Chapter 4 Gray Dome Era 4 Why are the newbies afraid to kill? ...
"What happened?!"
"Fasten your seatbelts!"
"Grab your guns, prepare for battle!"
The sounds were chaotic. Nanmenjue covered his abdominal wound under his protective suit, worried that it might burst open. A metallic taste rose in his throat.
...this useless body.
No one paid any attention to Nanmen Jue. She rolled over and got up, more nimbly than an uninjured normal person. Suddenly, a violent gust of cold wind swept in, and she heard someone roaring.
"Everyone get ready! A radioactive blizzard is coming!"
Nanmen Jue's heart sank.
Radioactive blizzards are among the most dangerous natural disasters in the world. Violent hurricanes carrying high concentrations of radioactive particles form superstorms with wind speeds reaching 200 to 300 kilometers per hour. But their dangers extend beyond their function as biological cutters; the particles they carry can even carbonize life and corrode and melt the hardest metals.
Even the Grey Tower only developed a special material capable of withstanding snowstorms and created a protective shield after experiencing several painful lessons.
If it really is a radioactive blizzard, they will surely die.
But... it shouldn't be like that.
If this world was truly designed by computer programs, then they are essentially game players. How could a game set the spawn point in a place where one is destined to die?
Nanmen Jue reached out his bound hands, grasped Zhang Chuxi's obviously panicked hands, and whispered, "Don't be afraid."
Zhang Chuxi was taken aback. She turned around and saw Nanmen Jue's calm eyes, and he seemed to be less afraid after all.
She's only at level five, has only experienced one world, and is far from learning to remain calm when faced with a dead end.
Nanmen Jue said, "Untie my chains, quickly!"
Zhang Chuxi hesitated for a moment, but Nanmen Jue didn't give her time to think. "Are you relying on that guy surnamed Zhu, or are you relying on these NPCs to protect you?"
This sentence played a crucial role. Zhang Chuxi immediately raised her gun and aimed it at Nanmen Jue's chains, but before she could aim, the car shook again and came to a complete stop.
A roar erupted from the car's loudspeaker.
"Attention all - enemy attack!"
It wasn't a radioactive blizzard; it was the rebels coming to rescue Nanmenjue!
Zhang Chuxi said in a panic, "I...I have to go fight."
All the soldiers sprang into action. She couldn't possibly stay there alone. Before she could even stand up, their vehicle was struck by some kind of heavy blow, flipping over and throwing everyone inside. Zhang Chuxi crashed into Nanmen Jue.
Nanmen Jue swallowed the taste of blood in his mouth and gripped the chain around his neck tightly, both to maintain his balance and to prevent himself from being strangled.
They stumbled to a stop, the carriage door opened, and a cold wind howled in, mixed with icy snow. A blinding white light appeared before their eyes, and Nanmen Jue's eyes were immediately stimulated, bringing tears to his eyes.
"Break my chains first!" she shouted, now unable to see Zhang Chuxi's location.
Roars and gunshots rang out incessantly. Nanmen Jue wiped away the tears on his face and squinted at the situation before him.
A stray bullet grazed her leg and hit her feet. Someone was shouting something, but the sound was swallowed up by the chaotic battle.
There were very few people left in the car; only three people were still guarding Nanmen Jue. Even though they were all wearing similar clothes, Nanmen Jue still recognized Zhu Wenjie's figure near the car door.
As he fired, he turned his head to look in the direction of Nanmenjue, his actions showing no hesitation and even a sense of eager excitement.
He was enjoying killing, even though he was killing NPCs. Each bullet seemed to be aimed at Nanmen Jue, not the NPCs.
Just then, an explosion rang out nearby; someone had blown open the car wall next to them!
Two of the three soldiers were blown away. Amidst the fierce dust and snow, Nanmen Jue coughed violently, her breath fogging up her gas mask. She squinted and strained to see ahead.
A person completely covered up jumped in, quickly scanned the area, and pinpointed Nanmen Jue's location. His equipment wasn't as sophisticated as Gray Tower's, and the moment their eyes met, Nanmen Jue saw his eyes.
A look of surprise appeared in his eyes, and he strode towards Nanmen Jue. Nanmen Jue not only did not approach, but instead retreated warily.
After entering the world, the reincarnator can only see the identity introduction and has no virtual memories. Nanmen Jue cannot be sure whether the rebel is truly on a friendly side or wants to take the opportunity to silence her.
Her headache and dizziness worsened, and the wound on her abdomen, which had been torn open by the impact, was bleeding profusely.
"Don't come any closer!"
Zhang Chuxi raised her gun with trembling hands. At the same time, the man's eyes turned cold. Just before he fired a bullet at Zhang Chuxi, Nanmen Jue grabbed her and pulled her behind him.
"Rebels?"
"Nanmen Jue?"
Having confirmed each other's identities, the rebels aimed their guns at the chains on Nanmen Jue's hands and fired a precise shot, then turned their attention to the chains on her feet.
“Follow me!” the rebels said.
Nanmen Jue barely regained her freedom, and her first action was not to escape, but to snatch the guns from the rebels.
The rebels were startled and instinctively raised their guns to aim at Nanmen Jue. When they met Nanmen Jue's dark phoenix eyes, they were momentarily stunned.
Those eyes held no light, but rather a startling stubbornness, as if she would do anything to achieve her goal.
"Give it to me," Nanmen Jue said.
Without saying a word, the rebel pulled out a spare pistol from his side and threw it to Nanmenjue.
Nanmen Jue caught it steadily. She had never handled a gun before, but she had watched many gunfight movies. Recalling the close-up actions in the movies, she moved her hand as if it were her mind, and with a soft click, she skillfully cocked the gun.
Zhang Chuxi's tone changed: "What are you going to do?!"
Nanmen Jue pushed aside the rebels. Amidst the swirling dust and stray bullets, she made almost no attempt to dodge, stumbling forward until she found Zhu Wenjie's figure among the fighting crowd at the entrance. Slowly but firmly, she raised her gun.
Zhang Chuxi stopped breathing.
"Are you crazy?" she said in horror. "Would you dare to kill someone?"
Don't be ridiculous, Nanmen Jue is just a complete newbie! Shouldn't she have just come from a peaceful modern society? How could she calmly raise a gun and point it at a living person?
How dare she defy the rules of the supreme god?
“It is true that he was required not to kill anyone, but as he himself said, there are ways to kill him even if we don’t kill him directly,” Nanmen Jue said calmly.
"No--"
Bang.
Nanmen Jue fired without hesitation, but she had no feel for firearms and missed on the first shot.
Zhang Chuxi was stunned and could no longer dissuade her. Nanmen Jue clicked his tongue and tried to aim again.
Another shot missed, but this time it was very close to Zhu Wenjie. Zhu Wenjie realized that someone was deliberately attacking him. He looked over and saw Nanmen Jue holding a gun.
"You bastard! You actually tried to kill me?"
He roared and charged toward Nanmenjue.
Nanmen Jue raised his gun again. The rebel looked at Zhu Wenjie, then at Nanmen Jue, and also raised his gun to point at Zhu Wenjie.
At this moment, because of Zhu Wenjie's actions, the people of Gray Tower discovered that Nanmenjue's carriage had been invaded, and they all moved closer, suddenly increasing their firepower. The resistance fighters were unable to resist for a moment and shouted to Nanmenjue, "Retreat!"
However, Nanmen Jue remained motionless.
Neither side dared to fire directly at Nanmen Jue because of her status. However, bullets have no eyes, and stray metal fragments cut Nanmen Jue's face. A trickle of crimson blood flowed down her pale face, and she revealed a breathtaking smile.
“That’s right,” she said. “It’s easier to aim when you’re closer.”
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.
Before Zhu Wenjie could get close, she fired several shots, finally hitting him in the calf. He screamed and fell headfirst into the snow, blood flowing from his body as he writhed and howled in pain.
Nanmen Jue wanted to fire another shot, but the rebel grabbed him, shouting, "It's too late, run!"
When Nanmen Jue turned around again, Zhu Wenjie, who was lying on the ground, had already been swallowed up by the crowd. She turned around and left without hesitation, and saw Zhang Chuxi who was stunned.
Although Zhang Chuxi looked very scared, she protected herself very well because she stayed by Nanmen Jue's side the whole time and didn't even get hurt.
She was about to say something when she suddenly saw Nanmen Jue wink at her.
Just before the rebels were about to carry Nanmen Jue over the train carriage, she fired a shot at the rebels next to her, and then shouted at the top of her lungs.
"The rebels are going to kidnap Nanmen Jue!"
In an instant, all the Gray Tower warriors rushed over.
The rebel soldier suddenly turned around, his eyes looking like he was about to kill Zhang Chuxi at any moment. Nanmen Jue shoved him hard.
"I can't leave anymore, you should go!" she said with a tragic expression.
"I'll take you away!" the rebel roared. "You'll die if you go back!"
He actually tried to pick Nanmen Jue up and leave, but Nanmen Jue pressed hard on her injured abdomen, and blood oozed from her fingertips. The rebel's pupils contracted, and Zhang Chuxi also gasped.
You're injured!
"Their goal is to take me back; you can only leave if I stay."
Nanmen Jue's bloodstained fingers left a clear mark on the rebel's clothes. She leaned weakly against the car wall, a faint smile on her face.
"Whether I die or not is in the future tense, but if you don't leave now, you'll die in the present tense."
The rebel looked at her intently, then finally gave in. He braced himself with both hands and flipped over the broken carriage wall, leaving behind the words, "Don't die! Wait for me!"
He turned and left, and the gunfire outside gradually stopped. Nanmen Jue, still wearing a chain around his neck, slowly walked out of the collapsed carriage.
Many people were watching her. Blood dripped from her abdomen onto the snow. Her long, dark hair spread across her body. Under the gray sky, she looked up at the boundless, desolate land, tears welling in her eyes from the shock.
"So this is what the apocalypse is like," she said with a smile.
