Chapter 30 Pick Up

After finishing dinner, Yan Sisi picked up her schoolbag on the stool and turned back to her room silently.

Mother Yan looked at her unusually quiet daughter, then looked at her husband, "Isn't this a bad thing for us? Sisi doesn't look very happy."

Father Yan paused and said stubbornly, "Didn't you and I go through the same thing? When she grows up, she'll know we're doing this for her own good."

If she doesn't find someone to take care of her now, who will take care of her when they are gone? It's impossible for them to stay with her for the rest of her life.

Yan Sisi returned to the room, threw her schoolbag onto the table, took off her coat, opened her arms, and fell straight onto the bed. She relaxed her whole body on the soft bed, and completely relaxed.

Yan Sisi closed her eyes and breathed in and out, recalling everything that happened today. Everything seemed so new. When she thought of Gu Jingping, a smile appeared on her face that she didn't even notice. When she thought of Xu Weiming, she pounded the bed with a frown on her face. She was really mad at him for saying that to her. All her previous feelings and emotions were gone.

Yan Sisi tossed and turned in bed, unable to calm down, so she could only run into the space. Some of the plants that had been planted earlier had already matured.

Yan Sisi squatted in a grid marked with red beans, looking at the long bean pods hanging from it. They had already begun to turn slightly brown. She picked a pod and peeled out the fruit inside. The bright red beans had a slight sheen and a white section on the side. They looked very appetizing.

Yan Sisi took out all the red beans from the bean pods and put them in a basket. Then she began to use her consciousness to pick the red bean pods one by one. The bean pods fell quickly into the basket. The vines with all the red bean pods picked turned into green smoke and floated away. An almost empty space was revealed. When her head started to hurt, she stopped using her consciousness and picked the red bean pods manually. In the end, she picked two whole baskets of bean pods before she finished picking all the red beans in the grid.

After working, Yan Sisi felt so tired that she couldn't lift her arms. She drank some diluted spiritual spring water and then took the basket and the spiritual spring water to the kitchen. She added the spiritual spring water into the bucket and put the basket on the ground opposite the door so that her mother would be able to see it when she came in tomorrow.

After finishing everything, Yan Sisi climbed onto the bed and fell asleep.

The next day, Yan Sisi was woken up by her mother, "Sisi, the waiter is already downstairs, why don't you get up?"

When Yan Sisi heard the voice, she covered her head with her hands and hid in the warm quilt, not wanting to go out. She stayed in bed for a while before finally climbing up with difficulty. She glanced at Gu Jingping who was standing downstairs, and quickly packed herself and her schoolbag.

Yan Sisi looked at the soy milk and fried dough sticks on the table, picked one up and started eating, then asked her mother who had come out, "Mom, did you see the red beans I put in the kitchen yesterday?"

Mother Yan said, "Well, I didn't expect them to be cooked so quickly. I'll peel them out and put them in the sun later, and make some red bean paste buns for you in a few days."

It turns out that the immortal's space is different. It has only been a short time and the red beans are already cooked. It is really amazing.

Yan Sisi was thinking about Gu Jingping who had been waiting downstairs for who knows how long, so she didn't even bother to have breakfast and just walked out with her schoolbag.

When she walked across from Gu Jingping, she saw a neighbor curiously asking Gu Jingping, "Young man, who are you looking for?"

Gu Jingping looked up and saw Yan Sisi coming over. He smiled and said, "The person I'm waiting for is here."

After saying that, he pushed his bicycle towards Yan Sisi and took the schoolbag from her. Yan Sisi met the look of her neighbor and smiled awkwardly, saying, "Auntie Mao, come out and buy breakfast."

Auntie Mao took over the conversation and said, "Hey, Sisi, you guys went out so early in the morning."

Yan Sisi said with a stiff face, "Auntie Mao, we're leaving now because we have something to do."

After saying that, she quickly turned around and looked at Gu Jingping, signaling him with her eyes to leave quickly, as she would not be able to hold on any longer.

Gu Jingping smiled, straddled the bike, took out a small item from his pocket and handed it to Yan Sisi.

Yan Sisi felt warm the moment she took it in her hands. A wave of heat transferred from the small thing to her palms. It turned out to be a hand warmer wrapped in cloth. The small hand warmer seemed to warm her heart as well. Was it true that no one except her parents had ever cared about her so much?

Yan Sisi met Gu Jingping's eyes and couldn't help but blush. She whispered, "Thank you."

Then, holding the hand warmer, he carefully sat on the back seat of the bicycle.

Gu Jingping and others sat down and stepped on the bicycle, and it started moving.

Yan Sisi had not ridden the bicycle for a short distance when she heard Xu Weiming's voice from behind: "Sisi, where are you going?"

Yan Sisi looked back and saw that it was Xu Weiming again. She quickly turned her head and pretended not to hear anything. She said to Gu Jingping who was riding a bicycle in front of her: "Hurry up, don't let him catch up."

Gu Jingping pedaled hard on the bike and it slid a long way. Soon he was thrown far away. Yan Sisi held on to the back seat tightly and shouted to Gu Jingping in front of her: "Have you had breakfast?"

Gu Jingping turned his head to look at her, then slowed down and replied, "I haven't eaten yet, how about you?"

Yan Sisi, "I haven't eaten either, let's go have breakfast!"

She got up so early, how could she have time to eat breakfast? Her stomach was already rumbling.

Gu Jingping nodded, turned the bicycle in another direction, and soon stopped in front of an old house.

Yan Sisi got off the bike and looked at the house in front of her. There were scratches everywhere. A piece was missing here or there, and there were many traces of repairs. Weren't they going to have dinner? What were they doing here?

Yan Sisi turned her head and looked at Gu Jingping curiously. Gu Jingping parked the car, picked up his schoolbag, smiled at her mysteriously, bent his fingers and knocked on the wooden door three times. After a while, someone opened the door from the inside.

A middle-aged, slightly fat uncle first peeked through the crack of the wooden door. When he saw Gu Jingping standing outside, he opened the door and said with a smile, "Little Gu, how come you have time to come today?"

"Bring a friend to have breakfast, Uncle Jiang, you can cook something." Gu Jingping led Yan Sisi inside as if they were familiar with the place. They walked through the obviously trimmed courtyard and came to a room on the far right. When they opened the door, they saw a small dark red round table inside, an unknown landscape painting hanging on the wall, and some evergreen plants planted in the corner.

Yan Sisi looked at this place in surprise. It was the first time she knew there was such a place in the county town. Gu Jingping closed the door and explained, "Uncle Jiang used to be a chef at home. Recently, the market is not as tight as before, so he came out to take on some work to support his family."

Yan Sisi sat on the stool, glanced at him and said deliberately: "You brought me here, aren't you afraid that I will report you?"

Although the wind has loosened a bit, we still can't prevent people from reporting us!

Gu Jingping poured a glass of water and handed it over, then asked, "Will you go?"

Yan Sisi met his eyes and turned away involuntarily. Gu Jingping smiled softly and said, "Even if someone reports it, not everyone can arrest the person. After all, no one dares to come out without confidence."

Upon hearing this, Yan Sisi simply lowered her head and moved her hands that had just been frozen. She used the hand warmer for a while before she felt much warmer. The warm tea tasted a little bitter when she drank it.

Yan Sisi took a few sips and stopped drinking. The two of them sat quietly in the room. After a while, a thin boy who looked only in his teens came over with two small steamers. After putting them down, he left quietly.

Gu Jingping opened the lid of the steamer, revealing the small buns inside, then placed the opened steamer on the table and pushed it to Yan Sisi.

Yan Sisi picked up the chopsticks beside her, picked up one and carefully bit a small hole in it. The rich soup immediately flowed into her mouth, with the taste of meat mixed with a hint of mushrooms.

If you eat it carefully, you can taste the crispy flavor of bamboo shoots. I don’t know how it is made, but the whole bun tastes particularly fresh and delicious.

Yan Sisi ate one and didn't stop. During this time, the little boy brought four tea leaf eggs, two plates of fried vegetable dumplings, and two bowls of meat porridge. The whole small round table was filled in an instant.

Yan Sisi looked at the table full of breakfast and said, "This is too much, there won't be more!"

Gu Jingping picked up a tea leaf egg and started to peel it, saying to her, "It's okay, if you can't finish it, I'll take care of it for you."

Yan Sisi looked at the table full of breakfast. She couldn't waste it so she had to eat it. In the end, she ate half a plate of dumplings, a bowl of meat porridge and a peeled tea egg.

Yan Sisi couldn't believe that she could actually eat so much. Until she really couldn't eat any more, she said to Gu Jingping, "No, I can't eat any more."

Gu Jingping had almost finished his portion. Upon hearing what she said, he took all the unfinished food in front of her and continued eating.

After finishing the meal, Yan Sisi remembered to bring extra money this time. When she was about to pay the bill, Gu Jingping pushed her out and said to the little boy who came over to clean the table, "Xiaonan, tell your dad to put it on the bill."

Xiaonan nodded and glanced at Yan Sisi curiously. When she looked at him, he shyly lowered his head and started to clean up the dishes on the table.

Yan Sisi was pushed out the door and didn't even see the uncle who opened the door for them. She put her wallet away and made up her mind to pay back the money for lunch, otherwise she would feel like she was eating and drinking for free.

After breakfast, the two went to the library to start one-on-one teaching. Yan Sisi took the lead in paying for lunch and continued studying in the afternoon. The whole day was spent on studying.

As night was about to fall, Gu Jingping sent Yan Sisi downstairs to the family compound, looked at her quietly and said, "I have to go out in a few days, and I may not be able to come for a few days."

Yan Sisi was stunned. Why did these words sound like he was reporting his whereabouts to her again? She was too embarrassed to say anything so she could only nod to show that she understood. Then she picked up the hand warmer that had long gone cold and handed it over.

Gu Jingping pushed the hand warmer back and said, "I bought this myself. The weather is too cold. You can keep it for now. I, a grown man, don't need it."

Yan Sisi couldn't just take someone else's things for free, so she asked, "How much? I'll give it to you."

Gu Jingping collapsed on his bicycle, leaving only one sentence: "No, I like it and give it to you, just keep it! I'm leaving first, see you in a few days."

After saying this, the man rode away on his bike.

Yan Sisi carried her schoolbag and held a hand warmer until she was out of sight before turning around and going home.
