It was freezing cold, and the three members of the Ma family didn't wake up until almost ten o'clock.
A chilling atmosphere permeated the cave, its coldness seeping in relentlessly.
Ma Hehua, still sleepy, rubbed her eyes, trying to adjust to being awake in the dimly lit cave.
She felt her body was stiff, and her limbs were heavy and numb.
She found a secluded spot in the cave and relieved herself.
While relieving herself, she looked around, afraid that someone might be watching.
The urine instantly emitted wisps of white vapor in the cold air, adding to the chill.
After relieving herself, Ma Hehua let out a deep yawn, as if to release all the weariness in her body.
Her mouth was wide open, and a few tears welled up in the corners of her eyes.
The yawn echoed clearly in the silent cave.
Ma Hehua's hair was a little messy, with a few strands sticking to her cheeks and dampened by her breath.
When she returned, she found that the people who had come last night had left. She was speechless. Couldn't they have waited for them to wake up and asked for directions?
Are you in such a hurry to leave? Are you rushing to be reincarnated? Really.
She turned to look at her daughter and her mother, who were still asleep, and a sense of helplessness and worry welled up in her heart.
We couldn't stay in this cold cave forever, but the weather outside was so bad that, unexpectedly, it started to rain.
Ma Hehua slowly walked to her mother and Lihua's side and gently nudged them. "Mother, Lihua, wake up. It's raining. We probably can't leave again." Her voice was irritated and seemed fiery in the cold.
Ma Linghua and Ma Lihua suddenly stood up; it was a bit cold in the cave!
"Lotus, go ask them where this is," Ma Linghua said as she tidied up.
"Hey! We couldn't find out. Those guys probably left before dawn, before we were even awake!"
"Then why didn't you ask when they were here?"
Faced with her mother's question, she was taken aback, then gave an awkward laugh, "I just forgot, didn't I? Besides, Mother, you did ask!"
Ma Linghua: "…………………………"
Ma Lihua looked at the cave ceiling and was speechless. She remembered all the unimportant things, but couldn't recall anything important.
"Alright, let's go check out the cave entrance!" As soon as Ma Linghua finished speaking, Ma Hehua quickly followed, and Ma Lihua followed as well.
It seemed to be drizzling outside the cave, and the yellow mud at the cave entrance had been crawled over by some animal, leaving deep marks.
The marks were winding and crooked, like the trail of some huge creature, which sent chills down one's spine.
A gentle breeze blew by, carrying a slight chill. The weeds at the cave entrance swayed in the wind, rustling as if whispering secrets to be kept hidden.
Raindrops fell gently, hitting the mark and splashing tiny specks of mud, but they could not cover up the chilling stain.
Upon closer inspection, the edges of the mark are jagged, as if it had been scratched by sharp claws, and the soil had been turned up, carrying a sense of savage power.
There were also some messy claw marks around, deeply embedded in the ground, as if the animal was full of urgency and agitation when it passed by.
In the valley, it seemed as if pairs of eyes were peering at the cave entrance, waiting for their chance.
An eerie aura spread out, sending chills down one's spine.
"Corpse Dog".
Ma Linghua's voice rang out at the cave entrance.
"Mom, what is a corpse dog?" Ma Hehua asked curiously.
"After the corpses mutate, they crawl on the ground like dogs. They will slowly mutate to act like dogs, eat anything that is alive. They are neither ghosts nor humans, mutating to look similar to those dogs. In the end, they will become rotting corpse dogs, and... they will also reproduce abnormally." As soon as Ma Linghua finished speaking, she sensed something strange about her surroundings.
Suddenly, a deep roar came from afar, echoing through the valley, filled with anger and threat.
The sound terrified the people inside the house, causing their hearts to race.
Some people mustered up their courage and approached the door, wanting to see what was going on.
When his gaze fell upon the mark, a chill ran from the soles of his feet straight to the top of his head.
He seemed to see the mysterious animal charging towards the door, baring its fangs and claws, spewing a nauseating breath from its gaping maw.
"Come back quickly!" the person inside cried out in terror, their voice trembling.
Just then, the grass next to the mark suddenly shook violently, as if something was moving inside.
A few drops of blood dripped from the grass, staining the yellow mud on the ground red.
Fear spread through everyone's hearts, and they involuntarily retreated into the room, blocking the doorway completely.
The noise at the doorway grew louder and louder; the sounds of branches breaking and stones rolling down mingled together, creating a terrifying symphony.
One of the girls couldn't help but scream, the sound echoing in the room and adding to the tense atmosphere.
"Shh! Don't make a sound!" someone warned in a low voice, but everyone's nerves were already on edge.
Suddenly, everything outside became quiet again, a silence that was frightening.
The unknown animal seemed to have vanished, but everyone knew it was just the calm before the storm.
After a while, a slow and heavy footstep sounded at the door, each step seeming to pound on people's hearts.
The footsteps grew closer, and the air in the room seemed to freeze.
With a loud "bang," a huge rock was smashed into the house, kicking up a cloud of dirt.
Immediately afterwards, a huge dark shadow appeared at the doorway, blocking out the faint light from outside.
The people inside the room stared wide-eyed at the dark figure in horror, but could not make out its true form.
All you could feel was a powerful sense of oppression coming at you, making it almost suffocating.
"Hmph! You beast, how dare you ambush me! Just wait and see if I don't beat you up!" Ma Hehua's voice echoed through the quiet valley.
"Roar roar roar roar..."
The dark shadow rose from the ground, looking ferocious and menacing, with saliva dripping from its mouth. A single drop would corrode the ground.
The five people in the room trembled, terrified by the sight of the dog with a human face.
This is terrifying! What kind of monster is this? A dog demon?
Before they could figure it out, the monster pounced on Ma Hehua. Ma Hehua was a little surprised. Oh dear! I didn't expect it to be someone with backbone.
That's great! She's going to get serious now.
"Whoosh..."
She drew the crescent-shaped dagger from her waistband, her heel slammed into the ground, causing the ground to dent immediately. With a kick of her cotton shoes, she jumped up.
"Take this!"
Before the rotting dog could react, Ma Hehua cleaved it in two with a single stroke.
Ma Hehua: "??????"
That's it? Who do you think you are? You're not even going to hide?
The five people in the dilapidated house were dumbfounded.
