Wenyan's heart skipped a beat at his solemn tone, and she momentarily forgot to reply.
Qiu Yi didn't get a reply from her, so he looked at her and saw Wen Yan staring blankly ahead.
He quickly looked ahead, wondering if she had seen the person she liked. But he found only a group of children playing in the square; it couldn't be her!
"Wenyan, don't you want to be my girlfriend? Or is it that your family won't let you find a partner?" Qiu Yi turned to face her and asked anxiously.
"No, my family doesn't care about me. It's just that I never thought about dating you before. Now that you've suddenly asked me this, I don't know how to answer," Wen Yan said shyly, turning back to look at him.
"Then you can either nod or shake your head. If you nod, you'll be my girlfriend from now on. When we go back home for the New Year, I'll go to your house to propose. If you don't agree, you'll still be my junior. I'll still help you if you need my help." Qiu Yi looked at her and said seriously.
Wen Yan nodded subconsciously.
Qiu Yi's eyes immediately crinkled when he saw this, and he asked again uncertainly, "Yan Yan, are you really going to agree to date me?"
Wenyan nodded, "Mm!"
Aside from a simple "uh-huh," she was momentarily at a loss for words, still pondering whether she should say something. Unfortunately, it was her first time dating, and she lacked experience, so she genuinely didn't know what to say at that moment.
Seeing how naturally Lin Yuan and Huanhuan got along, she suddenly didn't know how to interact or speak with Qiu Yi.
Qiu Yi grinned and said, "Okay, thank you, Yan Yan. From now on, you're my boyfriend, and you can't agree to marry anyone else. If you want to get married soon, we can get married here, but we'll have to write home. However, my parents are both at work, so I'm afraid we'll have to take time off to come."
"No, let's date first, and then we'll go back home for the New Year. I'll introduce you to my parents." Wenyan shook her head immediately upon hearing the word "marriage." She didn't have Huanhuan's courage; she met Lin Yuan on the first day and decided to get married the next day, instead of just dating.
Qiu Yi chuckled, "Alright, let's start dating. I'll talk to the captain about it, is that okay?" Since they've decided to date, they need to settle things down. If he talks to the captain, he won't introduce Yan Yan to any other men in the future.
Wenyan nodded and then hummed in agreement.
After receiving her consent, Qiu Yi mustered his courage and reached out to hold Wen Yan's right hand with his left.
The moment their hands met, both of them felt a jolt in their hearts, followed by a warm feeling that slowly spread through their souls.
Wenyan's face gradually flushed as he took her hand, and her whole body felt hot. Even the popsicle in her left hand felt hot, not cold.
After finishing their popsicles, the two sat quietly side by side for a while, their fingers still intertwined.
About half an hour later, Qiu Yi looked down and asked her, "Shall we go back? Or, what would you like to eat? How about I take you to eat before we go back?"
Wenyan shook her head. "The restaurant hasn't started serving food yet. Let's go back!"
"Okay!" Qiu Yi replied and stood up, pulling her up with him, but he didn't dare to hold her hand any longer and could only reluctantly let go of her hand.
The two walked side by side toward where the bicycles were parked.
"What are you planning to do in the future? What if they try to scheme against you again?" Now that this person has become her partner, Wen Yan naturally has to think about his safety.
Qiu Yi looked up at the street scene in the distance and said softly, "I have no personal grudges with them. If they want to scheme against me, it's for the position of captain. I'll just give it up. I have a girlfriend now, so I naturally have to consider the safety of both of us. I've been the captain for a few months now, and I don't want to be the captain anymore."
Wenyan was relieved to see that he thought that way. "Well, that should put you safe."
Seeing that she agreed with his decision, Qiu Yi smiled and was in a good mood. "From now on, I will discuss all my decisions with you. When we get back, will you come with me to the brigade leader's house to talk about this?"
Wenyan nodded, "Okay!"
On the way back to the village, Wenyan initially held onto the bicycle seat just like she had when she left in the morning to avoid falling off.
But Qiu Yi reached out and placed her hand on his waist, coughed lightly and said, "If you hold onto the seat, your hand might get caught in the spring. Just put it on my waist and hold onto my belt so you won't fall off."
Wen Yan gave a soft "oh," and her right hand actually wrapped around his waist. This made her feel much safer, but she still felt it was a bit too ambiguous. Was it really okay to hug his waist like this? What if someone saw them and said they were indecent?
Lin Yuan and Zhao Huanhuan went to the station, stored their bicycles, and went into the waiting room to wait for their tickets to be checked.
Because it was Sunday, the station waiting room was crowded, and all the seats were taken.
Holding her ticket, Zhao Huanhuan found the ticket gate and saw that there were already two long lines of people queuing up.
She simply called Lin Yuan over, and the two of them joined the queue.
"Huanhuan, watch the things, I'll go buy you a soda!" Lin Yuan put the things on the ground and was about to go buy her a soda.
Zhao Huanhuan quickly stopped her, "You stay here and wait in line, I'll go buy it!"
"No, I'm worried about you being alone. You have to stay here." Lin Yuan grabbed her hand and said earnestly.
Zhao Huanhuan chuckled speechlessly, "Comrade Lin Yuan, I also came here alone by train from Yuancheng."
