him for his blessings,” Old Man Zhou whispered to Zhao.

Madam Zhao smiled and nodded, "Okay!"

With so much money all of a sudden, it seems we can renovate our house and buy the woods behind it.

These were wishes that the couple had thought about in their hearts but dared not easily say aloud.

"Third Sister-in-law, I have these three books here. There's no one in my family who's a scholar. Do you want them? If so, I'll sell them to you," Zhou Erniu's wife asked Zhao Shi as she carried the three books she had been allocated.

Zhao was illiterate and looked at Li Mai.

Li Mai took the three books from her, looked them over, and nodded. "Three books, one hundred coins, will you sell them?"

“Okay!” One hundred coins is still money. The other party was happy, took the money handed over by Li Mai, and left happily.

Li Mai glanced at the book in her hand and smiled.

It looks like a storybook, but it actually contains some business insights.

Zhou Quan would definitely enjoy watching it.

Seeing that Li Mai had accepted her book, several other women also came over and sold their books to Li Mai.

Li Mai also accepted them, three books for one hundred coins.

After the crowd gradually dispersed, the family collapsed onto the ground, staring blankly at the pile of things.

Putting aside everything else, just the silver and beads alone amounted to over a thousand taels.

This was something they had never even dreamed of in the first half of their lives.

Both Zhao and Old Man Zhou felt a sense of unreality.

Zhuzhu didn't quite understand what it meant to suddenly become rich. She just watched curiously as a group of people came in a chaotic manner and then chaotically divided up the things she and her mother had dug up, her face full of questions.

"Mother, shall we continue to dig for medicinal herbs?" Zhuzhu asked Limai, who was in a daze.

"Dad, are we still harvesting wheat?" Zhou Lei asked his father, Zhou Laoda, with a sense of confusion.

"Let's stop cutting. Dad will go make a stack and pack these things up. Then we'll go home." Old Zhou stood up, patted his bottom, and decided to go home.

The remaining half of the wheat can be harvested tomorrow.

"I'll just put the books in my basket," Li Mai said, deciding to carry them back herself to avoid damaging them.

Old Man Zhao responded.

"I estimate I'll have to make three or four trips to carry all that silver and stones back." Old Zhou looked around at the harvested wheat and estimated that he could probably fill four stacks.

Just as the family was busy, a horse-drawn carriage came from the bottom of the hill.

The group looked on in surprise.

“Isn’t that my brother-in-law?” Zhou Lei recognized Xu Shunlai, who was driving the carriage.

Old Zhou smiled when he saw it; this son-in-law had arrived just in time.

After Xu Shun tied up the carriage and helped Zhou Xing and the other person up the hillside, he looked at the pile of things and his mouth twitched.

“Dad, we heard a commotion in the village. People were saying they found something left by our ancestors. Some said they got a share, some said they didn’t, and they were arguing about it. We were worried about you, so we came to pick you up.”

Zhou Xing was originally going to visit her parents' home happily today, but soon after she entered the village, she heard a commotion in the village.

After going out to inquire, she learned what had happened. She and Xu Shun discussed it and decided that the two of them would drive the carriage into the mountains to pick up their parents.

"You're here just in time. Put those things back into that jar, carry them to your carriage, and we'll discuss this in detail when we get back." Old Man Zhou quickly instructed his son-in-law and son to clean up the things on the ground.

Li Mai had already put all the books in her basket, and Zhu Zhu had also carried a few books with her.

"Dad, you stack the wheat first. I'll take them home and then come back to collect the wheat. We'll go back in one go." Xu Shun didn't let Old Man Zhou carry it himself; he just told him to stack it.

"Alright!" Old Master Zhou was very happy that his son-in-law was so filial.

By the time the whole family had finished unpacking and settled down to eat lunch, it was already late afternoon.

While eating, Old Man Zhou carefully explained the whole story to his daughter, son-in-law, Zhou Quan, and Zhou Tao.

The four people couldn't believe it after hearing it; it was too incredible!

Zhou Quan glanced at Li Mai silently, guessing that it was she and Zhu Zhu who had dug it out.

"So, Dad, it was actually my sister-in-law and Zhuzhu who dug it up, not my third brother?" Zhou Tao asked in a low voice.

Zhao nodded, "Yes, it's good that you know. We'll tell everyone that Xiao Lei dug it up, otherwise we're afraid it will cause trouble for your sister-in-law and Zhuzhu. But Xiao Lei is a man of our Zhou family, so people won't have any designs on him."

Everyone nodded in agreement, agreeing that this was the correct reasoning.

Li Mai glanced at Zhao Shi gratefully. She could clearly feel the thoughtfulness and care her in-laws had for her. Having such family in this unfamiliar world was truly wonderful.

“Father, now that we have some spare cash, why don’t we buy a cart? That way it will be easier to go out, and we can bring back the crops from the fields without you having to carry them. As for whether to buy an oxcart or a horse-drawn cart, that’s up to you,” Li Mai said.

Zhao nodded, "Yes, let's buy an oxcart. We don't travel far with a horse-drawn carriage, so we won't need it. Let's buy an oxcart first; it can also be used for plowing."

She had long wanted to buy an oxcart for her family. Seeing how Old Man Zhou had to carry everything grown in the fields back home bit by bit every year, she felt sorry for him.

Other families are doing well; they all have oxcarts. But his son is getting older and wants to get married, so he has to save money and hasn't been able to afford an oxcart until now.
