The bus to the provincial capital was packed with people. It was almost the New Year, and many educated youth in the countryside were busy returning to the city. It was difficult to get a ticket to the provincial capital. Lin Jiayu went to the bus station and queued for half a day before he could barely buy a ticket to the provincial capital the next day.
This time when they went to the provincial capital, in addition to the Lin siblings, Cheng Maixiang also came. Yingying didn't want to be separated from Qiaomai, so after obtaining the consent of Cheng's mother and Cheng's sister-in-law, Qiaomai also got on the car to the provincial capital.
The roads in this era were full of potholes, and the car was shaking all the way. After getting off the car at noon, Cheng Maixiang squatted on the ground for a full twenty minutes before she finally recovered.
The provincial capital is the capital of East Province. It is much more prosperous than Linwen County, but it is still far behind Guangzhou.
Lin Qingwan stood by the road and looked around. There were still a few small red brick buildings on both sides of the road, interspersed with countless bungalows. Occasionally a two-box bus passed by on the road. Most pedestrians were walking, and some were riding bicycles slowly.
It has been ten years since she and her parents and brother left this place. The scenery remains the same, but things and people have changed. Her parents died of illness not long after leaving the provincial capital, and now only the sister and brother have returned as they wished.
Lin Qingwan sighed and saw Cheng Maixiang pulling Lin Jiayu to point out the trees, flowers and plants on both sides of the road. Qiaomai and Yingying had the opportunity to come to the big city for the first time, and their two pairs of eyes were not enough. They chattered excitedly and she couldn't help but smile.
Perhaps the parents' greatest wish in this life is that the two siblings can live according to their own wishes. Now Xiaojia has her own life, and Yingying has slowly recovered to be a normal child. If the parents knew about this, they would probably be relieved.
Cheng Maixiang was discussing the construction of the provincial capital with Lin Jiayu when she suddenly saw Lin Qingwan standing there in a daze. Knowing that she was reminiscing about the scene, she quickly changed the subject, "Sister, I'm almost done resting. Can you lead the way to the Lin family's old house? Jiayu has a very bad memory and has long forgotten where the old house is."
Lin Jiayu did not have as deep feelings as Lin Qingwan. After all, when he left with his parents, he was still a child who played with cats and dogs, and had fun every day. He was really changed after his parents passed away, and his memory of the provincial capital was not that strong.
"Okay, then follow me. If the bus route hasn't changed, you should take bus number 13."
Cheng Maixiang and Lin Jiayu followed Lin Qingwan side by side. Cheng Maixiang turned around to greet the two little sisters, but saw that they were holding hands and walking behind the adults, whispering in each other's ears from time to time.
Cheng Maixiang found it funny and teased Qiaomai on purpose, "Qiaomai, since you like Yingying so much, why don't you just accept her as your sister?"
"Aunt, how old are you? Why are you so confused? Yingying is my sister, right, Yingying?"
Buckwheat couldn't help revealing a look of regret on her little face, as if she hadn't expected that her usually clever aunt had become so stupid and asked such a ridiculous question.
Yingying smiled sweetly on her fair and tender face, nodding like a chick pecking at rice. "Yes, Qiaomai is my sister. She is so kind to me."
The three adults couldn't help but burst out laughing. Lin Jiayu deliberately said to Yingying, "But Yingying, after the New Year, you will go to school in the city. You won't be able to see your sister every day. What should we do?"
Yingying's smiling face suddenly fell. She rushed to Lin Qingwan, hugged her thighs, raised her face and said to her anxiously, "Mom, I don't want to go to school in the city. I don't want to be separated from Qiaomai. Please don't let me go to school in the city."
In fact, Lin Qingwan has been thinking about this matter these days. She found that Yingying got along better and better with the children in Shuangshui Village Primary School. Because of Aiguo and Qiaomai, the children did not reject her. Although Ying's temperament began to change, once she left this environment and let her face unfamiliar classmates alone, she didn't know if she could still be as happy as she was in Shuangshui Village.
"Big sister, how about this? Let Yingying go to school in Shuangshui Village next year, and let Qiaomai take care of her. When she's a little braver, it won't be too late for her to go to school in the city then. After all, we'll be learning the same things in elementary school, and she won't fall behind in her studies."
Lin Qingwan was also moved when she heard what Cheng Maixiang said. Not only Yingying, she also gradually fell in love with the aunts and sisters in the garment workshop. Although working in the garment workshop was hard, it was very lively. Many times, she couldn't stop smiling at the end of the day. She also wanted to continue working in the garment workshop.
Seeing the longing on his eldest sister's face, Lin Jiayu acted like the head of the family and said to Yingying, "Uncle has made the decision. Yingying will continue to go to school in Shuangshui Village next year."
The two little girls immediately cheered loudly, holding hands and jumping to celebrate, as if this was a huge happy event for them.
Seeing Yingying so happy, Lin Qingwan was secretly relieved, so she said, "Let's do it this way. But I'm really embarrassed to bother Aunt Cheng all day long."
The group took a bus for half an hour and got off at Liulipo. In front of them was a quiet street. On the north side of the street, a large house was looming under the shade of green trees.
"The main gate is on the west side, about two hundred meters away."
Lin Qingwan tried her best to suppress her inner excitement and spoke calmly.
Lin Jiayu looked up at the two-meter-high pink wall beside him, with its hollow stained glass windows and black tiles. The carefree days of his childhood suddenly flooded his memory.
On the gate of the Lin family’s old house, there is a wooden plaque with nine large characters written in black paint: “Female Workers’ Dormitory of the Provincial Capital Textile Factory”.
After they walked through the gate and passed the screen wall, they saw another sign on the right with the three big characters "Management Office" written on it, along with a pointing arrow.
