Chapter 225 Cui Gu's Heart Collapses Upon Seeing the Note

When they got home, they saw that Shangguan Wenyan had prepared the meal, and the group of people took their bowls and ate without any hesitation.

"Grandma, how did it go? Did Aunt Cui agree?"

After finishing her meal, Ma Lihua asked.

"Hey! There's nothing I can't do when I'm in charge. Write it down on a piece of paper and give it to her tomorrow."

Ma Hehua pouted, "You don't even know how to use a cell phone? You're so outdated."

As the Spring Festival approaches, the streets and alleys of the town are filled with a strong festive atmosphere.

Ma Linghua and her two friends huddled together in the room, writing things down and discussing how to buy New Year's goods.

The room was somewhat dark, the light from the lamps was dim and yellowish, but it illuminated three expectant faces.

Ma Linghua pulled out a stack of yellowed papers and a pencil from the bag. "We need to plan carefully and write down all the New Year's goods we need to buy, so we don't forget anything." Her voice carried a hint of excitement and solemnity.

Ma Lihua sat on the somewhat worn wooden chair. Taking the pen and paper from her grandmother's hand, she leaned forward, her eyes shining. "Write down the meat first, pork, beef, and mutton are all essential, we all love them." As she spoke, she quickly jotted down the words, as if the delicious meats were already laid out before her.

Ma Hehua leaned against the wall, scratching her head. "We also need to buy fruit—apples, bananas, oranges, and tangerines—to welcome the New Year with sweetness." Her voice was deep and strong.

Ma Lihua carefully wrote down each stroke, muttering to herself, "Yes, yes, fruit is a must."

"And nuts!" Ma Linghua suddenly raised her voice, "Walnuts, almonds, cashews, they're so delicious to eat while chatting during the New Year!" A satisfied smile spread across her face.

Ma Lihua continued, "Buy some more candy, and some chocolate too. Lihua loves these sweet things, and now that she's feeling better, she can eat them."

Ma Lihua nodded, her pen moving even faster. "Okay, write them all down."

"Don't forget the Spring Festival couplets and the character '福' (good fortune). They should be bright red and shiny to create the festive atmosphere of the New Year." Ma Linghua's eyes were full of anticipation for the New Year.

"Firecrackers and fireworks are a must too, the crackling and popping sounds are what make it feel like Chinese New Year." Ma Hehua's voice was filled with excitement.

Ma Lihua put down her pen, frowned, and said, "Fireworks and firecrackers are banned in the city now. Can we still buy them? Or maybe we can just buy some glow sticks?"

“Okay, let’s buy more colored lights and decorate the house to make it bright and cheerful,” Ma Hehua said quickly.

"Oh, right, we also need to buy new clothes and new shoes," Ma Linghua added.

"And all kinds of snacks, potato chips, cookies, jelly..."

"We also need to prepare all the seasonings in the kitchen, and have that kid Shangguan make a lot more," Ma Hehua said happily.

The three of them chatted away, and the words on the note grew thicker and thicker.

Ma Lihua's hands were a little sore from writing so much, but she always had a smile on her face.

"Oh dear, there's so much to buy." Ma Linghua exclaimed, looking at the long list of papers.

"This is what Chinese New Year should be like—lively, festive, and fulfilling," Ma Hehua said with a smile.

Ma Lihua put down her pen and gently blew on the writing on the paper. "Although there's a lot of stuff, we're happy to prepare it together."

The three looked at each other and smiled, their eyes filled with anticipation for the New Year and love for the future.

This long string of notes is not just a list of New Year's goods, but also their longing for reunion and happiness, and the deep affection flowing from their pens.

Cui Gu: "……………………………………………"

I would really appreciate it.

Shangguan Wenyan glanced at it; the note was incredibly long. He wondered if Cui Gu could possibly buy it all.

So in the afternoon, Ma Linghua went to find Cui Gu alone.

The day was gloomy and the weather was exceptionally cold, but Cui Gu's mood was anything but cheerful.

Ma Linghua rushed to her door and pounded on it.

"Clap clap clap!"

She waved a yellow slip of paper in her hand, as if she were holding a mysterious treasure map that could change the world.

Cui Gu opened the door and looked closely; it was Ma Linghua. So she let her into the house again.

When she took the note and looked at it, wow, the densely packed words on it looked like a swarm of tiny ants, making her eyes blurry.

Upon closer inspection, they were all kinds of New Year's goods.

“Cui Gu, you can read, right? Look, these are all the New Year's goods I want to buy!” Ma Linghua said excitedly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Cui Gu: "…………………………"

Cui Gu's lips twitched, and she cursed inwardly.

Just looking at this long list of things made her feel like she was going to be crushed.

"Linghua, did you buy too much for the New Year? Can you finish it all?" Cuigu couldn't help but ask, her voice trembling slightly.

Ma Linghua waved her hand dismissively and said, "Oh, Cui Gu, it's the New Year, so we have to have a feast! Look at this pork, we need dozens of pounds of it! We can make dumplings and braised pork, it'll smell delicious!"

Cui Gu's eyes widened: "Dozens of kilograms of pork? No, buying so much pork is a waste!"

Ignoring Cui Gu's complaints, Ma Linghua continued pointing to the note, "And this beef, we need to buy more. My little liver is growing, it needs nourishment!"

Cui Gu's lips twitched: "Pear blossoms do need nourishment, but not this much. This beef is ridiculously expensive."

"And this mutton, it's good for keeping warm in winter, we should stock up on more." Ma Linghua became more and more enthusiastic as she spoke.

Cui Gu couldn't help but interrupt her: "Linghua, there are only three of you to feed. Even with Lihua, you can't eat that much meat. Are you going to eat meat as your main meal?"
