Chapter 63 When you can walk again, I'll take you to see...

When Li Mai returned with a basin of water, she saw Zhou Quan staring blankly at the spot where he had just put the box.

She chuckled to herself, went over and placed the basin on the kang (heated brick bed), and called to him, "You go ahead and wash, then lie down for a while. You've been sitting long enough today."

She waited to see how Zhou Quan would ask her questions.

Zhou Quan turned back to look at her and noticed the suppressed smile in her eyes. Suddenly, a possibility occurred to him: could she possibly know where the box is?

But he couldn't figure out how she did it. He thought the only possible time she could have lost something was the moment she covered her eyes.

At other times, he can sense whenever someone else appears around him.

Zhou Quan looked at her and tentatively asked, "Xiaomai, did you put the box away?"

Li Mai had already taken a cloth, wrung it out in the basin of water, and handed it to him so that he could wipe his face.

Zhou Quan paused, then had no choice but to take the towel and wipe his face first.

"You're asking about those two boxes? Aren't they over there?" Just as Zhou Quan was wiping his face with a cloth, Li Mai released the two boxes from her spatial storage with a thought and answered him with a smile.

Zhou Quan ripped off the cloth and turned around to look, only to find that the two boxes had indeed reappeared in the same spot.

He reached out and touched it in disbelief. What the hell? He had clearly seen it was gone just now. Could there be something wrong with his eyes?

Zhou Quan turned to look at Li Mai, saw the smile on her face, and smiled helplessly, "How did you do that? I almost doubted my eyes, but I'm pretty sure it was gone just now."

"This is what I mentioned before, that I have a secret place to hide these two boxes. However, that place is quite mysterious; I call it my spatial world. No one else can go there, only I can. I can put whatever I want to hide into it using my mind. Whenever I need it, I can just take it out with my mind!"

After Li Mai finished speaking, he reached out towards the two boxes, and with a thought, the two boxes disappeared from the kang (a heated brick bed).

Seeing Zhou Quan's shocked expression, she smiled and said, "Isn't it unbelievable? But ever since I opened my eyes, there has been this secret place following me. As for why I have it, I don't know."

She meant "as soon as she opened her eyes," which Zhou Quan naturally understood to mean "as soon as she opened her eyes after birth."

"Can you even get to that place?" Zhou Quan asked in surprise.

He never imagined that such strange things could happen around him.

“You can go, and I can take you. But you're not able to move around easily right now, so I can't take you. Once you can walk, I'll take you to see it for yourself.” Li Mai finished speaking, smiling at him. “Are you scared?”

Zhou Quan shook his head. "What's there to be afraid of? When we used to go out to work, we heard some older people tell us stories. Anything can happen. Willow trees can become spirits, carp can turn into people, and there are immortals who fly around on swords and brooms. Have you heard of these?"

Li Mai couldn't believe it. "Really? You've even heard of immortals flying on broomsticks?"

Zhou Quan nodded. "That's what the crazy old man who told us the story said."

Li Mai wondered if that crazy old man was also a time traveler.

"Okay, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to accept this secret, so I covered your eyes and didn't dare let you see it. I've never dared to tell anyone before, only my grandma knows." She explained shyly.

I'm sorry, Grandma, you'll have to take the blame for now!

“But you have to keep this secret for me. I’m afraid people will think I’m a monster. When Mother needs money, just tell me and I’ll get it for her,” Li Mai instructed him.

Although he could accept it, it didn't mean others could. Li Mai still didn't want to be observed and studied as a monster.

"Yes, I know!" Zhou Quan trusted Li Mai, so he naturally accepted this explanation, responded, and turned to wash his hands.

After the couple finished washing up and went to bed, Zhou Quan looked at Li Mai sleeping peacefully beside him and felt very happy. He whispered, "Goodnight, Xiao Mai!"

"Goodnight, my husband!" Li Mai replied, closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep.

...

Today, the villagers of Zhoujia Village are quite lively. Some are busy counting their silver, some are busy discussing how to spend it, some are discussing how to borrow silver from others, and a few are even hiding in the shadows plotting how to steal silver.

Starting the next day, news began to circulate in the village that someone had been burgled the night before, or that something had been stolen from someone's house. The village was now truly bustling with activity.

Those who inherited their wealth from their ancestors are all very happy these days. They are buying things they need, sending their children to school in town, and buying oxcarts and donkey carts.

Some people envy it, and some people are jealous of it.

These past few days, Old Man Zhou also went to the livestock market in town with Zhou Wuping, bought a young yellow ox, and found a car dealership to match it with a vehicle.

For the convenience of passengers, Old Man Zhou bought a vehicle with a self-loading and unloading compartment. When not in use, the compartment could be detached, turning it into a cargo truck.

This carriage is said to be a new style from the carriage company, and Old Man Zhou spent an extra two taels of silver for it, but he felt it was worth it.

Uncle Wuping admired and envied Zhou Quan's family's good fortune. He thought that Zhou Quan's wife was truly blessed. Look, his family has been having a string of good luck lately.

This is what the older generation often refers to as a "prosperous daughter-in-law."

Uncle Wuping even boldly speculated that perhaps, in less than a year, Zhou Quan might be able to stand up again!

But Uncle Wuping was also saddened, because his family had bought an oxcart and would never hire one again.
