Chapter 1 The Gray Dome Era 1: A Hellish Start.

Chapter 1 The Gray Dome Era 1: A Hellish Start.

"Wake up, wake up! Time is running out!"

A low female voice called in her ear, and Nanmen Jue regained consciousness. A tearing pain came from her lower abdomen, and she instantly suppressed her rapid breathing.

The abdominal muscles feel tight when contracting, and there is no wetness, so the wound should not be large, and there is no blood loss or danger to life.

There was a vague feeling of something foreign inside the skin, as if a hard object had been forcibly inserted.

Just as Nanmen Jue was about to open his eyes, another male voice rang out, full of frivolity.

"Oh, this time I'm with two people, and they're both women? Looks like I've hit the jackpot."

"Don't come any closer," the woman said tautly. "You should be able to see my name and the guild name after it, right? If you touch me, our guild will hunt you down."

The man grumbled in dissatisfaction but did not refute the woman's words. Then, Nanmen Jue felt a gaze fall on him.

The man's breathing seemed to stop for a moment.

"Holy crap, that's gorgeous! Wait, is it a guy or a girl? Let me see, there's no guild name after this person's name, so you guys probably aren't together, right? Huh... still a blank name, no points at all, holy crap! This is a newbie!"

The woman's breathing also became rapid.

The man's voice immediately changed, "Since they're not together, are you still going to care about him? You should think this through, Miss Zhang Chuxi."

They were arguing, even with malice towards Nanmen Jue, but Nanmen Jue kept his eyes closed, a calm yet resolute smile on his face.

She succeeded; she entered the cycle of reincarnation that would engulf her sister.

Just five days ago, Nanmen Jue, a freshman in the medical department of the capital university, returned to her dormitory and found that her things had been moved. The clothes she had carelessly thrown on the bed before leaving the house had been washed and folded, and the bed sheets had been changed to new ones. There were also her favorite chocolate cookies on her desk. There was only one person who would do this, and that was her older sister who had raised her since she was a child and depended on her for survival. She immediately called her sister, but received a message that she was out of service.

Her school was in the same city as her sister's. As the youngest director of the Department of Cardiovascular and Neurosurgery at the University Affiliated Hospital of the Capital, her sister couldn't have left the capital without a word. Even though the relationship between the two sisters had always been somewhat tense, especially in the last two years, and they had even had a big argument about Nanmen Jue's university major, Nanmen Jue firmly believed that her sister would never have left alone without telling her. She was almost immediately certain that something must have happened to her sister.

Because of the things she found in her dorm room.

She had a growth in her brain, which was discovered too late and was in a very bad location, making surgery impossible. After receiving the results, her first thought was that she was glad she hadn't gone to the hospital where her sister worked for a checkup.

Nanmen Jue lost her parents when she was six years old. In that car that carried three people, only Nanmen Jue survived. That year, her older sister, who had just been admitted to university, rushed back from out of town and handled the funeral arrangements for their parents on her own. When Nanmen Jue woke up from her coma, her sister became her only family.

Her worst fears came true: her sister discovered her diagnosis with her own eyes.

Nanmen Jue only stood there stunned for a second before turning around and rushing out of the dormitory. She watched the sun set until it disappeared, and her cold, trembling fingers dialed a familiar number, only to hear repeated "out of service area".

She suppressed the fear that gripped her very being and went to the police station to report her missing. The police took the disappearance of a cardiothoracic surgeon very seriously and carefully investigated all kinds of clues, but to no avail.

On the day the clue was discovered, she was staring intently at the search and rescue team conducting a dredging operation in the artificial lake next to the school when the police walked over. She had already guessed what he was going to say.

"The salvage operation is being stopped, is that right?"

"...The announcement period will begin, and the reward will be continuously posted to the public. If anyone has any information, please report it at any time." The police officer felt sorry for the girl, who was the same age as his own daughter and had lost her only relative. "You're still sick, so go back and rest. Didn't the capital hospital say they would cover your medical expenses? It would break my heart to see you like this."

"Then let her out and give her a good talking to," Nanmen Jue said. "Please let me know immediately if you have any news. I need to see her alive or dead, please."

That night, when she got home, she didn't turn on the lights. She sat alone in a chair in the living room, overwhelmed by guilt, regret, and anger towards herself.

Because of her striking appearance and eccentric personality, she had no parents. From the time she started interacting with people, she would fight with them—boys, girls, and adults who looked at her strangely. She would fight until her parents were called in, until she was taken to the police station, until she was suspended from school, until her nose bled and her eyes were so swollen that she couldn't see. The most serious time was when her spine was almost broken, and she became paralyzed.

That day, she lay on a mobile hospital bed, her neck and legs wrapped in bandages. Her sister silently watched over her, the reflection from her glasses obscuring her cold, elite face, but her sister's voice held a weary disappointment.

"Aren't you going to change your temper?"

Twelve-year-old Nanmen Jue stood tall, her eyes filled with the stubbornness and sharpness of a young beast, and the scars all over her body had not dulled her spirit.

"You think you can make me admit defeat just like that? You're underestimating me." She said, "If you also think it's my fault, then I won't admit defeat to you either, sister."

With her youthful fists and fearless ruthlessness, she earned everyone's respect and kept their distance, but also caused the two sisters to misunderstand each other for more than a decade. In the older sister's eyes, this was ferocity and rebellion, but Nanmen Jue believed that she used her own strength to defend her and her sister's dignity.

Even though she was battered and bruised, a win is a win. She may have paid a price, but she got what she wanted. That's fair. Only when she stepped on the necks of those who had insulted her could she look them in the eye and talk about respect and equality.

Her sister never understood her, but her sister's life was ruined by her.

She still remembered that when her sister was a junior in college, as a recipient of the national first-class scholarship, her advisor recommended that her sister study abroad and pursue both degrees at the same time. At that time, she would not only be able to obtain a domestic degree, but also a degree from one of the world's top five medical schools. Her sister did not say a word about this. It was Nanmen Jue who found the invitation letter that her sister had put at the bottom of the box at home.

After being admitted to the capital university, she went to the archives and found her sister's information along with her own rejection letter.

She wrote that she was not qualified enough and lacked the ability to handle both studies at the same time... But how could Nanmen Yu lack the ability? The only reason she could refuse was Nanmen Jue, who was only eight years old that year.

Does she deserve it? What makes her so special?

Nanmen Jue raised her pale face and slowly scanned her surroundings in the darkness. Suddenly, her gaze fell on the overturned table leg.

She discovered a crucial clue.

My sister has indeed disappeared, but it wasn't by human intervention. She entered a strange and terrifying alien space, where anyone who enters is guaranteed to die.

After figuring out the conditions for entering the space, Nanmen Jue immediately guessed that the reason his sister had been dragged into this was because of her.

So Nanmen Jue entered the place without hesitation, with only one goal: to find her sister and rescue her.

Unlike other newcomers to the space, she had prepared herself for the worst. So even when she faced two unfriendly "companions" at the beginning, she was not flustered. She knew she was injured and bleeding, but fighting and bleeding were commonplace for her. This injury was nothing compared to what she was used to.

“I advise you not to act rashly, Miss Zhang Chuxi.” The man’s voice carried a sense of impatience. “Let me test whether he is a man or a woman.”

Zhang Chuxi paused for a moment, then said, "He's already awake."

"Who said that..."

The man's voice was cut off halfway through. He looked down and met Nanmen Jue's narrow phoenix eyes staring at him.

Jet-black hair, jet-black eyes, and a face that, though pale and frail, was captivating.

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes beautiful and alluring, seemingly born with affection, yet containing a faint hint of melancholy, with sharp lines drawn from her brows to her jaw. Though she was in a low position, her gaze seemed to carry an almost mocking scrutiny.

When she finally opened her eyes, both the male and female voices disappeared.

Indeed, it was an androgynous face, combining softness and sharpness. Although he had long hair, his waist and legs were in excellent proportion, and it wouldn't be unreasonable to call him a refined and slender man.

She is strikingly beautiful, even if thrown into a crowd, yet she resembles an untamed wild wolf.

Nanmen Jue stared at the two strangers, silently curling up her legs to cover her injured abdomen. This movement activated the chains binding her.

The surroundings were shaking. They were in a car traveling at high speed. The cold seeped in through the car walls, penetrating every crevice of their bones. Nanmen Jue's hands, feet, and neck were all locked with thick iron chains. The other end of the chains was firmly fixed to the car wall. Unless one was a monster with superhuman strength, it would be impossible for him to break free.

The man and woman who had just spoken were wearing close-fitting combat uniforms, except that the woman's uniform was white and the man's was black, and there were helmets of the same color next to them.

Besides the three of them, there were some soldiers in black and white combat uniforms, all wearing helmets. However, they all looked like wax figures in a wax museum, maintaining the same pose without moving.

Nanmen Jue herself was a locked-up prisoner with injuries on her body. Next to her was a gas mask, which was probably taken from her face.

A hellish start.

Nanmen Jue's gaze swept over the heads of the only two people who could move.

Green text floated above the woman's head: Zhang Chuxi, Iron Drill.

Above the man's head floated blue text: Zhu Wenjie, Entropy Ashes.

Both of them were looking at Nanmen Jue without speaking. Nanmen Jue absorbed the limited information he had and leaned weakly against the car wall behind him. His voice was soft and had a kind of androgynous magnetism.

"It seems like I'm the only newbie. Have you all been through several worlds?"

Zhu Wenjie pressed, "Are you a man or a woman?"

Nanmen Jue said, "Is that important?"

The two exchanged a glance, their eyes revealing hostility. Zhu Wenjie's expression was sizing, his mood shifting between uncertainty and unease.

Does it matter to him whether someone is male or female? Nanmen Jue kept his breath and didn't speak, but it was Zhu Wenjie who couldn't control himself first.

"Kid, you're quick to adapt." Zhu Wenjie's face was gloomy. "Very good. Although there are newcomers this time, they seem to be of decent quality. Nanmen Jue, right? If you're an uncooperative idiot, I'll find a way to keep you here, whether the God of War allows it or not, so you won't hold us back."

It seems he has already accepted that Nanmen Jue is a man, or rather, he doesn't believe that a young girl who has just entered a dangerous and unfamiliar world would be so bold as to confront him head-on.

Zhang Chuxi glanced at him warily, her voice tinged with urgency: "You should have the explanation of this space in your head by now. Have you read it all? What is your mission?"

Nanmen Jue withdrew his gaze from Zhu Wenjie and began to read the information that appeared in his mind.

Similar to what she had learned before, this was a place called the "Reincarnation Doomsday Space," where a supercomputer created various types and eras of apocalyptic worlds. An entity called the "Main God" selected suitable people from each world to enter the space, allowing them to survive in each apocalypse and complete their tasks to earn points. These points could be exchanged for various skills and items, which were the means to survive in the cruel Reincarnation Doomsday.

Once you accumulate one million points, you can redeem the option to permanently return to reality.

In the Cycle of Doomsday, points are represented by levels, with each major segment consisting of twenty levels. These segments are divided into five major segments: green, blue, purple, orange, and gold, for a total of one hundred levels.

Because points are not fixed once acquired, points are deducted for failing tasks, exchanging items, and trading within the space, resulting in a large fluctuation range. Therefore, someone who reaches the maximum level may not necessarily have a million points. The calculation method here is explained by the main god in a very complicated way, which Nanmen Jue simply categorizes as "the final interpretation right belongs to the main god".

There's only one thing to note: except for complete newcomers, if your points reach zero, you'll be eliminated.

Zhang Chuxi's green name indicates that her level is between 1 and 20, while Zhu Wenjie's blue name indicates that he is between 20 and 40.

You can earn points as long as you survive a post-apocalyptic world. Only newcomers who have just entered the first post-apocalyptic world will have their names in pure white font, just like Nanmen Jue. Therefore, as soon as they see Nanmen Jue, they can tell that she is a complete newcomer. This is something that cannot be hidden at all.

Nanmen Jue had a headache and a body ache. Her start in the game was a bit bad. She was still sorting through the information when Zhu Wenjie suddenly spoke up.

"What are you laughing at?" he asked sullenly.

Nanmen Jue raised an eyebrow.

Before she could speak, Zhu Wenjie stood up and kicked her hard. "I'm asking you a question, don't you understand? You're wasting this little bit of protection time, speak! Speak! Speak!"

His movements were quick and powerful, far exceeding those of an ordinary person. Without even looking, it was clear that if someone were kicked, they would inevitably suffer a ruptured spleen.

Nanmen Jue reacted extremely quickly. Although she was bound by chains, she quickly bent over in the limited space, bending her body at an incredible angle, and felt the sharp wind whistling past her head.

With a loud bang, Zhu Wenjie kicked the solid bronze and iron walls of the chariot, causing him to cry out in pain.

"You damned thing!"

He was about to grab Nanmen Jue, and in such a narrow space, Nanmen Jue could no longer hide.
