Chapter 260 What's the point of inviting an ancestor back to the mansion?

If the two had experienced the same thing, Su Wenyuan certainly wouldn't think that way.

Su Lin'er had been pampered since she was a child, and Su Yuan couldn't bear to blame her no matter how big a mistake she made, in order to take care of her feelings.

Su Yuan gave most of his rare sincerity to Su Lin'er.

How desperate one must feel to have their sincerity so utterly trampled upon.

But Su Wenyuan was just talking about it and expressing her feelings. If you asked her what she thought about it, she would of course applaud and cheer.

"Let's go join the fun." Su Wenyuan casually switched to an ugly-looking hand warmer.

Su Lin'er didn't expect to run into Su Wenyuan here. She thought she had successfully avoided her and that the two of them would not meet.

Su Yuan struggled to turn around, but his current physical condition prevented him from doing so.

Su Wenyuan walked up to Su Lin'er, who spoke first: "Sister, Father is seriously ill, why didn't you come to see him?"

"I dare not go, for fear of laughing out loud and infuriating people," Su Wenyuan said frankly.

Su Lin'er observed the expressions of the people around her and found that, contrary to her expectations, there were no crowds criticizing Su Wenyuan for being unfilial.

Most people were more in a spectator's mood; they knew Su Wenyuan was like this, so they weren't surprised by her answer.

"Father still needs to take his medicine, so we'll head back now. If possible, we hope you'll go back and visit him," Su Lin'er said, sounding aggrieved.

Su Wenyuan nodded slightly, and Su Lin'er continued walking forward.

Just as Su Yuan and Su Wenyuan brushed past each other, Su Wenyuan called out to them.

Su Yuan looked at Su Wenyuan in horror, wondering what she was going to do.

Su Wenyuan smiled slightly, placed the hand warmer in his hands, took off her own cloak, covered Su Yuan with it, and carefully tucked it in.

Following her movements, everyone noticed that Su Yuan's hands were red from the cold and were trembling.

The accusing gazes that Su Lin'er had imagined appeared, but they were all directed at her.

Su Wenyuan has a grudge against the Su family and cannot bear to see Su Yuan doing well. She makes no attempt to hide her hatred and is willing to accept the infamy of being unfilial.

Even such an unfilial daughter could notice that Su Yuan was shivering from the cold.

Su Lin'er always claims to be filial, so why is she taking Su Yuan on a parade through the streets?

They didn't give him a hand warmer or anything to cover him with, leaving him to stand in the cold wind.

Why wouldn't they let him into the Su family's carriage when it was right behind him?

After Su Wenyuan finished doing all this, she lowered her head and whispered in Su Yuan's ear, "You know that Wang Shi and Su Lin'er withheld my charcoal back then. Now, guess if Su Lin'er will withhold yours?"

"In such a cold winter, you can't even keep warm in the most basic way. How are you going to get through it? Every night from now on, you need to think carefully about what you did wrong."

"The cloak and hand warmer aren't because I'm worried you'll be cold; I'm just trying to show everyone that Su Lin'er isn't that filial. Look, I can handle your daughter like it's nothing."

If there hadn't been so many people around, Su Wenyuan could have said even more hurtful things.

Su Yuan's fear turned into regret and tears, her body convulsing as she cried.

Everyone thought he was moved by Su Wenyuan, and they all whispered and cursed Su Lin'er for being heartless.

"Let's go," Su Wenyuan instructed.

Although the servants in the manor didn't listen to Su Lin'er much, they were very willing to listen to Su Wenyuan.

He left without a second thought, completely disregarding Su Lin'er's feelings and whether she had anything else to say.

Su Lin'er's face turned ashen, her anger finding no outlet.

"Get on the carriage!" Su Lin'er glared and shouted sternly.

She had to feel ashamed before she would slink back to the carriage.

Su Yuan breathed a sigh of relief and was somewhat grateful to Su Wenyuan.

The Emperor specifically ordered someone to keep an eye on Su Lin'er to see how she and her father returned home.

Upon learning that he would be returning home in a parade through the streets, the emperor's feelings were somewhat complicated.

He thought, why not arrange for someone from the palace to take care of Su Yuan?

His daughter is really not a good person.

Later, I heard that although Su Wenyuan did not let Su Yuan go back, she made a cloak for Su Yuan, which touched me a little and made me feel even more disgusted with Su Lin'er.

"Your Majesty, Princess Consort Chen has arrived."

The Emperor composed himself, took a deep breath, and said, "Let her in."

Having met Su Lin'er, the Emperor now finds Su Wenyuan much more pleasing to the eye.

"We're a little late. Your father and Su Lin'er just left."

Su Wenyuan smiled and said, "It's not too late. I'm not here to see them. I'm here to pay my respects to my father."

"That's reassuring to hear," the Emperor said, in high spirits. "How is Jingyu's health?"

He discovered that when Su Wenyuan was willing to coax people, her words were truly sweet.

No wonder Sheng Jingyu likes her; who wouldn't like having someone like that around to comfort them?

The two chatted casually for a while and seemed to get along quite well.

If it weren't for Su Lin'er's matter, the Emperor would have sent Su Wenyuan back by now.

But at this point, he had to say something that would spoil the mood.

"I originally asked you to come over tonight, but I accidentally brought it up earlier. You know what I'm going to say to you. It's not that I'm trying to cause you trouble, it's that your sister has impure thoughts."

"If there is any vacant space in the manor, it is not difficult to support someone. Even if you don't want to see her, you can lock her in a small courtyard and keep her locked up until she dies."

The Emperor's opinion was that she should agree and put an end to this matter as soon as possible.

Otherwise, he couldn't stand Su Lin'er's endless nagging.

Su Wenyuan sneered, "Once they're in, I'm afraid it won't be up to me to decide."

She could do that, but Su Yuan is not dead yet, and the Empress is watching from behind. Would she let Su Lin'er be trapped and killed?

With the Empress's help, it might not be long before Su Lin'er becomes a concubine.

In the future, it is possible that she will become a princess.

"How could a concubine possibly rebel?" The Emperor frowned. "Su Lin'er told me that she knows nothing, can't manage the affairs of the manor, and can't handle the farms and shops outside the manor."

"She can't even manage the servants in the mansion. She said she wants you to help manage the Su mansion, and everything in the Su mansion will be yours in the future."

Su Lin'er considered herself useless, and now Su Wenyuan was saying that she couldn't manage a concubine. The Emperor really didn't like to hear such things.

If one or two people say they can't do it, then who can? Should we let the emperor manage all those trivial matters?

Su Wenyuan refused, saying, "No way. I'm not helping out; I'm paying out of my own pocket to subsidize it, and I'd have to invite a 'goddess' back home. What's in it for me?"

The Emperor slapped his thigh in regret, wishing he had let Su Lin'er and Su Yuan stay a little longer.

They should hear what Su Wenyuan has to say.

How could they have the nerve to say that? They had absolutely no self-awareness.

However, the Emperor did not quite agree with one of Su Wenyuan's points: Was Su Lin'er really that difficult to deal with?
