Chapter 283 A Cry for Help in Winter

"Cough cough cough," a few coughs came from inside the house, breaking the afternoon's tranquility.

The cough was weak and feeble, yet it struck Lieutenant Chen's heart like a heavy hammer.

His expression instantly turned anxious, his brows furrowed, and his eyes were full of worry.

"Is the young master having another episode?" Lieutenant Chen muttered to himself, his voice filled with anxiety.

He quickly turned to look at Ma Lihua beside him, his eyes filled with reproach and urgency.

"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and feed the young master his medicine!" His voice rose slightly, carrying an unquestionable authority.

Upon hearing this, Ma Lihua was taken aback at first, but then she realized what was happening and quickly went inside.

Her steps were hurried, her skirt swayed gently with her movements, and she looked completely calm.

Ma Lihua felt very calm. She had seen him a few days ago and he was perfectly fine. How could he be sick now?

As you enter the room, a faint scent of herbs wafts towards you.

Chen Zhiqing lay on the carved bed, his face pale and his lips bloodless.

His eyes were slightly closed, and his brows were furrowed, as if he were enduring great pain.

Ma Lihua felt a moment of disorientation; she looked so much like her brother Shangguan. She quietly walked to the bedside and picked up the medicine bowl on the table.

The medicine bowl contained dark, bitter-smelling medicine. Ma Lihua carefully helped him up and brought the bowl close to Chen Zhiqing's lips.

"Young Master, it's time to take your medicine," she said softly, her voice gentle and concerned.

Chen Zhiqing slightly opened his eyes, glanced at Ma Lihua, and a dark undercurrent flashed in his eyes.

He opened his mouth slightly, letting Ma Lihua feed him the medicine spoonful by spoonful.

Each spoonful of the herbal decoction felt like a bitter drink, and Ma Lihua hoped that this bitter medicine would work as soon as possible to alleviate his condition.

Her movements were gentle and clumsy. Fortunately, the medicine had cooled down a bit, otherwise Chen Zhiqing would have been scalded to death.

He swallowed the medicine with difficulty, a look of pain on his face.

Ma Lihua looked at him with heartache and gently wiped away the medicine stains from the corner of his mouth with a handkerchief.

Great, her grandma said that the expression is on point; you can't let people know what you're really thinking.

After giving him the medicine, Ma Lihua gently put Chen Zhiqing down and covered him with a blanket.

She sat quietly by the bedside, watching over the young master, waiting for the medicine to take effect.

Lieutenant Chen glanced at her and nodded. Not bad, this girl is very sensible. Now he can rest assured.

When Deputy Officer Chen left, Ma Lihua peeked to see if he had gone far before getting up and closing the door.

The room was extremely quiet, with only Chen Zhiqing's faint breathing and Ma Lihua's tense heartbeat.

“You look a lot like one of my older brothers. Don’t worry, I will make sure to give you your medicine properly.” Ma Lihua seemed very responsible.

Outside the window, white light filters through the gaps in the leaves, casting patches of light on the ground.

A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and Ma Lihua yawned.

Looking out the window, she silently prayed that the man would recover soon.

Time passed by, and Ma Lihua stayed by his side the whole time, not daring to slack off in the slightest.

She would occasionally wipe the sweat from Chen Zhiqing's forehead and adjust the position of the blanket.

Her eyes were filled with concern and expectation, hoping he would wake up soon.

After an unknown amount of time, Chen Zhiqing's cough gradually subsided, and his complexion improved slightly.

Ma Lihua was overjoyed; she knew the medicine was beginning to take effect.

Having finished planning the Song family's businesses, Master Song shook off his exhaustion and stroked his beard.

“Youcai, go to the Liu family and invite Master Liu over. Tell him I have something important to ask of you.”

"Yes, sir."

Watching Wang Youcai leave, his eyes turned cold. He suspected that his mother had been possessed in the Buddhist temple. In Hunan Province, the most famous teacher was the Liu family.

Madam Song, who was enjoying delicacies in the Buddhist hall, was completely unaware of the situation.

"My mouth has become so bland lately, I really want to eat something delicious." She looked at the delicacies with a pale face, feeling utterly uninterested.

I peeked through the window and, damn it, that woman was sleeping in bed.

When Wang Youcai went to invite Grandpa Liu, he saw Ma Meizi's daughter on the street. She seemed to be in trouble, but he couldn't spare the time to help her. He thought it was more important to invite Grandpa Liu first.

In winter, he tugged at Ma Hehua's trouser leg, his face pale, and he had completely lost his former arrogance.

On the streets in early spring, the cold wind was biting, making people shiver.

Ma Hehua had just finished her meal at the food court and was preparing to return to the building with a satisfied feeling.

However, her good mood was instantly shattered.

A figure was seen lying on the ground, its cries sounding particularly mournful in the cold wind.

Ma Hehua looked closely and realized it was winter.

Winter was in the air, her face streaked with tears, crying pitifully. In a trembling voice, she said to Ma Hehua, "Aunt Ma, please save me. I don't want to become a prostitute. I don't want to." Her face was filled with fear, and her eyes were filled with despair and helplessness.

Ma Hehua frowned, a complex emotion welling up inside her.

On the street, people came and went, and many cast curious glances, but most only glanced at them briefly before leaving.

Looking at the cold weather, Ma Hehua felt a mix of hesitation and annoyance.

After all, encountering something like this on a busy street is indeed a bit unlucky.

"Get up first, stop crying." Ma Hehua's tone was stern.

Winter, however, clung tightly to Ma Hehua's skirt as if grasping at a lifeline, refusing to let go. "Aunt Ma, I really have no other choice, please save me," she continued to sob, tears streaming down her face.
