Chapter 35 High School Registration

Cheng Maixiang suddenly remembered something. "Ladies and gentlemen, the contract states that if you quit for personal reasons, you need to inform the garment factory one month in advance. However, if there is an emergency and you can't stay for a month, you can tell me three days in advance. I will pay you your salary when you leave."

This was the last thing people paid attention to. They all said, "It's such a great place. I'm planning to retire here. If I quit my job, where can I find such a good job?"

"That's right. After signing this contract, we'll become contract workers in the city. No, it's better than contract workers. I'm not leaving anyway."

Seeing everyone's excitement, Cheng Maixiang smiled and said, "If you aunties have no objection, then we can sign the contract. After signing, I will ask the brigade to stamp it and give one copy to each of you for safekeeping."

"Okay, okay, sign quickly. We still have work to do after signing."

Everyone was very enthusiastic and rushed to sign in the place designated by Cheng Maixiang. Those who could not read directly put their fingerprints on it, and even Cheng Dasao put her fingerprints on the contract.

Most of the country people are honest and kind. If others respect them a little, they will respect them ten feet. Cheng Maixiang took out such a contract to protect their interests, and they also burst out with high enthusiasm for work. They all buried their heads in work and almost forgot about the morning chat.

In the afternoon, Cheng Maixiang returned the stamped contract to them. Although most of them were illiterate, they all recognized the brigade's seal. Originally, it was just the signatures and fingerprints of both parties, and there was still some uncertainty. Now that they had the official seal, they felt more at ease and reassured.

"They call themselves contract workers?"

Lin Jiayu asked curiously and amusedly.

"Of course I did. I never thought these women would praise the contract I gave them as the best in the world, saying it was better than the workers' pay in the city. Everyone in the village is envious. Now so many people are asking my mom if they can get a job in the garment factory. She's embarrassed because there aren't any positions available."

Cheng Maixiang said half complaining and half proudly.

"However, your contract is indeed good, better than any other contract in our county. At least in our county, factories don't offer compensation for layoffs. If a factory can't continue operating, they're lucky to be able to pay the workers' wages. There's no need to pay compensation."

Cheng Maixiang smiled and said, "That's different. The factory belongs to the state, and the workers are working for the country. Ultimately, the wealth created will belong to the state, and the state will have the money to provide better services to the people. But one-third of the garment factory's income goes into my pocket. I shouldn't treat them well."

Not only that, Cheng Maixiang also wanted to cultivate her own team. Although these aunts and sisters had not received any education and could not do high-end work, they were good at making clothes and embroidering clothes. As long as she could win them over, she would have people to use in the future.

She wants to expand her business in the future, and these people are the resources she can use.

"That's true, but people are always more motivated when they have something to gain. Look, it's only been four days, and the garment workshop has already produced so many clothes, embroidery, and women's bags. I'm afraid in two more days, all the orders you received last week will be completed."

This was something Cheng Maixiang had not expected. She had received a lot of orders last time, and including Lin Jiayu's ten pieces of clothing, it was four times as many as the first time. According to her estimate, it would take at least ten days to complete, but she did not expect that nearly 70% of it would be completed in just four days.

So, Cheng Maixiang took advantage of the fact that the garment workshop was closed on Sunday, quickly packed up the finished clothes, and went to the county town with Lin Jiayu to hand them over to the ready-made wardrobe of the supply and marketing cooperative.

At that time, Ruan Peiwen was shocked when he saw Cheng Maixiang, because according to the last agreement, Cheng Maixiang would take at least three weeks to a month to deliver the goods. Unexpectedly, he brought so many goods in just two weeks.

According to Cheng Maixiang's promise, Ruan Peiwen also got a dress. Ruan Peiwen was very happy and secretly told Cheng Maixiang that she would give the clothes she made for the members of the art troupe to Ruan Peiling privately and would not use the supply and marketing cooperative's account to avoid being fleeced by the supply and marketing cooperative.

"Where else are you going today?"

Now one of them works in a steel factory and the other is busy with a garment factory. They can only have one day to date each week. They both cherish this day very much and go shopping everywhere, almost visiting the entire county.

"I want to go to the county high school to register today. High school starts in two weeks."

The county high school is located in the southwest of the county. Lin Jiayu rode his bike with Cheng Maixiang, and after about a quarter of an hour, they arrived at the school gate.

The high school is located by a small river. There is a white wooden plaque hanging at the school gate with the four big words "Linwen High School" written in bold black letters on the plaque.

The original owner dropped out of this high school after studying for less than a year and returned home, so Cheng Maixiang still has some memories of the school.

The school occupies a very small area. To the north of the campus are two rows of classrooms, both made of red bricks and tiles. Behind the classrooms are two rows of dormitories, one for teachers and one for students. To the west of the teachers' quarters are two canteens: the smaller one is for teachers and the larger one is for students.

Beyond the classroom is the school playground. The playground does not have the greenery of later generations. Instead, it is covered with gray dust. In a corner of the playground, there is a shabby basketball hoop. The net has long disappeared, leaving only a bare hoop.

Relying on the original owner's memory, Cheng Maixiang took Lin Jiayu straight to the classroom at the eastern end of the first row. Sure enough, there was a wooden sign nailed above the room with three words painted on it: Admissions Office.

Cheng Maixiang knocked on the door and someone answered. She pushed the door open and saw a male teacher instructing two girls to fill out the registration form.
