Being busy with work made her forget a lot of unpleasant things.
After work in the afternoon, she turned to the area on the mountain where there were many trees and picked a lot of wild magnolia jelly fruits to take home.
Back home, she scooped out the jelly seeds from the fruit, dried them, and then tied them up in a cloth bag. She then filled a basin with clean, cold water and rubbed the jelly seeds vigorously until all the juice came out. She then left them to dry. Soon, she had jelly to eat.
While there was still some time, she went to tidy up the private plot in the yard. Not long after, Shitou came back from herding the sheep with a smile on his face and went up to help with the work.
"Shi Tou, go sit aside."
She had been a little worried about how Shitou would get along with the other kids in the village, but now it seemed like he was doing well. It seemed like Shitou could make friends on his own without her help.
Shitou was reluctant: "I want to work with my sister."

The brother and sister chatted while they worked. When the time was almost up and the jelly in the wooden basin was ready, they went back to fry a large plate of garlic, chili and shepherd's purse to eat with the jelly. The jelly was added with chili soy sauce and garlic, and it was ice cold and very delicious!
"Sister, this is so delicious!" Shitou's mouth was so full from eating that he couldn't stop.
He feels so happy to be with his sister, as he can always eat delicious food!
After the meal, Zhang Xingrong gave Shitou another bowl of chicken soup before clearing the dishes.
After they cleaned up the dishes, they took the remaining ice jelly to Luo Darong's house.
Luo Darong and his family had just finished dinner, a meal of corn bran porridge with some homegrown mustard greens. It wasn't a large portion, but each person had a bowl, along with the vegetables, which was enough to fill them up to about 50%.
