Chapter 18: Learning Skills
Lu Weiqing lifted the car curtain and was surprised to find Jiang Ran waiting for him in the car, his nose red from the cold.
"Why are you waiting out here in the wind? Aren't you cold?"
Jiang Ran sniffed and said stubbornly, "It's not cold."
She opened her mouth and took a breath of cold air, and before she could finish her words, she sneezed twice.
Lu Weiqing did not expose the truth and told Eleven to set off quickly.
Seeing that he left the palace safely, Jiang Ran's last worry disappeared and she began to share it with him excitedly.
Not long after she came out, the clerk in the bookstore came to report that Fu Xueke and the shopkeeper had been released.
There was a group of people making trouble in the shop, saying they had been cheated and demanding their money back.
The Jinwu Guards also helped them maintain order and proved that the owner of the bookstore was Prime Minister Lu. Anyone who dared to spread rumors again would be thrown into the imperial prison.
All of a sudden, those who wanted a refund were confused. Not only did they not want their money back, they also bought a lot of storybooks and clamored to support Lord Lu, almost clearing out all the books in the bookstore.
"Yeah." Lu Weiqing responded casually.
He produced a heater from somewhere, handed it to her, and wrapped her in a cloak.
Jiang Ran's whole body was buried in the warm fur, with only his eyes showing, rolling around.
"Brother Lu, why are you acting like you already know everything? You're not surprised at all?"
Lu Weiqing then curled his lips slightly, "I don't know. Thank you, A Ran, for being the first to share it with me."
Jiang Ran pulled up his cloak awkwardly, "Of course I do. Of course I do. Thanks to Brother Lu for helping me, otherwise this matter wouldn't have been resolved so quickly."
"Brother Lu, the emperor didn't blame you, did he?"
"No, Your Majesty is very clear-sighted. Ah Ran, don't worry."
Jiang Ran nodded and shrank back further, leaving only the top of his head exposed.
No matter how warmly she wrapped herself, she still felt a chill on her back, as if someone was staring at her.
Just talking made the princess jealous. If she knew that she had ridden in Lord Lu's carriage and that he called her "A Ran", Princess Le An would have torn her into pieces.
Jiang Ran was torn between his conscience and his desires, and was extremely conflicted.
She didn't dare to accept the title, nor did she dare to tell Lu Weiqing that calling her Miss Jiang directly would be so unfamiliar, as if she had just asked for help and then went to destroy the bridge.
Maybe it was because he had been tense for too long, or maybe it was because the citrus scent in the car was too hypnotic, Jiang Ran thought for a while and fell asleep unknowingly.
It was not until dark that she slowly woke up.
"Ms. Jiang, we're here." Lu Weiqing saw that she was embarrassed and quietly changed his address.
Jiang Ran didn't have time to think about it. He stood up, lifted the car curtain to look at the sky, and was embarrassed.
"Oh my god, why did I fall asleep? Did I sleep for a long time? Why didn't Brother Lu wake me up?"
Lu Weiqing waved his hand and said calmly: "It's only a quarter of an hour. It's just that the weather is bad today, and it seems like it's getting late."
Eleven outside the car: A quarter of an hour?! I'm freezing, how dare you look me in the eye and say that?
Okay, you dare, but I don’t.
I was wrong and couldn't afford to offend him. You were right, it was just a quarter of an hour, almost as long as an hour and a half.
As soon as Jiang Ran returned home, Nanny Yue told her that Prime Minister Lu had sent a box earlier. When she opened it, she was almost blinded by the golden light.
"Ten thousand gold! As expected of the next head of the Gusu Lu family, he can easily come up with ten thousand gold."
She quickly ordered that the bookstore's title deed be found and sent to Lu Weiqing's residence.
After finishing his work, Jiang Ran breathed a sigh of relief. While feeling relieved, he was also annoyed that he owed more and more favors.
She rolled onto the bed, thinking to herself that she had to start making bookmarks as soon as possible.
Jiang Ran closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
The red silk drags on the ground and the lights are as bright as day.
On an auspicious day, the emperor's favorite princess, Princess Le'an, was born, and the streets were crowded with people who came to watch the excitement.
The atmosphere in the bridal chamber was eerie. The princess was wearing a wedding dress, with black hair hanging down to the ground and skin as white as snow. She stood barefoot in front of her with a red-hot iron in her hand.
"Tell me! How much gold has my husband spent on you?"
"You vixen, return the gold to me now, or I'll ruin your reputation."
Jiang Ran struggled a bit, but his hands and feet were tied too tightly and his mouth was stuffed with cloth, so he could only make whimpering sounds.
She shook her head desperately, wanting the princess to find Lu Weiqing to confirm, but she found that he was also tied up, and tied together with her.
It’s over!
Jiang Ran was so scared that he broke out in a cold sweat and woke up screaming.
When she realized she was dreaming, her heart, which was about to jump out of her throat, finally calmed down.
"Miss, are you having a nightmare?" Taoli asked while rubbing her eyes.
Jiang Ran said guiltily, "It's okay. Maybe the quilt is too tight. Go to sleep."
Taoli agreed and checked the window again. When she went out, she couldn't help but smile.
The young lady must have dreamed of Lord Lu. Just now, she heard the young lady calling his name. It seems that there is something going on between the young lady and Lord Lu!
Jiang Ran didn’t know if there was any chance of success. She only knew that if she continued studying, she would be exhausted to death.
I don’t know where the abbot found this master for her, he is so ruthless.
She hadn't slept well last night, and she felt that she was very diligent and motivated as she could get to the wood carving workshop so early in the morning.
As a result, the master scolded her for being lazy and ordered her to appear before him before dawn the next day.
Not only did he scold her, he also threw a piece of wood that was heavier than her and asked her to learn how to plane the wood, saying that she should practice the basic skills first.
She suggested that she wanted to learn how to carve bookmarks directly, but was ridiculed, "Miss, you are delicate and frail. If you don't want to learn, you can leave."
But she was not convinced. Could planing wood be more tiring than practicing martial arts?
She picked up the tool and started to plan. She planed, planed, planed, planed...
She wants to give this dead wood some color!
It’s tiring, really tiring. Planing wood is more tiring than practicing martial arts.
Jiang Ran covered his worn hands with tears in his eyes.
"Miss, take a break. Your hands are broken, you can't do this." Taoli felt distressed and kept wiping her tears, wishing she could plane the wood for the young lady.
In fact, Jiang Ran wanted to yell, "What a crap! I quit."
But she didn't dare give up.
She must deliver the bookmark before the princess and Lord Lu get married, then draw a clear line and save her beautiful little face.
Jiang Ran recalled the scene in his dream, shuddered, wrapped the wound with gauze and continued to planing.
"Wow, miss, let's eat and take a break, okay?" Taoli saw that the lady's hands were shaking and couldn't help but persuade her.
Jiang Ran's stomach growled, he was indeed hungry.
She raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead, swallowed, and said, "Roast goose from Fuxingju."
"Hey, I haven't had the roast goose from Fuxingju for over a month! Taoli is craving it, let's go."
When Tao Li heard her say that she wanted to eat roast goose, she thought she had been persuaded, so she wiped away her tears and was about to take Jiang Ran's arm and walk out.
Jiang Ran took a step aside, changed direction and started planing the wood again.
"I won't go. Taoli, you go eat. Bring me back a roast goose."
Taoli had no choice but to agree and walked out quickly.
As I walked, I thought, it seems that the young lady is really deeply in love with Lord Lu. Even though it is so hard and tiring, she has never thought of giving up.
She was so moved that she began to wipe away her tears again, and secretly made up her mind that she must grab the biggest and best roast goose and bring it back to the young lady.
