Chapter 36 Using herbs from the spatial dimension to give Zhou Quan a foot bath

Zhou Quan quickly shook his head, "I don't know him, but I've heard of him. Master Juechen's Qianye Temple is a very popular temple, located hundreds of miles away from here, on Qianye Mountain."

“When I was about ten years old, I went to Qianye Temple with my mother once, but I never met Master Juechen in person. It is said that he used to be the abbot, but then someone else took over and he went off to travel the world,” Zhou Quan said softly.

"I see. This book is quite valuable. Keep it safe. You can read it to pass the time when you're bored. You might even find some insightful and wise sayings about life from the master!"

Zhou Quan nodded, "Yes, that's what I think too."

Li Mai didn't go to rest on the kang (heated brick bed), but went out to the kitchen and saw that Zhao had already washed the dishes and helped her heat up the water.

"Mother, I'm going to start giving Zhou Quan a herbal foot bath tonight to improve blood circulation and remove blood stasis. He needs a basin of hot water every night."

“Okay!” Zhao nodded.

Li Mai took a small basin out and came back in. The basin was half full of water, and there was a green leaf in the water.

"Mother, take this half-basin of water back to your room later. Each of you should pour a little into a teacup and share it. This is good for clearing heat and relieving internal fire, and it's also good for preventing heatstroke." Li Mai solemnly handed it to Zhao Shi and instructed, "Don't waste it."

"Great!" Zhao accepted it with a smile. It's really good to have someone in the family who knows medicine.

"Are you drinking with Xiaoquan?" Zhao asked again.

“The two of us will soak in the bathhouse by ourselves. These are for our parents, younger brother and sister, and Zhuzhu.” Li Mai waved her hand.

She grabbed another bowl and watched as Zhao left the kitchen and went back into the house. Then, she quickly went into her spatial dimension with the bowl in her hand. When she came out again, she was carrying a bowl of water in one hand and a few herbs in the other, and went back into the house.

Zhou Quan noticed that she was holding a bowl of water, and it looked familiar.

Every morning and evening for the past few days, he has been drinking half a bowl of water that Li Mai gave him, and he feels refreshed after drinking it.

Li Mai drank a few sips herself and then handed the bowl to him.

When she handed it to him, she intentionally positioned the side she had just drunk from facing him. Unexpectedly, Zhou Quan took the bowl and, whether intentionally or unintentionally, turned it halfway around and drank from the spot where he had just drunk from.

Li Mai realized she was overthinking things and quickly turned her head away, but she didn't notice Zhou Quan's ears gradually turning red and the slight smile hidden in his eyes by his long eyelashes.

He did it on purpose, and he knew that Li Mai wouldn't notice. He always felt that by doing this, it would be as if he were getting closer to her.

Li Mai moved the kang table to the ground and placed it against the edge of the kang. She then picked up the wooden basin for washing her feet, went to the kitchen to scoop out half a basin of hot water, and came back to put the herbs in to soak.

After testing the water temperature a few times and finding it suitable for soaking her feet, she beckoned to Zhou Quan, "Come here, sit on the edge of the kang (heated brick bed), and put your feet in the basin to soak."

Zhou Quan obediently listened, took off his cloth socks, and slowly moved over to sit on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

He couldn't put his legs into the foot bath by himself, so Li Mai rolled up her sleeves, squatted down, and gently helped him put his feet in.

"How is it? Is it hot? Can you feel it?" Li Mai asked.

Zhou Quan shook his head. "I don't feel anything."

He couldn't tell if the water was hot or cold, but when Li Mai's hand touched his ankle just now, he felt a burning sensation in his heart.

Li Mai would occasionally test the water temperature, and once she felt it was fine and the skin on his feet wasn't red from the heat, she took out a silver needle and said to him, "Stretch out your arm."

Zhou Quan obediently stretched out his arms, and Li Mai inserted needles into both of his arms and hands, as well as his knees and calves.

"Generally speaking, the best time to give acupuncture is in the morning, because the yang energy is strong in the morning, and it is not easy to let yin energy enter the body. Tonight I am giving you a trial acupuncture, and I dare to give you acupuncture because you are soaking in herbs, as long as it can clear your blood vessels."

"From now on, I will choose to give you acupuncture in the morning."

"Okay!" Zhou Quan responded softly, glancing at her.

It was clear that she was still a little unfamiliar with finding the acupoints when she was giving herself acupuncture, and her hands were shaking a bit when inserting the needles, but she quickly became very skilled.

I imagine she must have learned these things before, but probably didn't see many patients!

"Sit down and rest for a while!" Zhou Quan said softly to her.

"Mmm!" Li Mai responded, but instead of lying down on the kang (heated brick bed), he squatted down by the kang table, lifted one of his feet, and used his index finger to massage the acupoints on the sole of his foot with his knuckles.

Press one, then switch to another.

These are some acupoints she remembers that are related to paralysis or poor blood circulation.

Dr. Niu mentioned these acupoints today, so she thought she'd give it a try to see if they'd be effective.

Zhou Quan quietly watched Li Mai squatting down to massage his feet, feeling a warm glow in his heart.

"Why don't you go to the yard and bring back a small stool to sit on?" he asked, worried that her legs would go numb from squatting.

"It's alright, just one press. Everything will have to wait until Dr. Niu finishes his review and determines the treatment plan before I can continue. Right now, we're just testing the reaction of your acupoints." Li Mai shook her head and switched to the other foot.

Zhou Quan silently uttered an "oh".

The process usually takes about half an hour before it's over.

Li Mai made up the bed for him, let him take off his clothes and go to sleep. She went to pour water, scooped up hot water and came back. She also washed herself and poured the water into the foot bath to wash her feet.

After everything was cleaned up, she locked the door and lay down on the kang (a heated brick bed).

"Ugh, today was so tiring and exciting. Goodnight, Zhou Quan." Li Mai was a little sleepy, so she said this to Zhou Quan and closed her eyes to sleep.

Zhou Quan was still sleeping on the front kang (heated brick bed) near the window, facing Li Mai in the darkness. He whispered, "Goodnight, Xiao Mai!"

There are still three people between them now. I wonder when I'll be able to sleep next to her?

Hearing Li Mai's steady, light breathing soon after, Zhou Quan recalled what Xiao Tao had said earlier that day: that they had encountered bad people at the market, and luckily they ran away quickly, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Thinking back on it now, he still feels a lingering fear. If his leg can heal, he will definitely protect her whenever she goes out in the future.

Li Mai is stunningly beautiful; those men must have had wicked thoughts about her.

Zhou Quan slowly placed his hand on his thigh and pinched it harder, but he still couldn't feel any pain.

Feeling discouraged, Zhou Quan sighed deeply. He desperately wanted to stand up again and return to normal.

He pinned all his hopes on going to town for medical treatment three days later.

At the same time, at Zhou Chun's home.

Pan had been mistreated at Zhou Lin's house today, and after he came home and finished dinner, she kept bothering him to complain, saying that Zhou Lin's mother was ungrateful.

Zhou Chun knew that she had gone to propose to Zhou Lin about his sister-in-law again, and glanced at her, "Are you really determined to marry your sister to Zhou Lin?"
