Chapter 41: Drunk

Chapter 41: Drunk

Jiang Ran woke up at daybreak.

When Lu Weiqing delivered the betrothal gift yesterday, he asked her to go out together today.

His reasoning was that they should take advantage of these few days to strengthen their relationship so as not to appear too distant when they get married.

Jiang Ran thought about it and it made sense. Lu Weiqing’s excuse for asking the emperor for a marriage was that he had been in love with her for a long time.

He dared to say that. If someone found out, and they didn't seem to know each other, it would be all over.

Lu Weiqing probably discovered that she liked to sleep in, so he came to pick her up at 9:00 a.m.

It was still early for the agreed time, and Jiang Ran tossed and turned and couldn't sleep, so he simply got up.

Unexpectedly, just after finishing breakfast, I heard that the wife of the Minister of Works wanted to see her.

The Shangshu's wife had no previous contact with her. Jiang Ran guessed that she came to visit because of the engagement.

Unexpectedly, she came to me wanting to buy a farm in the far suburbs.

The manor was originally under Lu Weiqing's name, and according to the betrothal gift list, it now became hers.

"I'm going to be divorced anyway, so I might as well find a good place for myself."

The Shangshu's wife's words were shocking, and Jiang Ran didn't dare to ask more questions. Fortunately, after thinking for a while, she remembered that Xu Roujia had told her this gossip.

It is rumored that the wife of the minister was born into a family of herbalists. A few years ago, the Minister of Works went to Shu to build a dam. He was washed into the river by a flood and almost died. It was this herbalist who saved him.

The Shangshu was grateful for her life-saving grace. After returning to Beijing, he knelt down and broke ten bricks, and kowtowed and broke twenty tiles, before he persuaded his family to give in and marry her as his wife.

But this Shangshu has a childhood sweetheart who has been recuperating in Jiangnan for these years. Could it be that this childhood sweetheart is coming back?

"Madam, this farm has just been transferred to my name, and I haven't figured it out yet. How about you wait for me for a few days?"

Jiang Ran didn't want to say it clearly, and she didn't want to touch Lu Weiqing's betrothal gift.

Who knows how long this marriage can last? They might get divorced soon, and it would be troublesome to deal with so much property.

"Perhaps there is another way. I already own a farm in the far suburbs. I'll have someone take you there to have a look. If you're satisfied, I can give it to you right away."

Jiang Ran knew that she was anxious to buy it. The farm was very unique and the people who took care of it were diligent. She thought the Shangshu's wife would like it.

Sure enough, when the lady heard there was another option, she thanked Jiang Ran and happily went to see it with the manager.

After dealing with this matter, Lu Weiqing had been waiting in the carriage for a while.

Jiang Ran tidied up his appearance and trotted out the door.

"Have you been waiting for a long time?"

Seeing her coming, Lu Weiqing put down the book in his hand and said lightly: "Just arrived."

Jiang Ran gradually got used to sitting opposite him. He got into the car swiftly, picked up the hot water bottle, and picked up a piece of candy cake.

She approved of Lu Weiqing's taste in choosing snacks and was very satisfied with the food after a short while.

The place they were going to this time was quite far, and before an hour had even arrived, Jiang Ran had already dozed off after having eaten and drunk his fill.

"arrive."

Finally they arrived. Lu Weiqing told her to wrap her cloak tightly before getting off the car.

When Jiang Ran got out of the car, he saw that it was the farm that the Shangshu's wife wanted to buy.

The scenery is really nice. Looking up, you can see a long and narrow river flowing by.

Seeing them arrive, someone handed them a fishing rod and a wooden bucket.

"Last time I saw that you really liked fishing, so I'll take you to try fishing in the cold river." Lu Weiqing tightened the fur collar around her neck and ordered someone to light a charcoal brazier on the shore to keep her warm.

When I got closer, I found that the river was frozen with several holes in it. I had to sit by the holes to fish.

Jiang Ran covered his red nose with his hands. It was winter, and it was hard for him to come up with such a way to enhance their relationship.

She tried to step on the ice, but her foot retreated. Last time we went boating, three people fell off the ice. If we fell on this ice, we wouldn't be so lucky.

Seeing that she was scared, Lu Weiqing took the initiative to find a hole, moved a bench and sat down, and soon he caught a silver white fish.

Seeing that he was fine, Jiang Ran felt itchy and started fishing as well.

What's more, the fishing here is very good. In just a quarter of an hour, they caught six or seven fish.

"Let's go back. It's too cold. My throat will hurt again soon."

Lu Weiqing urged her several times, but Jiang Ran didn't move. Finally, she put away her fishing rod and walked back obediently.

The village was bustling with activity. Everyone had been busy preparing for the meal, some making glutinous rice cakes, some brewing new wine, some cooking soup, and everyone's face was filled with smiles.

Many kinds of aromas mixed together make your ginger cravings rise.

She sat by the charcoal brazier for a long time, and finally the meal started. The small fish she had caught were placed in the middle of the table, becoming a main dish.

Jiang Ran was so eager to taste it that his eyebrows almost dropped. Although the dishes didn't look as good as those in the restaurant, they were authentic, fresh and delicious.

"Eat slowly and try this."

Lu Weiqing poured her a glass of rice wine. Jiang Ran leaned over and smelled the wine, then said consciously, "I can't drink it. I'm not a good drinker."

She couldn't hold her liquor well, and would go berserk after just three drinks. Her drinking habits were also quite poor, and even Jiang Huan and Jiang Chuan combined couldn't control her.

Jiang Ran swallowed his saliva. Although he wanted to drink, he decided not to embarrass himself in front of Lu Weiqing.

"This is osmanthus rice wine, not intoxicating."

"Traditional Suzhou families drink winter wine during the winter solstice. It's usually brewed with glutinous rice and sweet-scented osmanthus flowers."

It turns out today is the Winter Solstice, so it’s okay to have a drink during the festival.

Jiang Ran found an excuse for himself, picked it up and took a big sip.

“Delicious!”

Her eyes lit up, and after drinking two sips, she asked for more wine. Before she knew it, she had gulped down half a pot.

When leaving Zhuangzi, Jiang Ran was a little shaky when walking.

"Aran, how can you get drunk even with rice wine?" Lu Weiqing was helpless. He really didn't expect that her alcohol tolerance was so poor.

How could Jiang Ran let him look down on her? She waved her hand and pushed him away, "I'm not drunk! Who said I was drunk? I can still walk in a straight line. If you don't believe me, just look."

She put all her strength into it, stumbling forward, stumbling from side to side, but her speed was quite fast.

Lu Weiqing failed to keep up, and Jiang Ran almost performed a somersault and a diving from the ridge of the field.

He simply picked her up and carried her sideways, walking towards the carriage.

Jiang Ran was drowsy. Looking at the chest that was getting closer and closer to her, she muttered, "I like this farm and I won't sell it."

"Who wants to buy this farm?"

"Madam Shangshu. Her husband has fallen in love with someone else and wants to divorce her, so she wants to move out."

Lu Weiqing's eyes darkened, and he said in a gentle and persuasive manner, "Then why don't you sell it?"

"I'm afraid that you will divorce me and ask me to give you the farm as compensation and give it as a betrothal gift to someone else." Jiang Ran was drunk and spoke without restraint, completely unaware of what he said.

Lu Weiqing really didn't know what kind of mess this little girl was thinking about every day.

He had finally married her, and he held her so tightly in his hands that he was afraid she would fall. How could he possibly divorce her?

She was really like a kitten, sometimes making him happy, and sometimes making him feel sore, itchy and painful inside. He really didn't know what to do with her.

Lu Weiqing pinched the tip of her nose gently as if to punish her.

Jiang Ran opened his mouth and took two breaths, then suddenly raised his chin and bit his tiger's mouth, muttering, "Taoli, stop it."

Lu Weiqing let her bite it, and a secret sense of pleasure rose in his heart.

Fortunately, she wasn't calling out to anyone else.

Otherwise, he was afraid he would go crazy.
