The night wind, like a roaring beast, relentlessly swept across the river.
Those who couldn't afford a room huddled on the deck, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.
In the darkness, the cold seemed to take on a physical form, like icy tentacles tightly binding them, causing every inch of their skin to feel an excruciating pain.
The three members of the Ma family suddenly opened their eyes, and in that instant, vigilance spread through the air like an electric current.
"Mom, ghost realm."
Ma Hehua's voice was filled with excitement.
Ma Linghua slowly opened the window and looked at the river. The scene there made her gasp.
"What's wrong, Mom?"
Ma Hehua followed her mother's gaze and was immediately dumbfounded. Countless eerie lights—how many people must have died from this!
On the river's surface, a faint green light flickered, like will-o'-the-wisps from hell.
By the faint moonlight, one could see the cold air rising from the river, the wisps of air seeming to emanate from countless vengeful spirits struggling and howling.
The river seemed to be infected by this eerie atmosphere, becoming sinister and terrifying, its slow flow sounding like the whispers of ghosts.
The eerie light grew brighter and brighter, illuminating the entire river surface like a terrifying painting.
Within that green light, countless unspeakable evils seemed to be hidden.
The people on deck watched in horror, unable to move, as if bound by an invisible force.
The wind grew even stronger, howling through every corner, bringing chills and despair.
The chill from the river kept rising and gradually spread onto the deck.
People felt as if they were in an ice cellar, with the cold spreading from their feet to the top of their heads.
The mysterious power within that green glow seemed to be constantly approaching, filling people's hearts with indescribable fear.
In this terrifying night, no one knew what awaited them; only endless fear loomed over everyone like a shadow.
This way.
The room was filled with a suffocating atmosphere of terror.
Gao Xiaoqiao's eerie and terrifying voice echoed continuously, each word sounding like a curse from the depths of hell.
"Tap~tap~tap~" Her leather shoes stomped on the floor, the crisp echo like a countdown to death, pounding on Wang Mingshu's nearly collapsing nerves.
Wang Mingshu covered his mouth tightly, his heart pounding wildly as if it would burst out of his chest.
He lay on the pillar in the room, his eyes wide open, overwhelmed by fear.
The monster below, the once familiar Gao Xiaoqiao, has now become a dried-up corpse.
Her body was contorted, her head drooping limply, like a puppet with its strings cut, lifeless yet exuding an evil aura.
Gao Xiaoqiao moved slowly, her movements stiff and strange.
The dry skin clung tightly to the bone, as if it might peel off at any moment.
There was no light in her eyes, only endless darkness and emptiness.
As she walked, she called out to Wang Mingshu in a sinister voice, "Brother Mingshu, come out quickly! Where are you? Didn't you say you were going to my house to propose marriage? Come out quickly! I've agreed to your proposal."
Every word was like a sharp thorn, piercing Wang Mingshu's heart.
The air in the room seemed to freeze, with only Gao Xiaoqiao's footsteps and calls echoing in the air.
Wang Mingshu felt as if he were in a terrifying nightmare from which he could not escape.
He stared at Gao Xiaoqiao's terrifying figure, his mind flashing back to the beautiful image of her in the past, but now all of that had been replaced by horror.
He didn't know why Gao Xiaoqiao had become like this, nor did he know how to escape.
Fear made his body stiff, and he could only cling tightly to the pillar, praying that Gao Xiaoqiao would not find him.
As time passed and the search for Gao Xiaoqiao drew ever closer, Wang Mingshu's heart was in his throat.
He didn't know how much longer he could hold on. In this terrifying room, despair, like a dark shadow, enveloped him tightly.
"Clap clap clap!"
The loud banging on the door sounded particularly abrupt and eerie in the quiet night.
The door to the Ma family's room was being pounded on frantically, the sound like desperate people knocking on the door of survival.
Then, several panicked voices came in.
"Is anyone there? Open the door and save us! We'll give you money, as much as you want, anything you need."
A woman's voice came from outside the door, filled with endless fear and urgency. She pounded on the door incessantly, the sound like a death knell.
Ma Linghua narrowed her eyes slightly and gave Ma Hehua a wink.
Ma Hehua walked slowly toward the door with a reluctant expression, as if each step was filled with heavy resistance.
With a creak, the door opened, and immediately, about a dozen women and men rushed in like a tidal wave.
They looked panicked, their faces filled with fear, as if some terrible monster was chasing them.
However, when she saw that someone else wanted to come in, Ma Hehua quickly slammed the door shut.
The sounds of banging and shouting outside the door rose and fell, but they could no longer budge the tightly closed door.
Ma Linghua rubbed her hands together, a smile appearing on her face, a smile that seemed to carry a hint of cunning and calculation.
Her gaze was fixed intently on the intruders, as sharp as a hawk's.
At that moment, Ma Lihua swiftly pulled a calculator out of her bag, her movements as fast as lightning.
The calculator gleamed coldly in the dim light, and in this terrifying atmosphere, a tense tension permeated the relationship between the three members of the Ma family and the intruders.
