Chapter 66 New Year

All the dishes were served and the family sat around the table. Mother Cheng took a bite of the dish with her chopsticks first, and then everyone started to eat happily.

The table was filled with braised pork, chicken stewed with potatoes, scrambled eggs with green peppers, stir-fried green beans, pickled cabbage, pork with preserved vegetables, pork skin jelly, pig's trotter soup, stir-fried meat with vermicelli, and a few side dishes.

Mother Cheng is a good cook and she put plenty of ingredients in the meal, which made everyone at the table very satisfied, especially the second brother Cheng and his family. They ate like crazy with their chopsticks, and Ai Min's little head was buried in the bowl.

Seeing that everyone had almost finished eating, Cheng's mother put the dumplings into the pot and quickly served them on the table.

The children like the dumplings made by Cheng's mother the most. The fillings are fried with lard, and the fillings are plump and juicy and taste great.

Aijun and Aimin buried their heads and ate with great relish. Although Aiguo liked to act like a little adult, he also ate with a smile on his face.

On the contrary, buckwheat, who always liked to talk endlessly like a little sparrow at the dinner table, was in low spirits. He only ate a few pieces and said he was full.

Cheng Maixiang knew that he missed Yingying. Over the past month, the two little girls ate and slept together and had become best friends. Today was New Year's Eve, so Lin Jiayu and Lin Qingwan naturally couldn't stay at the Cheng family for the New Year. Although Yingying was reluctant, she had to follow the adults home.

Cheng Maixiang smiled and whispered to Qiaomai, "Qiaomai, don't be upset. Yingying will come to see you tomorrow. After dinner, Auntie will take you to set off the flowers."

After all, Qiaomai is a child at heart. After hearing what Cheng Maixiang said, he immediately became happy again, lowered his head and ate all the dumplings in the bowl.

As soon as Qiaomai finished eating the dumplings, she couldn't wait to pull Cheng Maixiang's hand and go with her to set off fireworks. Everyone couldn't help laughing when they saw her anxious look.

The two ran to the yard hand in hand. Qiaomai looked up and asked, "Aunt, what kind of fireworks are you going to set off?"

Cheng Maixiang took out a handful of Didijin from the shed in the south and handed it to Qiaomai, "Let's put it together!"

Cheng Maixiang bought these gold coins for one dollar at the market in town last time, and prepared them specifically for her nephews and nieces.

"Wow, you're so kind, auntie!"

Qiaomai clapped her hands and jumped and screamed. Cheng Maixiang took out a match and lit two sticks of Didi Jin. Amid the "chi chi chi" sound of fireworks, wisps of dazzling light began to jump in the dark night sky.

Cheng Maixiang and Qiaomai each held a few sticks of Didi Jin and waved them in the air, drawing one yellow circle of light after another. Qiaomai cheered happily and chased and played with Cheng Maixiang around the yard. The whole yard was filled with laughter.

Ai Min came out of the main room upon hearing the noise, and lit a few sticks of Didijin when he saw this. Qiaomai laughed and chased him again, scaring him so much that he ran away.

After all, Aiguo and Aijun were boys, and a few years older than the other two. They were not interested in something that only made light but no sound. The two brothers simply walked out of the house and started setting off firecrackers at the door.

A little bit of coolness seeped into her cheeks, and Cheng Maixiang was slightly stunned. It was snowing.

Snowflakes danced incessantly, swirling in the night wind, and fell silently to the earth. The earth opened its arms and embraced the snowflakes, leaving only a little moisture on the ground.

There had been no snow for the entire winter, and it was quite a surprise to see it at first glance.

Sporadic firecrackers began to sound in the village, and the children's laughter filled the night sky, making her feel the real smell of fireworks.

This was her first New Year's Eve in this world. It was happy and beautiful, warm and satisfying. Perhaps the only flaw was that Lin Jiayu was not able to be with her.
