Chapter 195 A Misunderstanding: Mo Gui's Background.
These are such straightforward words; even an illiterate person should be able to understand their meaning.
Mo Heng's face was pale, and his expression changed in a very interesting way. He was confused and angry, but more than that, he was puzzled.
"Why is this happening?" Mo Heng dared not shout anymore, letting out a suppressed roar, "Mo Xiaoman, what have we done to wrong you that you would do this!"
"Because you are 'us,' and I am just me?" Mo Gui said sharply.
Do you really have to nitpick over this word?
"Then what else do you want to say?"
"I don't understand what you're so upset about! The Mo family provides you with food and drink, so what are you dissatisfied with? Are you comparing yourself to me? Is it because I'm the heir and you're not, that you're resentful and feel it's unfair?"
"I've never cared about any heir!" Mo Gui roared, unable to contain himself any longer. "Stop playing dumb! Don't you really know why I left that family? Leaving aside whether you want me alive, is the way you treat me really how you treat your family members who are your equals? Brother, I'm not completely ignorant!"
Mo Heng's expression went blank. "What do you know?"
“What should I know?” Mo Gui said. “Whatever I know is definitely what you don’t want me to know.”
"You don't understand? I don't understand at all. If you hate me so much, don't want me to live, and even want me to disappear from this world, then why did you give birth to me in the first place? Even if you had to give birth to me for some reason, wouldn't it be much easier to kill an infant silently than to kill a seventeen-year-old boy now?" Mo Gui's tone was extremely sharp. He finally hardened his heart and laid everything bare, forcing himself to face the bloody truth.
Mo Heng's face was deathly pale. "How...how did you know...?"
“I heard it myself.” Mo Gui smiled, unconsciously mimicking Nanmen Jue’s sarcastic laugh, but his voice trembled. “On the day before summer vacation started, I excitedly went to the study to find you and Dad. I wanted to ask if the promise we made about going on a family yacht vacation at sea still counted, when we were leaving, how many days we would stay, and whether I needed to bring my homework… Then I heard you talking.”
Mo Heng clearly knew what conversation he was referring to, and his expression immediately twisted.
"I'm so sorry, you thought I wasn't home, so you didn't close the door properly, and that's why I heard you." Mo Gui's voice trembled even more violently. "Dad said that if we had known this would happen, we would have preferred not to let him live. And you said that if we wanted him to die now, it wouldn't be impossible."
Mo Heng's lips trembled slightly.
"What else do you want to say? Do you want to say I misheard you? That you're not talking about me? Or that you're just joking?" Mo Gui said. "I never knew my family would talk about killing someone so casually, even if that person wasn't me. Isn't that terrifying?"
“Xiaoman…” Mo Heng said softly.
"I know, I know you're good to me, but do you really think I can't tell what kind of good you are?" Mo Gui didn't care what he was going to say and threw out all the things that had been stuck in his heart. "You never let me get close to the core of the family, and you never let me understand you. Do you think I care how much money I can inherit? I try to deceive myself and coax myself, as long as you love me, as long as you are all by my side... But a beautiful dream is still just a beautiful dream."
After Mo Gui finished speaking with a sob in his voice, the air fell silent.
He had never told anyone these things, except when Nanmen Jue was killing people indiscriminately and acting coldly and ruthlessly. During a breakdown, he mentioned a little background, which made Nanmen Jue wonder: Doesn't Mo Gui's family own a chain of hot pot restaurants? Why would they be involved in murder?
She originally planned to investigate his family's affairs in the real world after that world ended, but unexpectedly, Nanmen Yu died in that world. Her world was turned upside down, and apart from revenge, she had no energy to do anything else.
Now it seems that the Mo family has serious problems.
And now, the only person who can explain all of this is silent.
After saying all this, Mo Gui didn't expect to get a reply. He wiped his eyes hard and turned to look at Nanmen Jue.
"Sister Jue, let's go."
Nanmen Jue glanced at the dazed Mo Heng.
"It's okay, I don't care anymore." Mo Gui forced a smile, trying to appear as carefree as before. "Let's end this world quickly and go back to eat something delicious."
This was Mo Gui's private matter, and he didn't want an answer. Nanmen Jue didn't insist either. She nodded, and the three of them were about to leave when Mo Heng's voice rang out from behind them.
"You... you actually heard that."
Mo Gui's breathing quickened for a moment. "Yes, I heard it."
“Then you must not have listened any further.” Mo Heng smiled bitterly. “Because Dad’s next words were, ‘We’ve raised them to this age, who could bear to part with them?’”
Mo Gui was taken aback, then suddenly turned around and stared straight at Mo Heng.
The fear and confusion in Mo Heng subsided, and although his face was still pale, he exuded a certain composure.
“You heard me right, this really is referring to you, and your feelings all along… are not wrong.” Mo Heng said, “Originally, my parents and I thought it would be good to live happily without you knowing these things for the rest of our lives, but we never expected that we would make such a mistake.”
Now it was Mo Gui's turn to stare blankly at him.
"Did you enter this space because you heard these things?" Mo Heng asked as if to confirm.
"What?" Mo Gui didn't understand.
Nanmen Jue understood. The way to enter the reincarnation space is to unleash a huge amount of negative emotions, especially despair and terror. After learning about the authority of the main god, this reason for entry became a matter of course, but almost no one in the reincarnation space guessed this.
Mo Heng guessed it.
Mo Heng stared at Mo Gui's face for a long time and said, "Now that we've come this far, no matter how much you resent it, I should tell you the truth. You're not actually a child of the Mo family."
Mo Gui was stunned.
“The reason your family is deliberately hiding the truth from you is because your identity is not so simple,” Mo Heng said. “You probably don’t know that our family didn’t start out as a hot pot restaurant. Thirty years ago, Dad was a mercenary.”
This sudden development not only stunned Mo Gui, but also Nanmen Jue. She and Ying Yao exchanged a glance, both of them looking surprised.
“It’s a very well-known mercenary organization,” Mo Heng emphasized.
"What's your name?" Ying Yao suddenly interrupted.
Mo Heng glanced at him, but still didn't hide anything, "The Iron Crusade."
“The Iron Crusade? I actually know about that.” Ying Yao said in surprise, “It’s an international mercenary organization that has cooperative relationships with the official military of many countries. Because they are good at jungle and mountain warfare, they know a lot about criminal dens that regular armies don’t know about.”
“That’s right, my father was one of them.” Mo Heng said with pride.
Mo Gui suddenly realized a possibility, and his face turned pale.
"Could it be... could it be that I am...?"
Mo Heng looked at him again, paused for a few seconds, and said, "That's right, you are... the child of a criminal."
Mo Gui's tall figure staggered slightly, and Nanmen Jue placed his palm on his back to provide support.
"I am...whose child am I?" Mo Gui said in confusion. "What is his name? What crime did he commit?"
“You don’t need to know any of this,” Mo Heng said sternly. “Don’t ask questions, and don’t doubt! What we’ve been doing all along is keeping you away from that dangerous world and letting you grow up in a healthy environment. As for your biological parents, they are both dead!”
Do not return to silence.
Seeing his expression, Mo Heng silently gritted his teeth and softened his tone: "Originally, your father did not want to save you. You were just born then, still covered in blood, but it was uncertain whether you had already become addicted to drugs from your mother. If that were the case, then dying at that time would have been the best outcome for you."
“But your birth mother, that woman who had just given birth, grabbed your father with her blood-covered hands and begged him to save you,” Mo Heng continued. “She didn’t come with your birth father willingly; she was taken away. She was originally just an ordinary farm girl from a small neighboring country, so she doesn’t love your father. On the contrary, she hates him! Your father is a complete and utter scoundrel who is anti-human. You will never, ever need to know who he is.”
Mo Gui had completely lost the ability to think. He opened his mouth several times, but couldn't say anything. Finally, he said in a hoarse voice, "My biological mother..."
“She’s dead,” Mo Heng said. “She breathed her last after seeing Dad nod in agreement to save you.”
Mo Gui fell silent again.
“We originally thought that Dad had retired and moved to the safest country to live away from all of that. But we never expected that your biological father’s former subordinates would still find us after so many years of relentless searching.” Mo Heng’s expression turned cold and hard. “They want to find you, and they also want to find our family.”
Mo Gui suddenly shuddered. "So you said those things because..."
"That's just nonsense." Mo Heng gave a wry smile. "Not keeping you back then was the safest thing for us, but like Dad said, we've raised you for so many years, who could bear to part with you?"
No one expected the truth to be like this.
Mo Gui felt like his whole world had collapsed. If it weren't for Nanmen Jue supporting him, he would have been sitting on the ground by now.
Ying Yao took out a small notebook, scribbled a few lines in it, tore it off, and handed it to Mo Heng, saying, "When you get back, have your father make this call."
Mo Heng instinctively took it, "What's this?"
“The people who can protect your family,” Ying Yao said. “The members of the Steel Crusaders are entitled to protection from the partner countries after they retire.”
Mo Heng glanced at Mo Gui but said nothing.
Nanmen Jue understood; if it weren't for the need to avoid exposing Mo Gui, they wouldn't have refrained from searching for people.
“Mo Gui is not Mo Xiaoman now, so you can look for them without worry,” Ying Yao said. “Just give me my name, and I’ll make all the arrangements for you. I’ve written it down here.”
Mo Heng silently looked at the last two characters, "Ying Yao".
“If those people haven’t found you yet, don’t worry about them finding you through ‘Mo Xiaoman’s’ traces.” Ying Yao added, “The God’s tools are very useful. The moment he changed his name, all traces of his past were erased. However, I still suggest you seek protection and contact the authorities for an extra layer of protection. This won’t affect your hot pot business.”
