Chapter 8 Are You Willing to Sell It to Me?

Shuangshui Village gets its name from the two small streams in the village. The trickles of water flow from the north of the village, meet under two century-old locust trees at the south end of the village, and flow out of the village.

I don't know who placed a few stone pillars under the locust tree. Because of the green trees, many people in the village come here to cool off and chat during the midsummer. It has become the second largest information distribution center in the village besides the village committee.

Coincidentally, this place is not far from the highway to the county town, so people who want to go to the county town wait for the bus here.

Early that morning, Cheng Maixiang planned to go to the Xinhua Bookstore in the county town to buy some textbooks so that she could review them in advance so that she wouldn't find it too hard to go to school again.

As usual, a group of people had gathered under the big locust tree and were chatting animatedly.

"Have you heard that Cheng Maixiang and Wu Jiadong's marriage fell through?"

"This matter has spread all over the town a long time ago. Everyone knows about it. Don't treat history as news."

"Oh, I know that. I was talking about Zhao Linlin. She seduced Wu Jiadong on his wedding night, but in the end, it was all in vain. She and Wu Jiadong didn't end up together."

Cheng Maixiang had already walked behind the big locust tree, but when she heard the news, she couldn't help but stop.

Wu Jiadong and Zhao Linlin are not together?

What was going on? She remembered clearly that in her previous life, Wu Jiadong had done so many bastard things to the original owner in order to be with the goddess of his dreams.

In the second year after Wu Jiadong went to college, the national college entrance examination was resumed. Zhao Linlin, who was originally an educated youth sent to the countryside like Wu Jiadong, signed up. After studying hard day and night, she also received an admission notice from the provincial university.

Zhao Linlin, who came to the provincial capital university, and Wu Jiadong, who shared the same ideals and beliefs, began to talk about a sacred and great love behind the original owner's back.

In Wu Jiadong's view, the original owner was a rural young wife with no culture and no knowledge. She was not worthy of his thoughts and soul at all. Their union was a tragedy of the times.

After a few years, Zhao Linlin could no longer tolerate the secret underground love affair and wanted to break up with Wu Jiadong. Wu Jiadong wrote a letter to divorce Cheng Maixiang.

Cheng Maixiang couldn't accept that she had married a modern-day Chen Shimei, and she locked herself at home crying all day. She couldn't understand why Wu Jiadong, who had always spoken sweet words to her, had changed his mind so suddenly.

The powerful mother Cheng was indignant about Wu Jiadong's deception. She brought her elder and second brothers to the provincial university without the knowledge of the original owner and made a scene. In front of the whole class, she scolded Wu Jiadong for being ruthless and ungrateful, and called Zhao Linlin a vixen who seduced married men. She even said that she would go to court to sue the two for destroying other people's marriages.

The matter became a big deal and alarmed the school leaders and even the newspapers in the provincial capital. The newspapers took advantage of the incident between the two to analyze the divorce wave among educated youth that was prevalent at the time in a long series of articles, and various opinions emerged one after another.

Zhao Linlin, who was at the center of the incident, felt humiliated and ashamed to face people. Finally, despite Wu Jiadong's efforts to retain her, she chose to drop out of school, met a wealthy businessman from Hong Kong, and went directly to Hong Kong to attend university.

Because of Zhao Linlin's sad departure, Wu Jiadong blamed all the problems on the original owner. He felt that although she was uneducated, her methods and intentions were extremely vicious, and she tried every means to destroy his pure love.

Wu Jiadong lived with the original owner for nearly fifteen years. When Cheng's mother was alive, even though Wu Jiadong was dissatisfied with Cheng Maixiang, he did not dare to show it too much. However, after Cheng's mother passed away, the original owner's hard days began.

Wu Jiadong tortured her all day long, cursed her with the most vicious words, and withheld her food, clothing and other expenses. No matter how tolerant the original owner was, or how considerate and caring she was, he was like an icy stone that would never be warmed up.

Finally, the original owner was disappointed. She finally realized that Wu Jiadong was not a good match for her. She chose to give up, set Wu Jiadong free, and let herself go.

Originally, the two had nothing to do with each other after their divorce, but unexpectedly, Zhao Linlin, who had returned from Hong Kong, had become a nationally renowned media person. When she was interviewed by mainland media, she half-concealedly talked about how she was forced to drop out of the provincial university and lamented her first love that ended in vain.

The nosy media immediately dug deeper and actually uncovered the bloody love triangle between the three of them, which they reported extensively in the media. However, the media naturally sided with Zhao Linlin and distorted the entire incident.

For a time, the original owner became a national celebrity. The public condemned her for being selfish and using her brother's power to make things difficult for the suffering educated youth, forcing them to marry her and love her. She was simply a scheming bitch who was despised by everyone.

During the days when the scolding was most intense, the original owner did not dare to go out, let alone see people, for fear that someone would recognize her and throw eggs at her.

When the original owner was forced into a desperate situation, he almost jumped into the sea to commit suicide. Fortunately, someone rescued him and he survived.

Now that she has taken the initiative to withdraw and is no longer a stumbling block to their relationship, they have actually broken up.

Cheng Maixiang suddenly felt both amused and annoyed.

"You only know one side of the story. Zhao Linlin and Wu Jiadong didn't end up together, but it wasn't because Wu Jiadong didn't want her. It was because he looked down on him. She'd already hooked up with the son of the Liujia Village Party Secretary. In a couple of days, she'll apply to transfer to Liujia Village as an educated youth."

There was a burst of exclamations from the crowd, and everyone sighed at how clever Zhao Linlin was. Her scandal with Wu Jiadong had spread throughout the entire commune, but she still had the ability to hook up with a man who was able to spend money and effort on her, and even coaxed the man into using his power to transfer her to another village.

Cheng Maixiang was too lazy to listen any further, so she walked past the big locust tree and came to the crowd.

Someone in the crowd happened to see Cheng Maixiang and was feeling a little embarrassed, but suddenly he opened his eyes wide in surprise, his mouth slightly open, and forgot what he was going to say.
