The night at the Song residence was tranquil yet tinged with mystery.
When Ma Hehua arrived at the Song residence, it was already past eleven o'clock.
The moonlight, as clear as water, bathed her, as if draping her in a layer of silver gauze.
She slowly raised her head, gazing at the bright moon hanging high in the sky. The cool moonlight illuminated her slightly tired face.
In that instant, a hint of dark red flashed in her eyes, like a mysterious light suddenly appearing in the night sky, making it unfathomable.
That dark red hue seemed to conceal countless thoughts and secrets.
She pushed open the back door of the Song residence quietly without making a sound.
I felt a little uneasy. It's so late, why aren't her mother and daughter asleep yet?
She gently pushed open the door, and the scene inside came into view.
Her mother was staring at the kerosene lamp with a heavy expression. The dim yellow light flickered, as if telling some secret.
Her mother's face was full of worry, and she kept sighing and looking at her.
"Mother, why aren't you asleep yet?" she asked.
Under the lamplight, her mother's figure looked exceptionally eerie.
Ma Hehua quietly walked to her mother's side and sat down.
She didn't say anything more, but just silently looked at her mother.
Inside the room, the dim yellow kerosene lamp flickered, as if telling the story of the vicissitudes of time.
Ma Linghua's question was like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, instantly shattering the tranquility of the night.
"Lotus, you haven't been home lately, where have you been?" Ma Linghua asked, her eyes filled with worry and confusion.
Ma Hehua was dumbfounded. "No, Mother, I must be sleeping in the middle of the night. Where could I go?" she said, her face full of doubt, her eyes revealing innocence and confusion.
Her voice sounded exceptionally clear in the quiet night, yet it carried a hint of uncertainty.
Ma Linghua frowned slightly, her gaze fixed on Ma Hehua, as if trying to discern a clue from her face. "Last night, you returned covered in blood." Her voice was low and serious, each word striking Ma Hehua's heart like a heavy hammer.
"What? Impossible, Mother! We only kill ghosts, not people! I haven't killed anyone!" Ma Hehua was agitated, her voice trembling slightly, her eyes filled with panic and fear.
Her hands were clenched tightly together, her nails digging deep into her palms, yet she felt no pain whatsoever.
Ma Hehua's mind was in chaos. She tried hard to recall what happened last night, but all she remembered was fighting with evil spirits in the darkness.
The demons, with their hideous faces and bared fangs, lunged at her, and she fought them off with all her might.
However, she couldn't remember where the blood on her body came from.
“Mother, you must be mistaken. How could I come back covered in blood? We’ve been killing ghosts all along. I won’t kill anyone, I swear!” Ma Hehua said urgently, her eyes filled with determination and sincerity.
Seeing Ma Hehua's excited expression, Ma Linghua's doubts did not lessen.
She knew that Lotus's Asura form was extremely brutal, but she wouldn't kill people easily.
But how do you explain the blood all over his body?
"Lotus, think carefully, what exactly happened last night? Did you encounter something?" Ma Linghua asked softly, her voice full of concern.
Ma Hehua closed her eyes, trying to calm herself down. She recalled every detail of last night, attempting to find the source of the blood on her body.
Suddenly, a blurry image flashed through her mind.
In that scene, she saw herself fiercely fighting a demon that was exceptionally powerful, and it took her a great deal of effort to defeat it.
During the battle, she appeared to have been scratched on the arm by a demon, and blood stained her clothes.
Ma Hehua opened her eyes, a hint of surprise flashing in them. "Mother, I remember now. Last night, when I was fighting the evil spirit, it scratched my arm. That's probably when the blood stained my clothes," she said urgently, hoping to dispel her mother's doubts.
After hearing Ma Hehua's explanation, Ma Linghua's worries did not subside.
However, she was still worried. "Lotus, you must be careful in the future. Our Ma family doesn't kill people unless absolutely necessary, but you can't put yourself in danger," she cautioned.
Ma Hehua nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "Mother, don't worry. I'll be careful. I won't kill anyone, but lately, I've been feeling a bit unwell," she said.
The night remained deep. Ma Hehua and Ma Linghua sat before the kerosene lamp, their hearts filled with worry.
Ma Linghua knew that the road ahead was long and full of unknown dangers.
However, they will not back down; they will bravely face all challenges.
“Grandma, the blood on my mother’s body is animal blood,” Ma Lihua suddenly said.
"Animals? No, that's not right! I clearly killed a ghost last night." She herself seemed to remember it vaguely, yet clearly.
"Alright, go to sleep. We'll talk about it tomorrow during the day." As soon as Ma Linghua finished speaking, the three of them washed up and lay down on the bed.
"Mother, when can we go back?" Ma Hehua asked, unable to sleep.
"When the time comes, we'll go back."
Ma Lihua stared at the ceiling of the bed. The space was fluctuating greatly. Was it an accident or something else?
Moreover, her body was fine even without soaking in the medicine.
Was it already healed?
So why did Brother Shangguan keep lying to them?
Everything was shrouded in mystery, as if some dark fog was blocking the way ahead.
