Chapter 19 Regret
Taoli finally understood why the young lady was unwilling to go to Fuxingju.
It's embarrassing, really embarrassing.
Jiang Ran was stubborn at first and refused to let Tao Li help. As a result, he was trembling and had no idea where to start with the whole roast goose.
Tao Li forcibly pulled a goose leg down for her. Jiang Ran held the goose leg and shook it for a long time. It seemed as if his mouth and hands were fighting. He couldn't get the meat into his mouth, and instead his saliva flowed all over the floor.
There were some apprentices nearby who didn't dare look openly. They hid behind pillars, took a furtive peek, and then gathered together to whisper and laugh at her.
Jiang Ran was embarrassed and angry, his face flushed red. He threw the goose leg away and said angrily, "This is too embarrassing. I won't eat it."
Tao Li hurriedly coaxed him, tore the goose meat into pieces, mixed it with the fragrant rice, and scooped a full spoonful to feed Jiang Ran.
Jiang Ran was embarrassed at first, so he turned his head away and said with his neck stiff, "I don't want to eat."
Finally, she couldn't resist and took a bite, and then she couldn't stop.
"It smells so good. Taoli, go faster."
What does face matter? Having a full stomach is the most important thing.
Later in the feeding, Taoli was afraid that she would eat too much and become food-sick, so she deliberately tore the meat slowly and told her: "Miss, go slowly, there is still a lot. Eat slowly, don't choke."
"No, I'm exhausted from all the work. How could I possibly have indigestion? I won't have indigestion even if I eat a lot."
Jiang Ran filled her stomach until she was only half full, then she remembered that her fellow apprentices who shared the same plight as her had not eaten yet.
"Taoli, it's not good for us to eat alone like this. Why don't you call someone and go to Fuxingju to buy some roast geese."
Tao Li patted her chest and said proudly, "Don't worry, miss, it's already been booked. The guys from Fuxingju will be delivering it soon."
Sure enough, not long after, the waiter brought five food boxes, which were filled with slices of roast goose when opened.
Jiang Ran roared to the sky: "Taoli! Why is my roast goose not sliced well?!"
Tao Li's eyes dodged, "Miss, don't you always like to tear it up and eat it yourself? You say that eating meat with big mouthfuls is refreshing."
Jiang Ran was speechless and choked up. This was also the reason.
But she never thought that one day she would fall to this point, where even eating roast goose freely became a luxury.
She called out the apprentices hiding in the back and asked Taoli to share the roast goose with them.
They were all children from ordinary families, sent by their families to learn cooking skills. How could they have ever eaten such delicious roast goose?
Soon they stopped being polite and started to eat voraciously.
One of the clever children, while gnawing on the goose leg, bowed deeply to Jiang Ran, shouting, "Thank you, sister."
"Thank you, sister."
"Thank you, beautiful sister."
"Thank you, beautiful sister."
The other children followed suit and rushed to surround Jiang Ran to express their gratitude.
"You're welcome, you're welcome."
"Hey, good boy, you're welcome. Come on and eat."
Jiang Ran suddenly found the feeling of being the king of children. He waved his hand and said generously, "Don't be anxious, don't fight. From now on, if I have a bite to eat, you will have a bite too."
Unfortunately, happy times are always short-lived.
I had just finished my meal and hadn't rested for long when the scary carpenter came again.
Jiang Ran watched as the apprentices, who had just been lying on the ground in a twisted manner, suddenly got up, rushed back to their workstations, and started planing wood.
Looking at the carpenter's frightening tendon muscles and gloomy and solemn expression, Jiang Ran rolled to the front of his own wood and quickly continued planing.
She took a peek and found that everyone's wood was a different size. Hers was the largest, and the little boy on her right had the smallest wood in front of him.
The carpenter checked each one one by one and could actually tell everyone's progress. Anyone he found slacking off was slapped on the palm of his hand.
My skin is already rubbed raw, and now I’m hit on the palm of my hand. How can I survive like this?
She quickly increased her speed, endured the pain, and dug with all her strength.
The master finally checked on her. Jiang Ran's hands were numb, but she still didn't dare to stop, for fear that the ruler would fall on her head in the next second.
Fortunately, the master stayed in front of her for a while, then turned and left.
Looking at the apprentices in the yard, Jiang Ran had a terrifying guess: the different sizes of wood in front of each person might be because they arrived at different times. Perhaps everyone received the same size wood on their first day!
She made a stealthy "puff" sound, attracting the attention of the little boy on her right.
Seeing him looking over, Jiang Ran poked his head out and asked, "Little Senior Brother, when did you come to the workshop to be an apprentice?"
The little boy scratched his head shyly and replied in a low voice: "Sister, I am the first one to come."
"Is that so? Then let me ask you, besides plane wood, have you learned anything else?"
"No." The little boy shook his head, but soon his eyes lit up with joy. "But soon! In about a month, I'll have finished planing the wood, and then I can start the next lesson with Master!"
He laughed and Jiang Ran cried.
It was actually true! Doesn't this mean that she has to plane this piece of wood, which is heavier than she is, into pieces before she can learn the next step?
It will take a long time to make the bookmark!
Jiang Ran immediately wanted to quit.
Seeing that she was dejected, the little boy crouched down and moved to her side secretly, risking being beaten by his master.
"Sister, don't be discouraged. I'll teach you. Look at how I hold it."
He took his own tools and demonstrated to her on Jiang Ran's wood, and it was indeed much faster than she could plan it herself.
"Do you understand? If you use your strength like this, it will be easier and much faster."
Jiang Ran followed his example and became much more efficient.
Hope rekindled in her heart, and she looked at him expectantly, "Young Master, with my talent, how long do you think it will take me to finish planing this piece of wood?"
"That's... hard to say." The little boy didn't want to discourage her and thought for a while, "About half a year."
"Half a year?!" The plane in Jiang Ran's hand fell to the ground.
Kill her.
Half a year? This bookmark might not even be suitable as a wedding gift.
Jiang Ran regrets it so much now. Why did she talk so much at that time? She might not be free for the whole year!
Jiang Ran was depressed for a quarter of an hour, but immediately turned his grief and anger into motivation and continued to planing wood.
In order to help her, Lu Weiqing even ruined his own reputation. Although it was ultimately for Princess Le'an, she could be said to have gotten a great bargain.
Could it be that she couldn't even fulfill the only request made?
Jiang Ran gritted his teeth and persisted. He became more and more courageous as he faced more setbacks and was determined to make the wooden bookmark.
If you really can't do it, just return the 10,000 gold.
It hurts just thinking about it.
The money-loving Jiang Ran fantasized about it and immediately gathered his energy to continue working.
It's really too brave.
On the first day of working as an apprentice in a wood carving workshop, Jiang Ran's hands were swollen like dumplings.
The doctor came to see her and ordered her to rest.
Seeing this, Nanny Yue was so anxious that blisters appeared on her lips. She forced Jiang Ran to ask for three days' leave from her master.
