Chapter 224 Introducing Cui Gu to an Old Man Who Dances in the Square

Shangguan Wenyan: "……………………"

Alas! His Pear Blossom is such a clever fellow; he concocted a happy ending for Cui Gu, but it was all seen through.

Ma Lihua understood perfectly well that her grandmother wouldn't pay attention to ordinary people, but it made sense if it wasn't an ordinary person.

“Cui Gu hasn’t given up. If she can’t have it, she might as well destroy it. As for that old man… those who meddle in other people’s business usually don’t have a good ending,” Shangguan Wenyan said casually.

Moreover, he's not a good person either. After entering the Ailao Mountains and seeing so many rare treasures, how could he be allowed to leave?

"She...wouldn't she cast a spell on my grandmother and the others?" she asked with some worry.

"Won't."

"Why?"

Because of me! Her pear blossoms aren't being clever anymore.

"You soak in the water, I'm going to chop some vegetables," Shangguan Wenyan said, standing up. He's quite skilled at housework now.

"Oh! Then go ahead! I'm getting a little hungry," Ma Lihua urged.

"I've already bought all the New Year's goods, so tell your aunties not to buy any more." She sighed as she spoke, "What a waste of time!"

"You bought yours, and we bought ours. How can they be the same?" Ma Lihua said softly, clearly unhappy.

Shangguan Wenyan: "…………………………"

Don't think he didn't hear; his hearing is perfectly fine!

Never mind, take it slow. Pear Blossom will accept him eventually.

Here, Ma Linghua and Ma Hehua arrived at Cui Gu's residence.

This is a wooden house of moderate size, nestled in the embrace of the mountains and forests, seemingly blending seamlessly with nature.

The surrounding area is a mud courtyard enclosed by a fence. Although the fence is somewhat old, it exudes a sense of simplicity and tranquility that comes with the passage of time.

Cui Gu was carrying a basket on her back, preparing to go out. Her hair was a little messy, but it had a unique kind of casual beauty.

The white light shone on her, outlining her graceful figure.

Ma Linghua stood at the gate of the courtyard and called softly, "Cui Gu."

Cui Gu turned around at the sound, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.

She put down her basket, patted off non-existent dust from her clothes, and walked towards Ma Linghua.

"Linghua, what brings you here?" Cui Gu's voice was crisp and indifferent.

Ma Linghua smiled slightly, her eyes filled with concern: "Cuigu, I've come to see you."

Seeing her carrying a basket on her back and glancing at her house, she pretended to ask, "Are you going to town?"

Cui Gu turned slightly to the side, her gaze sweeping over everything in the courtyard, seemingly avoiding Ma Linghua's gaze. "What's there to see? I'm perfectly fine, I was just about to go out."

Before she could even close the door, Ma Linghua walked into the courtyard and carefully looked around.

In a corner of the mud wall, several unnamed wildflowers are blooming freely, adding a touch of life to the somewhat simple courtyard.

“Cui Gu, your courtyard may be small, but it has a unique charm.”

Cui Gu gave a soft snort: "It's just a place to stay, what charm could it possibly have?"

Knowing Cui Gu's temperament, Ma Linghua didn't mind her coldness and continued, "Cui Gu, I heard that you've been collecting a lot of herbs on the mountain recently, is that true?"

When she asked that question, Ma Hehua was dumbfounded. Weren't they here to ask someone to buy New Year's goods? Why did they suddenly ask about herbs?

Cui Gu raised her head, a hint of wariness flashing in her eyes: "Why are you asking this?"

Ma Linghua explained, "I didn't mean anything by it, I was just curious. I know that most people in your village are quite knowledgeable about herbs, and I was wondering if I could learn from you."

Cui Gu frowned, seemingly considering something. After a moment, she slowly said, "This herbal medicine isn't something you can learn easily; you'd better not bother."

Ma Linghua was not discouraged: "Cuigu, please teach me. I really want to learn."

"Mom, didn't we come here to buy New Year's goods? Why do you need to learn to identify medicinal herbs?" Ma Hehua was completely bewildered.

Ma Linghua: "…………………………"

"Can you please shut up? Go away." Honestly, she could go buy New Year's goods tomorrow; she just wanted to get closer to Cui Gu and find out what secrets her family had.

Cui Gu glanced at her, then at Ma Hehua, and thought they both seemed rather dim-witted. How could they possibly learn to identify herbs?

Forget it!

However, seeing Ma Linghua's thick-skinned expression as she peered into the room, she sighed.

"Come in and have a seat!"

Ma Linghua led Ma Hehua and followed Cui Gu into the house, which was simply and neatly furnished.

A wooden table, a few wooden stools, and shelves against the wall filled with bottles and jars.

"Sit down," Cui Gu said, pointing to the stool.

Ma Linghua sat down, her gaze still scanning the room. Cui Gu poured her a glass of water and handed it to her: "Stop looking around. Tell me, what did you come to see me for?"

Ma Linghua took the water glass and took a small sip: "Cuigu, I won't dawdle anymore. I just wanted to ask how often you go to town, and if you go, just bring us something back."

Cui Gu was taken aback. She thought the woman had noticed something amiss in her room, but it turned out she just wanted her to bring something! "Sure! I'm going to town tomorrow. Just write down what you need on a piece of paper."

"Write a note? Don't you have a cell phone?" Ma Hehua asked, her question probing the very soul of the matter.

Cui Gu was silent for a moment. She didn't know how to use that thing! Besides, she was in seclusion in the deep mountains, how could she have time to play with her phone?

Besides, she's not young anymore, okay?

Seeing her expression, Ma Linghua gave Ma Hehua a sharp rap on the head, "If you can't speak properly, then shut up! You act like you're something special just because you have a cell phone! You think you're so great!"
