Ma Hehua looked at the darkness, a faint, fishy stench lingering in the air.
Chen Zhiqing stood alone in the dimly lit room, his face gloomy.
He slowly raised his hand and gently touched his back, the sensation filling him with disgust.
Large, irregular scales peeked out in the dim light, like a curse from hell.
A faint, fishy stench wafted out, filling the air and making him feel nauseous.
His eyes were filled with malice, and he cursed the damned rules in his heart.
Clearly, those terrible adverse reactions are about to return.
He gritted his teeth, calculating the time. There were still three months before he could reach the Chen residence, and during this long journey, he had to find a way to control this terrifying change.
His hand trembled slightly as he pulled a crystal-clear insect from his sleeve.
The insect wriggled slightly in his palm, emanating a mysterious aura.
Chen Zhiqing took a deep breath and gently placed the insect on his back.
Suddenly, a miraculous scene unfolded.
The insect seemed to have a life of its own, clinging tightly to his back and beginning to emit a soft glow.
As the light spread, Chen Zhiqing could feel a strange tingling sensation on his back.
The menacing scales began to recede at a visible rate, and the wounds healed rapidly.
In no time, his back became no different from normal skin, smooth and delicate, as if the terrifying scene before had never happened.
Chen Zhiqing's tense nerves finally relaxed a little. He let out a soft breath, but his eyes were still full of worry.
He didn't know how long this temporary peace would last, nor what changes might occur before he reached the Chen residence.
But he knew he couldn't be exposed; he had to find a way to completely solve the problem.
As dawn broke, sunlight shone through the thin clouds onto the earth, giving people a fleeting illusion of warmth.
A group of people embarked on their journey again. They walked on the narrow road, their steps slightly tired but firm.
As they continued their journey, the number of refugees along the way increased, surging in like a tide.
These refugees were ragged, haggard, and their eyes revealed endless despair and longing.
The closer you get to the north, the more pronounced the ancient and traditional scenery becomes.
Women with bound feet can be seen everywhere; they walk with difficulty, each step seemingly carrying the weight of a heavy history.
And there were more and more men with long braids, their figures standing out conspicuously in the crowd.
The three members of the Ma family were dressed in a way that was out of step with this turbulent era.
"Kind person, please give me some food!"
A somewhat disheveled middle-aged woman yelled at Lieutenant Chen and his men.
Her voice was hoarse and shrill, like a desperate cry.
The woman's face was covered in grime, her hair was disheveled, and her eyes were filled with a longing for food.
Deputy Chen looked impatient. They themselves were almost out of food, so where would they get food to give to others?
He glared at the woman and shouted, "Get out of here!" The woman lowered her head helplessly, and the light in her eyes gradually dimmed.
The group continued on their journey and finally arrived at a plain.
The view here is expansive, and a gentle breeze brings a refreshing atmosphere.
Deputy Chen carefully helped Chen Zhiqing out of the car.
Chen Zhiqing stood on the plain, squinting slightly as he savored the moment of tranquility. His adjutant, Chen, cheerfully said beside him, "Young Master, we have chicken, beef, and noodles today."
His face was full of anticipation, as if these foods were the most precious treasures in the world.
However, as soon as Chen Zhiqing finished speaking, the adjutant felt a pang of sadness.
"Go and call Pear Blossom and the others to come for dinner."
He thought of those three women; in his opinion, those three women didn't look like good people at all.
They are always mysterious, with an unfathomable light in their eyes.
Lieutenant Chen was worried that they would cause trouble for the young master, but he dared not disobey the young master's orders.
Chen Zhiqing seemed to sense what his adjutant was thinking. He frowned slightly and asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
After hesitating for a moment, Lieutenant Chen still voiced his concerns: "Young Master, those three women... I just feel like something's not right about them."
Chen Zhiqing was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "Let's see first. Maybe they're not as bad as you think."
Lieutenant Chen: "……………………"
What could he say? What could he see? He doesn't seem like a good person at all.
At this moment, Ma Lihua and the others also came over.
Ma Lihua wore a faint smile, but her eyes held a hint of barely perceptible happiness.
She knew that Lieutenant Chen had some suspicions about them, but she had no way of explaining her identity and purpose.
We can only try to keep a low profile and hope not to cause too much trouble.
The four of them sat together and began to enjoy this rare delicacy.
The aroma of chicken, the richness of beef, and the texture of the noodles blend together to whet the appetite.
"It smells so good!"
"Some people are eating dumpling noodles."
"Quick, there's food."
The starving people within a few miles, like hungry dogs smelling meat, swarmed toward Chen Zhiqing and his group.
The three members of the Ma family calmly ate their food. Chen Zhiqing kept putting chicken on Ma Lihua's plate and even thoughtfully removed the bones for her.
Ma Linghua: "……………………"
Ma Hehua: "……………………"
The two of them disapproved of it.
The starving people within a few miles, like hungry dogs smelling meat, frantically approached where Chen Zhiqing and his group were.
