The foreigner got excited and spoke a lot of English. Fortunately, Cheng Maixiang had a good command of English and understood that he wanted her to help find a translator. Cheng Maixiang thought about it and took him to the office set up on site at the Canton Fair.
There were several employees having lunch in the office. When they saw someone bringing a foreigner in, they all stood up quickly. Cheng Maixiang explained the foreigner's situation and the office staff promised to use a loudspeaker to look for him.
Cheng Maixiang was about to leave with Lin Jiayu, but the foreigner held them back. After all, no one in the office understood English. If anything happened, he had no one to communicate with. He had finally found someone who could speak English, so he naturally didn't want to let her leave.
Cheng Maixiang had no choice but to stay. Lin Jiayu also sat in the office reluctantly. He saw that man chatting enthusiastically with his young wife, but he couldn't understand a word they said. He sat depressed on the chair, glaring at the foreigner hatefully.
After the conversation, Cheng Maixiang learned that the foreigner was called Robert, from Country M, and that he came to the Canton Fair to purchase handicrafts here.
As soon as the office loudspeaker was turned on, the translator came to the door automatically. When the foreigner saw him, he thanked Cheng Maixiang and Lin Jiayu repeatedly, and then left with the translator.
Lin Jiayu finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the big light bulb had finally left. "Maizi, your English is so good. Just now at the stall, why did you keep listening to the translator instead of talking directly to the foreigner?"
"There were so many people just now, and my mouth is dry from talking. After the foreigners finish speaking, the translator repeats it, so I can still buy some time to rest. Why should I compete with the translator for work?"
That’s true, Lin Jiayu nodded repeatedly. His wife had indeed worked hard today, but the garment factory also made a lot of money.
There was one more thing Cheng Maixiang didn't say. The orders from those foreign customers were not large, and were actually less than those from domestic customers. She was too lazy to talk to them in English.
The afternoon opening time soon arrived. Cheng Maixiang and Lin Jiayu returned to the stall and devoted themselves to receiving customers again, and were very busy.
The four of them were surrounded by a group of people. Suddenly, a loud voice came from outside the crowd. Someone greeted Cheng Maixiang in English, "Hi, Cheng, you are here! I finally found you!"
Cheng Maixiang turned her head and saw Robert accompanied by another foreign man, standing outside the crowd, greeting her with a smile.
