Chapter 35: Wake up from greed

Don't think about it anymore. Things like this are determined by fate and cannot be forced. If you interfere too much, the many side effects will reflect on Yin Yang himself.

Liang Qi was carrying two pounds of cornmeal in a cloth bag, with four yuan in his pocket. The money was not even warm yet, and he had to take it out of his pocket in the afternoon.

There were a few rotten potatoes in the basket that I hadn’t taken out yet, so I had to go back quickly. I thought, I’m going home with big strides as fast as the wind.

When Liang Qi got home, he found the courtyard quiet, thinking everyone was resting.

Liang Qi was thinking about the potatoes and the cornmeal in the bowl. He had food to eat for the next few days, but what should he do in the future? He had to wait until all the potatoes were dug and the public grain tax was paid before he could officially distribute the food.

There are definitely not many this year. Liang Qi has only recently started to work hard. I came here just to dig potatoes. Even if I get full work points, it cannot equal the previous work points.

I was also a little anxious about how to get some food, and how to pay back the food coupons and money. My family was really poor.

Hearing everyone in the village talk about how well-off Liang Qi's family was, Liang Qi looked at everything in the yard and thought, "This is it, good?" Who knew it was just an empty shell? Poverty left only the people. The family had nothing else. Making money to exchange for food was the main task now and in the future, otherwise they would starve to death next year.

Liang Qi sighed and picked up a few rotten potatoes from the basket. These were quite big, but it was not a pity. It was still a pleasure to eat some fresh potatoes.

Pick up the things, scoop a ladle of water from the tank, pour it into the basin, and wash it clean.

He took out half a large piece of potato and cut it into small strips without even peeling it. Liang Qi put the cut potato strips in a small iron basin. There was no cooking oil at home, so he grabbed a handful of harvested cornmeal and put it in, added some finely ground peppercorns, and poured in some salt water.

The salt I bought came in large chunks, just like the modern rock sugar cubes, with mud inside. I could only roll it into small particles with a rolling pin, put it in a bowl, soak it in water, let it settle, and filter out the mud.

Otherwise, if you put it in without any preparation, there will be a smell of mud when you eat.

Liang Qi mixed the potato strips in the bowl, placed them on the chopping board, picked up the matchbox, rubbed it on the sandpaper on the side of the box, and a popping flame appeared.

After adding a few pieces of firewood to the stove and trying it out, the pot began to heat up. Liang Qi stood up and picked up the spatula.

There was still some oil residue from yesterday in the small earthenware jar.

Liang Qi considered it over and over again and decided to just add a little bit and brush the pan, as long as it doesn't stick.

I just scraped a little bit from the inside, really just a little bit, and once it was eaten, it was really gone. It was only a few months ago, and there were still two months before the pig was slaughtered. The lard residue, which was as big as the beautiful child's fist, was really gone after it was eaten.

After scraping, Liang Qi used potato strips to brush the lard residue in the pot, and quickly poured all the cut potato strips in the basin into the pot, otherwise such a little oil would be burned dry, which would be wasted.

Liang Qi used a spatula to spread the potatoes in the pot a little thinner, and spread them on the brushed areas of the pot, so that nothing would be wasted. He thought about how he used to throw away the potatoes that he couldn't finish.

Now think about it, in this era, those are all very precious.

While spinning the vegetable pancakes in the pot, I was thinking about other things.

At noon, there was a fragrant smell in the yard. The two people who were sleeping soundly were woken up by their greed. They had eaten steamed potatoes at noon, and now they smelled the oil, which made them even more greedy.

"Agui, what is that? It smells so good!" Fenghuang turned over and sat up.

"Maybe someone else is cooking. Let's go to bed. Grandma Agui will make you something delicious at night." Zhang Guishu swallowed her saliva greedily as she looked at the child.

I feel a little sorry for the child. He is so young, and Liu Zhenhe is such a bad guy.

"Okay, thank you grandma." Fenghuang called grandma directly without the preceding word. Although she was small, she knew who was kind to them and she remembered them all.

"You're welcome," Zhang Guishu watched the child lying down obediently. Although his eyes were closed, his nose was smelling the fragrance vigorously.

She also sniffed it hard. It had been a long time since she smelled such a fragrant scent.

Both the grandmother and the grandson closed their eyes and smelled the fragrance.

Liang Qi in the kitchen was also sniffing hard. She hadn't had a proper meal in a while. She had only eaten potatoes in the past few days and hadn't seen a handful of noodles.

Today I finally got to eat potato pancakes with flour.

Listening to the sizzling sound of water dripping into the pot, the fragrance wafted out of the pot and out of the kitchen.

The Liu family who lived nearby could smell it. They hadn't smelled such a fragrant scent for a long time.

Liang Qi saw that it was almost cooked, so he opened the pot. The pancakes inside, mixed with cornmeal, gave off a sweet aroma.

It looks very good, with less flour and more potatoes. The pancakes are crystal clear and smell so good!

After it was taken out of the pot, Liang Qi used a spatula to transfer it to the chopping board. The pot was so clean that it seemed like it could be used without washing.

Finally, use a knife to cut the cornmeal vegetable pancake into rice shapes, and then place it on a broken plate with a large gap in it. This is the only plate I have at home.

Liang Qi carried the plate of pancakes to the upper room. The old man and the child opened their eyes when they heard the sound.

"Mom, do you smell that nice smell?" Fenghuang said while lying on the kang and looking at the ceiling.

"I smell it. It's in mom's hand."

Liang Qi felt a little bitter when he heard the envy in the child's voice. There was nothing he could do about it; this was the way the world was.

"Really?" The child rolled over and got up.

"Grandma, look, mom is holding some delicious food in her hand," she said, pulling Zhang Guishu's skinny hand.

"Aunt Agui, have some pancakes. I made corn, potato and vegetable pancakes." Liang Qi brought the food, picked up the kang table on the ground and put it next to the kang, then put the food on it.

"Wow, mom, it looks so delicious. Mom and grandma, you eat first." As soon as the child said this, saliva flowed from the corners of his mouth. Although he was very greedy, he did not forget what his mother said.

"Aunt Agui, please eat," Liang Qi said to the old woman.

"Thank you, I'll just have a small piece," Zhang Guishu also knew that every family was very poor, so she picked up a piece and put it in her mouth. The sweet fragrance spread in her mouth, and the delicious taste on her taste buds was really fragrant, which increased her appetite. She savored it slowly in her mouth, and was reluctant to finish it so quickly.

"Aunt Agui, just eat as much as you want," Liang Qi watched the old woman savoring the food slowly.

"Mom, here's a piece for you, eat it," the child picked up a piece and stuffed it into Liang Qi's mouth.

"Okay, Mommy eats, and you eat too."

"Hmm, it smells so good." Fenghuang also imitated her grandmother and tasted the food slowly. Although she was not very hungry, she couldn't swallow such delicious food without tasting it.

"Qi Qi, why are the things you cook so delicious?" Zhang Guishu took a bite and swallowed it slowly. She was old and most of her teeth had fallen out, so she could only bite the food slowly with the few teeth she had left.
