On the quiet alley of Wutong Lane, Ma Hehua's figure appeared exceptionally busy.
Moonlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, dappling the ground.
Her gaze was firm yet tinged with urgency as she searched among the row of old locust trees.
"Which tree is this...?"
Ma Hehua was dumbfounded. Since she didn't know, she decided to dig them all up, whether they were locust trees in the yard or along the road. She planned to dig them all up in one night.
"Pah! Pah! Pah!"
She rolled up her sleeves, revealing her fair yet strong forearms, and began turning over the soil under the first old locust tree with a shovel.
Before long, a box of valuable calligraphy and paintings appeared before us.
Her eyes lit up, and the corners of her mouth turned up slightly as she pictured the look of surprise and delight on Fa Chugui's face when he saw the calligraphy and paintings.
She gently brushed the dust off the box, as if she could already see Fa Gui carefully treasuring these calligraphy and paintings. That image filled her heart with joy, and she accepted the box without hesitation.
Then she walked toward the second old locust tree and swung the shovel again with great enthusiasm.
A muffled thud rang out, startling her, and she quickened her pace.
As the soil was dug away, the old antiques and dilapidated objects gradually came into view.
She frowned, her expectant gaze instantly dimming. She pouted and muttered disdainfully, "These junks aren't even as new as the ones behind my bronze door."
But then she thought about it again. Her father loved tinkering with these things. She pictured his childlike curiosity and excitement when he saw them, and a smile appeared on her lips.
She dusted herself off, preparing to take these things back to her father, hoping to hear him praise her for being filial.
As she pondered, she looked at the row of old locust trees, wondering what treasure might be hidden under the next tree!
However, she was also a little unhappy, hoping that the next one would be the silver dollars and gold that Xiong Ba had mentioned! She dug and went straight back, not wanting to waste any time.
Humming a little tune, Ma Hehua contentedly carried Xiong Ba's box towards the prison.
Meanwhile, under the cover of night, undercurrents were surging in the capital.
Upon returning to the prison, he saw Chuntian, who looked aged and worn. She was no longer young; wrinkles covered her face, making her appear exceptionally weathered.
"Spring? What are you doing here?" Ma Hehua's tone was very unpleasant.
"You...who are you?"
Ma Hehua now has a beautiful yet sinister face, and Chun Tian won't recognize her for a while.
"Who am I? You don't know? Just as I thought! Just like your daughter, you're an ungrateful bastard."
Upon hearing the voice, Chuntian immediately recognized her and quickly explained, "Aunt Ma, I'm so sorry I didn't recognize you. How have you been all these years? I often think of you. After you left, many things happened in the building. If it weren't for your care and reminders, I wouldn't have achieved what I have today."
"Oh! Not bad, you do have a conscience." Ma Hehua felt relieved. She knew it! Spring is not an ungrateful person.
"I'm telling you, the thing you gave birth to is really no good. If you ask me, you didn't choose the right one."
spring:"……………………"
"Yes, Auntie is right."
She humbly accepted Ma Hehua's criticism, and also noted that the Ma family's appearance remained unchanged even after more than twenty years. She knew they were no ordinary people.
"Auntie, don't worry, I'll use my connections to get you out tonight."
Seeing her sincere expression, Ma Lihua looked up, then glanced at her grandmother, sighed, and nodded.
As they parted, Ma Lihua whispered in her ear, "Aunt Chuntian, you will have another child next spring. Please borrow a good seed for the child then!"
As Chuntian watched the three figures depart, she murmured, "Thank you."
A gentle breeze blew by, and Spring stood where she had seen them off. In March, the peach blossoms were in bloom, but the flowers in the capital were still withered. If this were in the south, the peach blossoms would probably be in full bloom.
This might be the last time they see each other. Spring knew in her heart that this parting would be forever. How lucky she was to have met such a capable and extraordinary person as Aunt Ma.
Chaos has broken out in the capital again.
Master Li from the east of the city got up early to admire his newly acquired antique vase, only to find that the treasure buried under the locust tree had vanished. His eyes widened, his face flushed red, and he paced back and forth in the courtyard, roaring at his servants to search everywhere.
Mr. Wang from the south of the city had planned to go to the pawnshop today to exchange his chest of gold for silver notes to expand his shop, but he found the area under the locust tree empty.
He slumped to the ground, his eyes vacant, muttering to himself, while the servants beside him were too frightened to breathe.
Then there was the warlord Zhao, whose collection of calligraphy and paintings by famous figures was his most treasured possession, which he often showed off to others.
Now that his treasure has gone missing, he is as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, and has sent many of his men to inquire about the news throughout the city.
In no time, all sorts of news circulated in the streets and alleys.
Some people said they saw a dark figure moving among the locust trees at night, while others said they heard strange digging sounds.
Chaos reigned in the mansions of these powerful and influential people.
The maids stood trembling to the side, afraid that their master's anger would affect them.
Some of the gentlemen were so angry that they smashed the tea set, while others lashed out at their subordinates.
They couldn't understand how their treasure could suddenly disappear on their own heavily guarded territory.
