After lunch, Cheng Maixiang and Yingying returned to the room to rehearse.
This time, the two did not just sit on the bed and rehearse their lines, but performed according to the live show, prepared props, and performed.
Fortunately, this children's play has simple requirements for scene props. It is set in a farmer's home in the countryside. Cheng Maixiang uses the desk as a stove, takes out one of Yingying's toys, temporarily uses it as a bamboo shoot, and places it at the foot of the table.
Cheng Maixiang put the chair in the middle of the room again and said to Yingying, "Yingying, this side of the chair is the main room, and that side of the desk is the kitchen. Our three-act play will proceed from the main room to the kitchen, then back to the main room, back to the kitchen, and finally to the production team. Do you remember this?"
Yingying nodded. She had memorized the script by heart and remembered every scene very clearly, so there was naturally no confusion.
So the two began to perform live. After each show, Cheng Maixiang discovered that Yingying did not know how to use body language to express the character's personality. In other words, she did not know how to act. Throughout the three-act performance, except for stopping Xiaogang, played by Cheng Maixiang, from pulling out bamboo shoots, she just stood straight and recited her lines.
It was obvious that Yingying also realized her problem, and as soon as it was over, she pestered Cheng Maixiang for how to improve it.
Cheng Maixiang discovered that Yingying had a strong interest in acting. Perhaps because she was usually a little shy, she was very willing to show herself through roles.
"It's actually very simple, Yingying. Do you think Xiaokui's personality is similar to Qiaomai's?"
Yingying thought about it carefully. "Likely, but not quite. If it were her, she would take her brother to pull out the bamboo shoots and send them directly to the production team. She wouldn't lecture him on so many big principles."
"Then can you imagine what it's like when she preaches?" Cheng Maixiang continued to guide.
Yingying tilted her head and thought for a long while. She was so familiar with Qiaomai that her every move seemed to be right before her eyes. After thinking for a moment, she smiled and said, "She would press her brother down on the chair and force him to listen to her."
"Have you ever thought about trying to play Xiaokui like Soba?"
Yingying's eyes lit up, as if she was in a thick fog, and suddenly a ray of sunlight shone in, and the fog was quickly dispelled.
"Yeah." Yingying nodded heavily.
What a smart kid.
Performances are originally based on real people or things. Through secondary creation of the script, the characters are given unique life and soul, allowing the audience to empathize with them, which is what later generations often call a sense of substitution.
She read the script and found that several characters in the script were stereotyped, with dry personalities and no characteristics of their own. She wanted Yingying to make the character of Xiaokui fuller and more flesh-and-blood through her own creation.
Inspired by Cheng Maixiang, this performance was many times better than the last one. Yingying was much more vivid in both language and actions. She seemed to have completely entered the role of Xiaokui. She showed her love for her brother and her disappointment in his performance, as well as her respect for her grandmother and her refusal to compromise on key issues.
Especially at the end, when she took her brother to the production team to hand over bamboo shoots, her determination and pride in protecting collective property were beyond words.
As soon as the performance was over, Cheng Maixiang couldn't help but applaud, "Yingying, you're amazing! You're a natural born actor!"
Yingying seemed stunned for a long time before she reacted. She knew she had performed well this time, but she felt a little embarrassed to hear Cheng Maixiang's undisguised praise. She whispered, "It's my aunt who taught me well."
Cheng Maixiang was indeed a good teacher. This was the first time that Yingying played a role in her life. Cheng Maixiang seemed to have opened a crack in the door to the performing arts hall for her, allowing her to glimpse the wonderful world of performing arts for the first time.
Many years later, she became a well-known actress in the country, and even won numerous awards for her superb acting skills. Many times when she gave thank-you speeches, she would mention her first performance in her life, so her fans are all familiar with this part of her history.
The two of them rehearsed until three o'clock in the afternoon. Lin Jiayu came upstairs and knocked on the door, wanting to take Cheng Maixiang home. It was then that the rehearsal ended.
Yingying held Cheng Maixiang's hand reluctantly and kept begging Lin Jiayu to stay until dinner before going home.
Wei Lingcheng smiled, "Our Yingying is very close to her uncle and aunt. If I were to go out to do something now, she wouldn't stop me."
There was still work to do when she got home in the afternoon, so Cheng Maixiang didn't want to stay long. Besides, Yingying was tired after rehearsing the play all day and needed to rest.
"Yingying, there are still four days left. I'll come rehearse with you when I have time. What do you think?"
"Okay." Yingying agreed loudly, which scared Wei Lingcheng and Lin Qingwan.
Cheng Maixiang smiled and said to Wei Lingcheng, "Brother-in-law, I've noticed that Yingying is very talented in performing arts. If possible, I suggest that in addition to piano, we hire a dance teacher to teach her how to dance. This will not only help her exercise her body, but also help her develop her manners."
She did not suggest that Wei Lingcheng hire an acting teacher.
Firstly, Yingying is too young and has no idea what her future path will be. If acting is just a temporary interest for her and she dislikes it as she grows older, then learning acting now is a pure waste of time. It would be better to let her have fun.
Secondly, Yingying started learning acting too early, and she may not be able to distinguish the difference between performance and reality. If she unconsciously lives her life in a performance-based way all day long, it will be detrimental to her growth.
On the contrary, learning dance is beneficial. It is a workout for Yingying's body and can also cultivate her temperament. In her previous life, she particularly liked girls who had learned dance, especially folk dance. She felt that they had upright postures, gentle temperaments, and their every move was different from ordinary people.
