Chapter 137 Can a blind man really not be an emperor?

“Some people don’t know this,” Sheng Jingyu said with a smile, looking in the direction Su Wenyuan had left.

Ye Shan suddenly realized, but remained noncommittal.

Sheng Jingyu lied to Su Wenyuan. Even if she was happy about it, that's something for later. She might be very angry when she first found out.

"Your Highness, since you think the Princess will be happy about this, why not tell her and make her happy?" Ye Shan asked tactlessly.

Sheng Jingyu's smile faded, and he glanced at her, saying, "Don't play with your brother too much."

How could he not know Ye Shan's concerns?

If he wasn't afraid of upsetting Su Wenyuan, he would have said it long ago; there was no need to wait until now.

"No matter what, she'll definitely be happy. So let her do whatever she wants. Just keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't get into a fight!"

Sheng Jingyu was right; a fight was about to break out over there.

However, it wasn't the imperial physician and Su Wenyuan, but Eunuch Hu.

Eunuch Hu spent the whole day trying to persuade the imperial physicians, feeling resentful. He thought that his mission was over once he arrived at Prince Chen's residence, but with Su Wenyuan blocking his way, the physicians couldn't see Sheng Jingyu, let alone take her pulse or expose her feigned illness.

"I just have a headache, so bad that I can't even eat. Luckily, the imperial physicians came, but we've already seen two, and there's still no result." Su Wenyuan smiled and spoke in a light tone, which made the imperial physicians break out in a cold sweat.

Eunuch Hu said, "Those who can enter the palace to become imperial physicians must have superb medical skills. If several imperial physicians cannot find the cause, Your Highness, do you think... you might have made a mistake?"

I gently reminded her to stop pretending.

The imperial physicians have arrived; what good is a forced appearance now?

Su Wenyuan slammed her hand on the table, and all the imperial physicians knelt down in a panic.

Their willingness to kneel so readily startled Su Wenyuan.

"What do you mean by this, Eunuch Hu? The imperial physician can't see the problem, so you're blaming me?"

Eunuch Hu stood there unhappily and said, "How could this servant blame the Princess Consort? It's just that His Majesty ordered them to come and take the Prince's pulse. Even if the Princess Consort is not feeling well, they should still take the Prince's pulse first before we talk about anything else."

If this little thing drags on for a day and I still haven't gotten it right, I'm sure I'll get a scolding.

Su Wenyuan smiled slightly and said sarcastically, "What you say makes sense, Eunuch. Go and invite the Prince out. Don't bother with the meal."

When she came out, she said that Sheng Jingyu hadn't finished eating, so she asked the imperial physician to take her pulse first. It wasn't that Su Wenyuan deliberately stopped her.

Eunuch Hu was furious, and as he spoke, he started to say that he was preventing the prince from eating.

"No rush!" Eunuch Hu quickly stopped him, no longer in a hurry.

If he's not in a hurry, then Su Wenyuan can continue taking his pulse.

The imperial physicians stepped forward one by one, but none of them could see that Su Wenyuan's face was ashen, which made the physicians tremble with fear.

"If you gentlemen can't even cure my headache, then don't even think about taking the Prince's pulse. Eunuch Hu, I know the Emperor's intentions, but back then the Prince was harmed by quack doctors, and he was already in a bad mood when he saw the imperial physicians."

"If he sees such a group again, his condition may worsen."

When Eunuch Hu saw her blatantly lying, he was so angry that his eyebrows almost stood on end.

"Princess Consort Chen, several imperial physicians have been consulted about your headache, but none of them could diagnose it. Aren't you afraid that others will misunderstand and think you're doing it on purpose?"

It's practically saying outright that the Emperor suspects you're faking illness.

Su Wenyuan smiled and said, "I can't control what others think, but I have the final say in what I say. Similarly, it's the same if I change people."

After saying this, she waved her hand, signaling the imperial physicians to leave first, leaving only Eunuch Hu behind.

With only Eunuch Hu remaining, Su Wenyuan's attitude changed somewhat.

"Why are you angry again, Father-in-law? Whether I am real or fake, whether the prince is real or fake, is not something a few imperial physicians can decide. Right now, I just have a headache, what can you do about it?"

"Anyway, I'm the one who stopped them today, so I'll take the responsibility. It's better than the prince coming out and accusing them of being quacks. If it really comes to that, their lives might be in danger."

“Now I’ll take responsibility for everything, and you’ve given me an explanation!” Su Wenyuan said, handing over the silver notes as she spoke.

When Eunuch Hu saw the stack of silver notes, his brows instantly relaxed and he beamed with joy.

If that's the case, then Eunuch Hu has nothing to complain about.

However, for the sake of the money, he still gave an extra reminder.

"By doing this, Your Highness, you're taking all the blame, but the Emperor won't be happy. You should also consider the consequences for your own life."

With more money given, Eunuch Hu's reminders became much more direct.

Even if Sheng Jingyu angers the Emperor, the Emperor won't do anything to him, at least not endanger his life.

How could Su Wenyuan do that? If the Emperor were to become displeased, she could lose her life.

"I know, thank you, Father-in-law. Please go back and say whatever you need to say." Su Wenyuan had a faint smile on her face, seemingly indifferent.

She wasn't reckless; she just wasn't trying to curry favor with the emperor.

She'd already walked this path; it was useless.

She is currently only trying her best to protect Sheng Jingyu without completely angering the Emperor.

The Emperor certainly won't kill her because of what happened today, but he will be angry and dissatisfied with her.

She will only be in danger when the discontent accumulates to a certain level; it hasn't reached that point yet.

Sheng Jingyu was ready to go to the front hall, but when Ye Shan returned, she told him that Eunuch Hu had already left with the imperial physician.

"You're leaving already?"

Ye Shan nodded and said, "The princess said they were quacks and chased them all away. As for Eunuch Hu, we first provoked him, then coaxed him with money, and he left too. He seemed quite happy."

"That's great." Sheng Jingyu didn't have to pretend anymore; he could just say it was very convenient.

He was relieved, but the Emperor was in trouble, smashing several teacups.
