The pheasant struggled desperately, trying to escape Liu Lu's grasp.
"Hehehehe," Liu Lu burst out laughing.
The pheasant flapped its wings a few times before collapsing to the ground, barely alive. Liu Lu tossed the pheasant to Liu Bei.
"Beibei, pack the chicken up. Today's auspicious start; we expect a big harvest."
Liu Bei happily agreed and deftly put the pheasant into the bamboo basket.
Liu Lu turned around and crept into the bushes following the direction the pheasant had flown from.
"Haha, what great luck!" Liu Lu waved at Liu Bei, still holding two wild eggs in her hand.
Liu Bei ran over excitedly, picked up the wild eggs, and put them in her basket.
"Mom, are there any wild eggs left?" Liu Bei craned her neck to look at the bushes.
"And another one, and another one." Liu Lu chuckled and reached into the pheasant nest again, pulling out a few more eggs. After taking them all out, she counted them and found there were a total of 8 wild eggs.
After collecting the wild eggs, the two of them shouldered their baskets and headed into the deep mountains.
Although there have been no reports of large wild animals coming down the mountain in recent years, there were indeed rumors that wild boars and tigers lived on the mountain.
Liu Lu didn't dare to be greedy or act rashly, so she led Liu Lu and Liu Bei to wander around in the woods halfway up the mountain.
"Huh?" Liu Lu exclaimed, tilted her ear to listen for a while, and then looked back at Liu Bei.
"Beibei, did you hear anything?"
Liu Bei also tilted her head and listened for a while.
"Is it the sound of the wind that you can't quite make out?" Liu Bei looked at Liu Lu with some confusion.
Liu Lu shook her head and squinted her eyes. It was a human voice, as if someone was calling for help.
Liu Lu took off the basket from her back and handed it to Liu Bei.
"Beibei, we're not far from the foot of the mountain. Just stand here and don't move. If anything happens, shout for Mom. If there's danger, just run down the mountain."
"I'll go up and take a look."
Liu Bei clenched her fists tightly. "Mom, be careful. If it gets too dangerous, we'll just have to go down the mountain."
"I know, I'll be back soon." Patting Liu Bei's head, Liu Lu smiled reassuringly, touched the dagger on her body, and turned to walk in the direction from which the sound came.
The journey is not very long, and the distance is not very far.
Liu Lu walked over and realized why the voice was so faint.
This is a middle-aged man who was seriously injured.
He is now clearly conscious, but his throat is dry and hoarse.
He shouted for help, but to Liu Lu it sounded like he was humming softly.
Liu Lu cautiously looked around and found no large animals or traces of other people before she went forward to take a look.
The person did not have any serious external injuries, but had many scratches.
Liu Lu took a look. She knew the slope of the nearby woods well; most likely, the person had rolled down the mountain and might have suffered internal injuries.
Liu Lu pressed on his body and found that he had several broken ribs.
Liu Lu dared not move you easily in this situation. He glanced at the anxious man and said, "Wait a moment, I'll go down the mountain to get someone. I can't move you down the mountain in your condition, lest your ribs pierce your internal organs."
The man nodded reluctantly, indicating his agreement.
"Don't worry, I run very fast. It won't take long to go up and down the mountain. You can rest now and don't need to call for help anymore. Save your energy."
After saying that, Liu Lu turned around and ran down the mountain.
From afar, I could see Liu Bei standing on the mountainside, looking around.
"Beibei, come with Mommy. Someone on the mountain is seriously injured. Let's go down the mountain and find someone to help."
Liu Lu slung her basket over her shoulder, grabbed Liu Bei's hand, and hurried down the mountain to find the village chief.
Upon hearing this, the village chief gathered the village doctor and several strong villagers to accompany Liu Lu and her daughter up the mountain to rescue them.
Liu Lu has a good memory and led the group back along the path down the mountain.
By the time they had made their round trip, the sun was almost setting when they finally found their way back to the man.
The person was now in a state of barely breathing and exhaling more than they were inhaling.
The accompanying doctor stepped forward to examine him and nodded to the village chief: "Liu Lu is right, he has several broken ribs and cannot be moved haphazardly. I will first use branches to tie his body together, and then we will move him little by little down the mountain. He is very weak now, so we must be careful."
The village chief walked in, took a look, confirmed that the person was not from the village, nodded and said, "Okay, let's be careful, and then take him directly to the clinic."
After the doctor finished bandaging the man's body, several young men carefully lifted him onto a stretcher.
The village chief looked at Liu Lu and said, "Come with me, we'll take you down."
Liu Lu nodded, took Liu Bei's hand, and followed the villagers down the mountain step by step. When they reached the foot of the mountain, they said goodbye to the village chief and the others, and returned to their own home.
The mother and daughter cleaned up at home, ate dinner, washed up, and then went to sleep peacefully.
The next morning.
After breakfast, Liu Lu took Liu Bei to the village chief's house.
Seeing Liu Lu arrive, the village chief showed no surprise, simply greeted her, and then said, "The person who was rescued yesterday isn't from this village. Come with me to the village clinic."
After saying that, he led the way, followed by Liu Lu and her daughter. The three of them, one in front and one behind, soon arrived at the village clinic.
The doctor looked at the three of them and said, "His ribs are fractured and have been immobilized with multiple chest bandages. He has no other symptoms and just needs to wait for the ribs to heal."
"He's staying at the clinic right now. You should go and see him. You can also ask if any of his family members are coming to pick him up."
After the doctor finished speaking, he went to see other patients.
The village chief and Liu Lu went into the inner room and saw the middle-aged man lying on the bed drinking medicine.
After seeing the village chief and Liu Lu, the middle-aged man gulped down his medicine, put down the bowl, and smiled at them, saying, "My name is Zhang Yuan. Thank you both for saving my life."
"Hmm," the village chief said without any formality, "you're not from this village, where is your home?"
Zhang Yuan gave a wry smile: "To be honest, village chief, I am not from this village. I live in the town. I had business in the village this time, and I thought it was too far to take the winding mountain road, so I wanted to climb over the mountain. But the mountain was steep, and I slipped and rolled down the mountain, breaking my bones."
The village chief asked, "Can we notify your family in town to come and take care of you or pick you up and take you home?"
Zhang Yuan nodded repeatedly: "Sure, sure. My wife and mother are at home. Can you take me back? Don't worry, village chief, I'll pay for it."
The village chief considered it for a moment and nodded: "Okay, give me the address. I'll send someone to your house to let you know first, and then I'll take you back so your family can be prepared."
Zhang Yuan thanked him repeatedly, but the village chief waved his hand and said, "Don't mention it. Everyone encounters difficulties when they're away from home."
