Chapter 161 The Princess Consort is knowledgeable and reasonable; how could he possibly say such a thing?

Hua Ling really went all out; Su Wenyuan was screaming and howling in her room.

"Do you even know how to do it?" Su Wenyuan was sweating profusely from the pain, and her voice was almost hoarse from shouting.

Hua Ling was also covered in sweat, her ears were about to go deaf from his shouting.

“Which of these guards in the manor haven’t I treated? They were all more seriously injured than you, and they didn’t cry like this. You’re just being delicate,” Hua Ling complained.

Su Wenyuan said anxiously, "Isn't that obvious? They're always fighting! If I fall, I'll scream for days. How can it be the same? They've instilled in you a habit of not knowing your own strength. Would it kill you to be gentle?"

A fight was about to break out in the room, so Sheng Jingyu quickly went in to break it up.

"See that? Full of energy, full of vitality, completely fine." Hua Ling stood to the side, panting heavily, exhausted.

Su Wenyuan kept shouting and moving around, and there was no one left in the room. Hua Ling couldn't hold her down at all.

Sheng Jingyu asked, "How long will it take to get better?"

"If she cooperates, it'll only take a few days, nothing will be delayed. Her wound is so shallow, don't worry unnecessarily." After Hua Ling finished speaking, she suddenly felt that something was not quite right.

"You're not pretending anymore?"

Sheng Jingyu said impatiently, "Let's get down to business first."

Hua Ling rolled her eyes: "What's the big deal? It's just a small injury. Judging from how loudly she's screaming, let's see what medicine to use. Use my new medicine, and new flesh will grow back in two days..."

"No need!" Su Wenyuan yelled. "If it doesn't hurt, I'll move to your room and call you. If it hurts a little, I'll just move in."

Hua Ling's new medicine is the one used on Wang Shi; Su Wenyuan couldn't possibly suffer that kind of pain.

Hua Ling pouted and said, "Fine, I'll go find the anesthetic."

Before leaving, he also dragged Sheng Jingyu away, saying he had something to ask her.

He and Sheng Jingyu had known each other for over a decade, and most of what they had done and said before was just a joke.

When it comes to serious matters, he still asks a few more questions.

The two were in the courtyard, and before Hua Ling had even asked anything, Sheng Jingyu began to feel guilty.

His eyes darted around, looking at the sky and the ground but not at him; his unease was written all over his face.

"What are you doing?" Hua Ling asked, puzzled. "Her injury doesn't look like it was inflicted by someone skilled in archery. Ye Shan and Meng Qi were with her too, how did she get injured?"

Hua Ling chatted and laughed in front of Su Wenyuan, but after they came out, she couldn't help but start to doubt her intentions.

Sheng Jingyu muttered, "So he just got injured like that."

He left Ye Shan behind, sent Meng Qi away, and watched the arrows at Jin Kouhe without shouting or moving.

"How did it get injured like that?" Hua Ling was devastated. He really couldn't communicate normally with Sheng Jingyu right now.

Sheng Jingyu's mind is full of Su Wenyuan. Doesn't he have anything serious to do?

"Just say what you want to say," Sheng Jingyu said, too lazy to beat around the bush.

Hua Ling said bluntly, "She deliberately injured herself. Can't you tell? The wound is very shallow; she won't die."

Seeing that he was still being tactful, Sheng Jingyu couldn't help but laugh and say, "Why don't you just say it directly, that she wanted to see if I was really blind?"

Seeing that he knew everything, Hua Ling stopped hiding anything.

"The Empress poisoned you for the sake of her son. The Emperor was wary of you and specially arranged for several quack doctors to treat you. Both of them thought they were responsible for your blindness, and they also thought the other was sincere towards you."

"You've maintained this balance for years. If this secret is exposed now, the Emperor, the Empress, Consort Wan, their son, and that faction in the court will all come after you."

Hua Ling only mentioned the reasons and consequences, without mentioning Su Wenyuan at all, but the meaning she was expressing was distrust of Su Wenyuan.

He previously said that Sheng Jingyu was bewitched by Su Wenyuan, but that was mostly a joke.

Sheng Jingyu said he would no longer pretend to be blind, but he didn't believe it in his heart.

But now that the facts are clear, Hua Ling has to be cautious, fearing that Sheng Jingyu might not be sober.

It was rare to see him so serious, so Sheng Jingyu joked, "When I told you before, you didn't say this much."

"Do I even need to say it?" Hua Ling was so anxious she almost jumped up.

Seeing that he was genuinely anxious, Sheng Jingyu stopped joking and said seriously, "She did it on purpose, but not to test me. First, it was for her own sake, and second, it was because of... the rumors outside."

“I can explain, but I can’t explain to each and every one of the people. However, once the news of Jin Kouhe’s assassination of Princess Chen spreads, it will silence the people’s suspicions.”

Hua Ling raised an eyebrow in surprise, looked around the room, then at Sheng Jingyu, and asked skeptically, "Is she really that good?"

Sheng Jingyu countered, "If it were you, could you do it?"

"Don't even think about it." Hua Ling refused without hesitation. "You caused this trouble yourself, so deal with it. What does it have to do with me?"

“Then she’s better than you.” Sheng Jingyu turned to leave.

Hua Ling complained from behind, "You heartless bastard, I've said everything I needed to say. If you're in trouble, I'll be the first to run away."

"I wonder who's heartless," Sheng Jingyu said.

They always talk like that; they start being inappropriate after only a couple of sentences.

Sheng Jingyu quietly returned to the room; Su Wenyuan was already asleep.

His brows were furrowed and his face was pale; he must be in great pain.

Sheng Jingyu didn't disturb her anymore and went to find Hua Ling again, wanting to change the oral medicine to an external application so as not to wake Su Wenyuan again.

While grinding the medicine, Hua Ling said, "When your princess found out you were pretending to be blind, she didn't react at all?"

"A little surprised, but not much, that's all." Sheng Jingyu smiled slightly, a huge weight lifted from his heart.

Hua Ling snorted coldly: "She hasn't realized what's happening yet; she's only focused on the pain."

“Even if she realizes it, nothing will happen. She said she’s not angry.” Sheng Jingyu’s tone carried a hint of pride. “She understands my difficulties and doesn’t care whether I trust her or not.”

"Knowledgeable, reasonable, and understanding—they were right back then." Sheng Jingyu smiled, as if afraid others wouldn't see his pride.

Hua Ling stopped what she was doing, got up and took a bottle of medicine from the shelf, handed it to Sheng Jingyu and said, "I think your eyes are not fully recovered and your mind is not clear. Take some medicine."

He's so knowledgeable, reasonable, and understanding; how could he possibly say that?

What's most frightening is that he said it in a completely serious manner, as if he wasn't joking at all.

"You can only say that to me; people will laugh you to death if you go outside," Hua Ling said with obvious disdain.

Sheng Jingyu said dismissively, "They dare not laugh."

His outburst at Wanlin Weichang today has already left a bad impression on everyone.

"You're quite proud! Don't you think about the trouble that will follow? Do you think Qikong Kingdom will let this go?" Hua Ling said anxiously.

He used to be carefree and never uttered a serious word.

Now, forced by Sheng Jingyu, they've started to focus on serious matters.

"I'm afraid they won't cause trouble!" Sheng Jingyu didn't care. "The more trouble they cause, the safer I will be. After all, no one will target a prince who can't inherit the throne at this time. If I die, who will solve the problem?"
