Chapter 118 Interlude 8: An Unexpected Visitor.
The flash went off, illuminating the pale, yet clearly defined outlines of the two people on the bed. Even for just a moment, it was enough for them to see how disheveled they looked.
The woman screamed, grabbed the blanket Lin Jianye was under, and pulled it over her head. It's unclear where she got the strength, but she managed to throw Lin Jianye off balance.
But Lin Jianye had no energy to argue with him right now. His face was pale, but he didn't panic. He just cautiously looked at Nanmen Jue, suppressing his panic, and asked, "Who are you? What do you want?"
Although he tried his best to suppress it, his fear was easily revealed. The ability to enter a "secret room" silently was unpredictable, but that was nothing. What truly frightened him was that Nanmen Jue did not cover his face at all.
If someone wants to do something bad, as long as they cover their face, it means they still have some concerns about their actions. But if they expose their face and don't care that the victim sees their face, it means they have no concerns and may not even intend to leave any survivors!
Seeing that Nanmen Jue did not answer, he simply raised his phone again and took a picture of Lin Jianye's face. Under the flash, Lin Jianye's face looked shockingly ugly.
"Your Excellency would be better off letting me die knowing why," he said sinisterly.
Nanmen Jue finally spoke: "Who said you were going to die? Don't talk nonsense. I'm a law-abiding citizen. I don't do things like murder and arson."
Lin Jianye nearly choked.
A law-abiding citizen? A law-abiding citizen who breaks into someone's bed in the middle of the night and points a gun at the homeowner?
Having put enough pressure on him, Nanmen Jue finally took pity and put down his phone. Lin Jianye's expression hardened, realizing that the real conversation was only just beginning.
Nanmen Jue asked, "Do you know who I am?"
Lin Jianye was startled. By the moonlight, he tried his best to examine Nanmen Jue carefully again, recalling memories from before he was seven years old, but still had no recollection of him.
"……No."
“That’s right,” Nanmen Jue said. “This is the first time we’ve met.”
"..." Lin Jianye really felt like vomiting blood.
"What exactly do you want?" He roared at Nanmen Jue with a desperate air, "Kill me or let me go, this is my only life! We're all in this together, why are you humiliating me like this? Who sent you?"
"I already said, I'm a law-abiding citizen, and I'm not on your side." Nanmen Jue chuckled, no longer keeping her in suspense. "Do you know what your precious son has been up to these past two days?"
"...What?" Lin Jianye was shocked and uncertain. He never expected that such a terrifying person would be involved with his son.
“Your son, the little bastard born of a big bastard,” Nanmen Jue said impatiently. “He was arrested a couple of days ago, did you know that?”
"...I know." Lin Jianye swallowed his anger. "They were just playing around with a young girl. The boys were a bit rough, and the girl called the police. I had my secretary handle the matter...You have a relationship with that girl?"
Because it was unbelievable, his voice became shrill.
"That's impossible! I investigated that girl..."
"You investigated Zhu Wenjun and found out that she was just a poor girl who had no parents and grew up with her brother. So when she called the police, you were too lazy to go yourself. You figured that even if things got really big, it would just be a matter of paying more money. Besides, she has a timid personality and didn't even dare to ask for emotional compensation, so she's even easier to be manipulated, right?"
Nanmen Jue's tone was no longer playful, but calm and indifferent. Seeing the disbelief in Lin Jianye's eyes, she sneered, offered no further explanation, and stood up, raising her gun and pressing the muzzle against Lin Jianye's forehead.
Lin Jianye let out a bloodcurdling scream, unable to maintain his feigned composure any longer. He trembled all over, biting his tongue as he cried out, "Yes, let's talk this out! Let's talk this out! You really were sent by that little girl? What does she want? Money? I'll give her as much as she wants! Don't hit her!"
Nanmen Jue raised her chin, lowered her gaze, and looked at the disheveled man begging for mercy with the eyes of someone looking at trash. An enemy of this level made her unable to even muster any anger, only feeling disgust in her heart.
“Make your son and his best friend drop out of school together,” Nanmen Jue said calmly.
"What? Withdraw from school?" Lin Jianye was stunned, then nodded hurriedly, "Okay, okay, I'll have them transfer schools right away!"
“It’s not a transfer, it’s withdrawal,” Nanmenjue said. “You must have been able to tamper with the records from the police report, right? I didn’t check, but I’m telling you now, get the records back, put all the materials into their file folder, yes, the file folder that will stay with them for life.” Nanmenjue said, “Then withdraw from school through proper procedures.”
Lin Jianye's face grew increasingly grim. Sweat beaded on his naked body, glistening with oil on his middle-aged, overweight frame. But facing Nanmen Jue, he dared not utter a single word of rebuttal.
This request was very low, very kind, even unimaginably low, but it was the kind he found hardest to accept.
He dared not refute, but Nanmen Jue could see his displeasure. She did not speak, but with a click, she cocked the gun.
This trick worked like a charm. The oily sheen on Lin Jianye's body intensified, and he shouted in a trembling voice, "I understand! I understand!"
“Don’t bother looking for Zhu Wenjun, she knows nothing. Besides, if you dare to do anything unnecessary…” Nanmen Jue smiled meaningfully, “even if you are under the most secure protection in the world, I can still come in and kill you.”
She didn't say anything like "Try it if you don't believe me," but simply stated a fact that didn't need to be doubted. Lin Jianye could naturally discern this confidence based on strength.
“…I understand.” He said in a dry voice, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything except make them drop out of school.”
"Files?" Nanmen Jue kindly reminded him.
“There are also files.” Lin Jianye didn’t dare to refute Nanmen Jue at all now.
Nanmen Jue twirled the gun butt between his fingers, then patted Lin Jianye's face with the gun barrel. "If you don't want me to visit you often, then you'd better keep an eye on those two little bastards."
Just like before, there were no harsh words, just stating a fact.
Lin Jianye swallowed slowly and with difficulty. A drop of sweat fell from his forehead and slid right into his eye. He dared not move and just blinked hard. However, when his vision cleared again, the exquisite and alluring face in front of him had disappeared.
Just as strangely as his arrival, Nanmen Jue vanished without a trace.
Crack, crack.
A faint cracking sound came from beneath him. Lin Jianye lowered his head blankly. Before his terrified brain could react to what was happening, a loud crash resounded as the solid wood bed they were on cracked and collapsed.
Amidst screams, Lin Jianye and his mistress fell into a pile of rubble. The mistress peeked out, and the two men, their faces pale, stared at each other in disbelief.
...
The next day, Nanmen Jue arrived at the hotel at seven o'clock sharp and picked up Zhu Wenjun, who had already washed up. Seeing that she still looked a little timid, she didn't explain much and took her to have breakfast.
While Zhu Wenjun was focused on eating, Nanmen Jue, biting on a soy milk straw, pushed a new cell phone towards Zhu Wenjun.
Zhu Wenjun was stunned, and hurriedly shook her head, "Brother, I can't take this."
“It was bought with your brother’s money,” Nanmen Jue said.
Zhu Wenjun's eyes widened, and her fingers, which were about to push the phone back, froze.
Nanmen Jue took out another bank card and placed it on his phone. "This is the one he left with me before. The password is six zeros. I don't know how much money is in it. Now I can't find him, and you're short of money, so you can take this and spend it."
Zhu Wenjun seemed completely at a loss, "Why did my brother leave his card with you? I'm sorry, I wasn't there..."
Realizing that her tone might be misinterpreted as an interrogation, she hurriedly tried to explain, but Nanmen Jue shrugged indifferently.
“He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to save money, so he put several cards with different people. You can use these first, and if you need more money, I’ll ask the others for it back.”
She didn't elaborate too much on her relationship with Zhu Wenjie, knowing that saying more would only lead to more mistakes, so she left it at that and let the listeners fill in the blanks themselves.
Sure enough, the question on Zhu Wenjun's face disappeared. She stared blankly at the phone and card on the table and lowered her head.
Nanmen Jue was already quite familiar with her behavior patterns; he could tell from the way she lowered her head that the girl was about to cry again.
She sighed, and then heard Zhu Wenjun speak in a very, very soft voice, so soft that even if Nanmen Jue hadn't evolved to the highest level of human evolution, she wouldn't have been able to hear it at all.
"Actually, my brother won't not come back, right?"
Nanmen Jue was speechless.
Perhaps the girl understood everything and guessed some kind of truth, but she dared not, and could not bear to, ask Nanmen Jue.
...
Zhu Wenjun withdrew some money from the ATM, including the unpaid accommodation fees and some living expenses. Looking at the considerable sum of money displayed on the machine, Zhu Wenjun was not surprised this time.
Perhaps she had already guessed that the money didn't belong to her brother at all, but to Nanmen Jue. It wasn't surprising how much money Nanmen Jue had in his account.
But she accepted it anyway.
Nanmen Jue patted her head and escorted her into the school gate. Watching the girl walk a few steps with her schoolbag on her back and then turn back, she smiled and raised her hand, waving at her.
Once the girl's figure was completely out of sight, Nanmen Jue's expression gradually changed.
That kind of sharp, vigilant aura, hidden in her brilliance, is something she only reveals in the dangerous cycle of reincarnation.
She quickened her pace and turned into a deserted alley.
“You’ve been following me for so long, isn’t it time for you to come out?” she said.
There was complete silence behind me.
“When I came out of the hotel, I noticed someone was following me. At first, I thought it was one of Lin Jianye’s men. Oh, don’t worry about who he is. Your agility is too good. If Lin Jianye could find you to be his henchman, he wouldn’t be so afraid of me.”
A gentle breeze blew by, ruffling the stray strands of hair on Nanmen Jue's forehead. She stretched out a finger and pressed it down.
“You are from the cycle of reincarnation,” she said with certainty.
The words were spoken, and there was no punishment; Nanmen Jue had guessed correctly.
Without a sound, a faint light flickered before Nanmen Jue's eyes, and a figure seemed to appear out of thin air behind her.
Nanmen Jue turned around, and a face he had never seen before appeared before him. It was handsome and refined, and the expression between his brows was not cold or indifferent, but rather a deep and calm serenity.
This kind of temperament, this kind of strength.
"Ying Yao," Nanmen Jue called out the person's name.
