Next, Chen Qiangwei and Wang Xiaomai did not go out for a walk, but stayed by the ox cart and waited for others to come back. The commune was so small that they could basically visit the entire commune by visiting the post office, the state-owned restaurant, and the supply and marketing cooperative.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, everyone came back and looked at the packages in the ox cart in amazement.
Jia Zhenzhen swallowed, "Comrade Chen Qiangwei, are these all yours?"
Her family was well off and treated her well, receiving a subsidy every month, but it was a far cry from what Chen Qiangwei received today.
Others also looked at Chen Qiangwei with envy. Having such relatives is a hundred times better than having inactive parents.
Chen Qiangwei nodded and repeated what she had said to Uncle Gu Wu, "Yes, these are all things we use in daily life."
This explanation made Jia Zhenzhen and the others feel a little better, but they still couldn't help but look at the package from time to time.
Gu Linger's eyes widened as well. "Chen Zhiqing, your family really loves you. I've never seen a family love their daughter so much in my life." After saying that, she nudged Liang Xiaoman with her elbow. "Xiaoman, right?"
Her parents are pretty good to her, so she doesn't have to work when they are not busy.
She was the only one in the Huaihua Brigade, but her parents were reluctant to buy her so many things. A new set of clothes every two years was already the limit.
Liang Xiaoman shifted his gaze away from Chen Qiangwei's package and curled his lips: "Yes."
There was no other relative as wealthy as Chen Zhiqing in the entire commune. Liang Xiaoman felt a growing sense of crisis.
Liang Xiaoman glanced at Wang Xiaomai's backpack and said, "Wang Zhiqing, did you go see Sister Guihua? Is she okay now?"
In the past, Liang Xiaoman and Gu Linger would definitely go to the supply and marketing cooperative to find Gu Guihua first. Gu Guihua would be very happy to receive the things from Gu Sannai and would always give them some benefits.
Because of Chen Qiangwei, Gu Linger angrily went to her eldest brother as soon as she got off the ox cart today. Liang Xiaoman also followed her. In order to coax Gu Linger back, he also promised to buy her a box of snow cream for fifty cents next time he went to the city.
However, before meeting Snow Cream, Gu Linger's attitude towards her was far less friendly than before.
Liang Xiaoman dislikes Chen Qiangwei, who caused her to lose fifty cents, and she also has a grudge against Wang Xiaomai, who gets along well with Chen Qiangwei.
Wang Xiaomai didn't understand Liang Xiaoman's implication. "Sister Guihua is very kind. She even asked us to bring something back to Third Grandma."
Gu Linger snorted coldly when she heard this, "You guys are still planning, what good things did Sister Guihua give you?"
Chen Qiangwei took out the two candies given by Gu Guihua, stuffed one into Wang Xiaomai's mouth, peeled off the outer shell of the remaining one and put it into her mouth.
"Here, this is the good stuff Sister Osmanthus gave me. It's so sweet!"
Gu Linger rolled her eyes at Chen Qiangwei, "You're so short-sighted. Sister Guihua has given me so many good things."
Chen Qiangwei smiled and glanced at Liang Xiaoman, "Yes, I also gave you a red hairband."
Gu Linger's face changed again when she looked at the red hairband on Liang Xiaoman's head.
Liang Xiaoman: ...We can’t get over this red hairband joke?
Huang Meixia hugged her knees and pretended to sleep, but she was actually listening to Chen Qiangwei and Liang Xiaoman fighting wits and courage. She almost laughed when she heard Chen Qiangwei mentioned the red hairband again.
At six o'clock in the evening, several people returned to Huaihua Brigade. Because Chen Qiangwei had a lot of luggage, she asked Uncle Gu Wu to help take it to Third Grandma's house.
The aunts and children of Huaihua Brigade were sitting in the threshing ground next to the brigade headquarters, chatting casually and looking towards the village entrance from time to time.
They were accustomed to the educated youth going to the commune to pick up packages on their days off, but this time Chen Qiangwei went with five package lists. Everyone was curious about what her relatives had sent her and whether there were many things.
So even though it was time for dinner, no one went back to cook. Judging from the time, they would be back soon.
"They're back! Chen Zhiqing and the others are back."
The children couldn't stand the loneliness and had been squatting at the village entrance for a long time. As soon as they saw Uncle Gu Wu driving the ox cart back, some of the children ran to the threshing ground to report the news.
For a moment, everyone stopped chatting and stretched their necks to look.
After a while, Uncle Gu Wu's ox cart finally arrived.
Well, first it was Wei Zhiqing and Han Zhiqing. Both of them were carrying packages of medium size. Judging from the shape and the weight, they definitely contained malted milk.
Wow, the educated youth from Beijing are different, their families are wealthy.
Next up were Huang Meixia and the other three veteran educated youth. Well, they'd already gone to the post office to pick up a package on their last day off, and they hadn't brought anything back yet. They must have gone to the state-owned restaurant to get a better meal. Don't ask them how they knew; those who knew knew.
Tsk tsk tsk, their children can only eat white rice a few times a year. These educated youth just don’t know how to save. They spend any money they have.
Next are Gu Linger from the captain's family and Liang Xiaoman from the deputy captain's family. Gu Linger is holding canned food in her arms. It's different to have a brother or sister-in-law who works in a cannery. There are always two or three times a year when you can have some sweet time.
But there seemed to be something amiss with these two girls. Could they be bickering or arguing? The gossipy hearts of the aunts and sisters were burning.
Finally, why don't Chen Zhiqing and Wang Zhiqing get off the bus?
Everyone focused their attention on Chen Qiangwei and Wang Xiaomai. They realized there were five packages on the ox cart—one, two, three, four, five! Oh my god, five packages in total! Three of them were bigger than Goudan, Maodan, and the others.
Others looked at what everyone got off the car and took, and then commented on it in their minds. However, Widow Zhou had a clear goal and went straight to the ox cart. She lay on the ox cart and drooled greedily at the several large packages.
