Chapter 16 Corn

Yan Sisi squatted down to help, not quite sure about her father's question, "I've never grown anything before, so I don't know if it's possible, but I'll know after trying. Dad, can you get some medicinal herb seeds?"

She had hidden a lot of things about the space from them. She didn't mention a word about the spiritual spring water and the ancient tree. She just planned to quietly add some to the water at home in the future.

The family of three helped together and quickly cleaned up the vegetables that Yan Sisi brought out. After they finished, the clock pointed to nine o'clock, and everyone washed up and went back to their rooms.

Mother Yan tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Too many things had happened at home recently, and her mind kept wandering to various things. Finally, she thought about how her daughter hadn't told her about such a big thing that happened to her, so she couldn't help but sit up and patted her husband beside her: "Old Yan, don't sleep anymore, I can't sleep."

Father Yan was about to fall asleep when he was slapped awake. He opened his hazy eyes and looked at his wife who was sitting up and still awake, mumbling, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

"How can I sleep? Don't you think my daughter has changed recently? She used to tell me everything that happened to her, but she only told us about the recent events after the fact. Is it because we haven't paid enough attention to her recently?"

"I thought something was wrong. This shows that our daughter has grown up. If she really encounters a problem that she can't solve, we are here to help her. Don't worry." Father Yan grabbed Mother Yan's hand and pulled her down. He comforted her, "Besides, we can't protect her all her life. She has to learn to grow up on her own. Go to bed quickly. You have to get up early tomorrow."

After he finished speaking, he closed his eyes and fell asleep. Yan's mother turned her head to look at her husband who was already asleep, and she was troubled for a while before closing her eyes again.

Yan Sisi returned to her room and looked at the schoolbag on the desk, then she remembered that she had not done today's homework yet. She took out her textbook and homework book and started writing frantically. She did not finish her homework until after eleven o'clock in the evening.

Doing a homework directly consumed all of her remaining energy. Yan Sisi rubbed her sleepy eyes, stood up and stretched, then put her homework and textbooks back into her schoolbag, then quickly climbed into bed, covered herself with the quilt, and fell asleep soon after.

The next morning, Yan Sisi was woken up by her mother again. After waking up, she felt her mind was very clear. The homework she wrote and the textbook content she read last night were still clearly remembered in her mind, unlike before when she could only remember half of the content after reading.

When did her memory become so good?

Yan Sisi looked at her wrist. The biggest change in her recently was her dreams and the wooden bracelet on her hand. Dreams definitely could not improve her memory, but the bracelet might have that possibility. She just didn't know if it was just her or if it would happen to everyone who ate the things grown in the space.

If it's the latter, I dare not even think about it.

"Sisi, we're almost late."

"Oh, I'm here." Yan Sisi came to her senses and picked up the schoolbag on the desk. The alarm clock on the desk had already pointed to seven:05. She was so scared that she picked up a fried dough stick and lunch box on the table and ran towards the school quickly.

Seeing her daughter in a hurry, Yan's mother hurried to the door and shouted, "I put food in the lunch box, don't forget it."

When Yan Sisi heard her mother's call, she just waved her hand and ate the fried dough stick in her hand while running. Her legs were too slow to run, so she had to go to Mr. Li's house when she had time to see if her bicycle had been repaired.

Yan Sisi finally rushed to the classroom as the bell rang, panting. She put her schoolbag into the drawer and couldn't help but take a breath and slow down for a while. She suppressed her pounding heart, took out her textbook and started morning reading with everyone else.

After finishing the morning reading, Yan Sisi took out the lunch box prepared by her mother. As soon as she opened it, a fragrant aroma wafted out. Four corn cobs of similar size were neatly placed inside.

Yan Sisi poked Jiang Siyue at the table in front of her, turned around, handed her lunch box over and asked, "Do you want to eat?"

When Jiang Siyue saw that it was yellow corn, she reached out and took one and took a bite. After eating, she did not forget to praise: "It's delicious. Where did you buy this corn? It's so delicious. I'm going to ask my mom to buy some too. This one is not enough. Give me another one."

After saying this, he reached out and took it again.

Yan Sisi slapped her hand back. Usually, classmate Wang Xiaohua took good care of them in their studies, so they couldn’t just eat by themselves without her.

Yan Sisi looked into Jiang Siyue's eyes and pointed at the corn again and again at her deskmate. Jiang Siyue instantly understood what Yan Sisi meant and swallowed the corn in her mouth with difficulty. She shook her head wildly and refused to speak no matter how Yan Sisi gestured.

Seeing this, Yan Sisi had no choice but to go out on her own. She took a deep breath and gently poked Jiang Siyue's deskmate Wang Xiaohua, and asked nervously, "Xiaohua, do you want some corn?"

Wang Xiaohua turned her head and glanced at him, then politely replied, "No, thank you, Yan."

After saying that, he turned around and continued studying.

Yan Sisi and Jiang Siyue looked at each other and did not dare to disturb her studies. You know, when she first entered school, she spoke a little loudly when she was chatting with Jiang Siyue, and was directly scolded by Wang Xiaohua. She brainwashed them crazily and told them to study hard, make progress every day, and not waste time.

From then on, she and Jiang Siyue didn't dare to speak loudly when Wang Xiaohua was around, for fear of disturbing Wang Xiaohua who was studying hard.

Seeing that Wang Xiaohua refused, Jiang Siyue quickly took another corn from the lunch box, smiled ingratiatingly at Yan Sisi, and turned around to eat.

Yan Sisi looked at the two remaining cigarettes in the lunch box, then turned around and suddenly met the eyes of her deskmate Wen Xuan. She asked tentatively, "Student Wen, do you want one?"

Wen Xuan smiled and said, "Okay."

Yan Sisi had avoided talking to her male deskmate before, and she never thought that he would actually ask for it. But the words had already been said, so she could only pass the lunch box over to him in full view of the other students in the class.

Wen Xuan raised his slender fingers and slowly took out a corn from the lunch box and ate it politely.

When Yan Sisi took the lunch box back, she felt a pair of piercing eyes staring at her. When she raised her head and looked outside, she saw nothing.

Yan Sisi looked away without paying any attention and began to nibble on the last cob of corn. The sweet smell of the corn attracted the classmates around her. Some older classmates looked at Yan Sisi and her classmates eating so happily and were too embarrassed to come over to ask. They could only hold back the saliva in their mouths and concentrate on their textbooks.

Soon the bell for class rang. Since the news of the resumption of the college entrance examination came out, the teachers in the school seemed to have become more energetic and serious in class. They basically did not allow anyone to be distracted in the classroom.

In order to prepare for next year's college entrance examination, the school has changed all the previous labor classes into cultural classes, just to avoid wasting a single minute on studying.

There are 45 students in their class, of which only 8 are girls. Most of the students are of different ages, and some are in their twenties and still attend classes. Basically, everyone goes to school to prepare for the college entrance examination, so everyone studies very hard, and the learning atmosphere of the whole class is very strong.

After lunch at noon, we took a break and used the break time to discuss the textbooks with each other. The whole class was filled with the sound of people reciting or discussing problems.

In the last class in the afternoon, math teacher Lu Bin stood on the podium and assigned Sunday homework in a serious voice. As the bell rang, the homework was completed.

When everyone heard the bell, they quickly packed their bags and went home in groups of three or four.

There are only five or six people in Yan Sisi's family building who study in this school, and they are all in different grades and classes, so Yan Sisi walks home alone every time.

On the way home this time, Yan Sisi had only been walking for a while when she felt footsteps following her. When she looked back, she could no longer see anyone.

Yan Sisi quickened her pace in fear and walked towards the crowded place, listening to the footsteps in the distance with her ears raised high. The footsteps this time sounded different from the last time. The last footsteps were heavier, but this time the footsteps were lighter. She couldn't tell if it was the same person.

Yan Sisi hid in the crowd and peeked back many times, but she didn't see the figure following her. She walked a long way before running back home in fear. As soon as she closed the door and turned around, she saw a tall figure, which scared her.

Seeing his daughter's reaction, Yan's father asked in confusion, "Does Dad look so scary? How could he scare you like this?"

Yan Sisi patted her chest to calm her pounding heart, and told her father about the two times she was followed. Her father frowned and said, "Starting next week, I will pick you up from school. I want to see who is following my daughter."

Yan Sisi wanted to catch the person and find out who was responsible, so he agreed with his father to meet up next Monday at the place where he heard the footsteps today. Then they would find out who it was after they caught the person.

Father Yan comforted his daughter and saw that her face was still a little pale, probably because she was frightened. He took her to the kitchen to look at the seeds he bought to distract her attention.

As soon as Yan Sisi entered the kitchen, she saw five or six bare sticks of varying sizes with roots and dirt on the ground. There was also a cloth bag on the far right. She turned around and looked at her father who was trying to take credit for it. She asked with difficulty, "Dad, are these the fruit seedlings you brought back?"

"Yes, what do you think? Not bad, look, this is a grape vine, this is a fig tree, and this is a peach tree." Father Yan pointed to the fruit seedlings on the ground and began to introduce their names to his daughter one by one.

Yan Sisi seriously suspected that her father had been deceived. Aren’t these just some sticks? How could they be fruit seedlings?
