Chapter 332 Survival
A hasty conflict will only lead you into a dead end.
"Commander Fu, don't be so absolute."
Zheng Mingyuan forced a smile, trying to ease the tension, but the smile was more like a grimace. "You broke into someone else's house without even knocking. So... who's in the wrong here? What's the point of talking about reason?"
Qiao Wanyin suddenly let out a soft groan, her brows furrowed tightly, her face growing paler, and her bloodless lips trembling slightly.
Her fingers gripped her husband's shirt tightly, her knuckles turning white, as if she wanted to hang herself on that only rope.
Her voice was broken and weak, almost inaudible: "Li An... I... I feel so dizzy... I think... I can't hold on anymore... If this continues... I really... can't take it..."
"What?!"
Fu Li'an's pupils suddenly contracted, and his heart pounded violently as if someone had squeezed it tightly.
He immediately looked down at his wife in his arms, his voice suddenly rising, filled with shock, anger, and heartache: "Qingqing! Hold on! Don't sleep! Look at me! Open your eyes! Do you hear me? Don't close your eyes!"
Zheng Mingyuan stood to the side, a fine layer of cold sweat quietly seeping from his forehead, and a chill running down his spine.
Her eyes were filled with fear and grievance, and her voice, though weak, trembled with tears. "We were tricked into coming here by Fang Wanyu... She said we searched every corner, drawers, cabinets, hidden compartments... but we found nothing... really... nothing at all..."
Zheng Mingyuan paused for a moment, his eyes flashing slightly: "Fang Wanyu?"
"right!"
She nodded vigorously, then swayed from exhaustion and leaned back into Fu Lian'an's arms. "She didn't expect... it was a trap..."
Fu Li'an immediately replied, his voice low but like a spark buried under snow, ready to erupt into a raging fire at any moment: "But I have to remind you—if you delay even a second longer, and something happens to my wife and children, can you really take responsibility for that?"
Zheng Mingyuan's heart pounded, and his chest felt like it had been hit hard several times, making it difficult to breathe.
He had indeed had contact with Fang Wanyu, even speaking to her on the phone a few times and meeting her once, but he never imagined that this woman would be so bold as to bypass him and set up a trap on her own.
I never expected that she would use her own office as bait to set a trap for others.
Now that he has been caught red-handed, yet there is no concrete evidence, the situation is extremely unfavorable for him.
"search!"
Two subordinates stepped forward in response, their expressions tense but quick as they began to act.
One person checked the hidden compartment behind the bookshelf, while the other opened the drawers, pulled open the bottom of the chair, and even lifted up the carpet, carefully searching for any hidden compartments or mechanisms.
But no matter how much they searched, the result remained the same—empty.
The so-called "secret document" had already been secretly taken away by Fu Lian'an's comrades before Qiao Wanyin and Fu Lian entered the area, and had been sent to a safe location for safekeeping.
Not even a copy was left at the scene.
“Reporting to Secretary,” one of the subordinates reported respectfully but heavily, “the entire room has been searched… there were no suspicious items, no hidden documents… there really is nothing.”
Zheng Mingyuan's face turned pale and then red, as if he were being roasted over a fire, caught in a dilemma.
He stared at Fu Lian for a full five seconds before finally gritting his teeth and squeezing out two words: "Get lost!"
He then added, his tone laced with resentment and threat: "Let's pretend today's events never happened."
Fu Li'an sneered, his eyes filled with disdain and mockery, as if the scene just now was nothing more than a boring show.
He held Qiao Wanyin tightly in his arms, his movements firm and powerful, without the slightest hesitation. He turned and walked steadily toward the jeep parked at the alley entrance.
The night breeze brushed against the hem of his clothes and ruffled the slightly disheveled hair on his forehead, but it could not dispel the coldness between his brows.
Only when the jeep had driven quite a distance, the wheels crunching over the gravel road, and the village in the rearview mirror had long since blurred into a dark silhouette, did Qiao Wanyin dare to relax her tense body and slowly exhale a breath she had been suppressing for so long, as if she had finally woken up from a thrilling dream.
She slowly sat up straight, leaning back in her chair, her shoulders trembling slightly, her fingertips still a little cold.
"That scared me to death!"
She patted her chest hard, trying to dispel the lingering fear in her heart. "I was really afraid that we would mess up the performance just now... If Zheng Mingyuan had asked one more question or noticed any flaws, our whole plan would have been ruined."
Her voice still trembled slightly, but her tone now carried a sense of relief at surviving the ordeal.
Fu Li'an finally came to his senses, turned his head to look at her, his brows furrowed tightly, his eyes filled with a complex mix of fear and heartache.
"How dare you think of such a method, you little brat?"
His voice was low and reproachful, yet filled with concern. "What if he doesn't believe you? What if he calls the police on the spot and gets a doctor to check if you're really injured? Do you know how dangerous that is?"
He absolutely must believe.
Qiao Wanyin smiled gently, her eyes curving upwards like crescent moons, revealing an indescribable slyness.
Wang Lei, sitting in the back seat, couldn't help but interject, his tone excited and admiring: "Sister-in-law, your acting is absolutely amazing! That fall and that scream just now, I almost thought you were going to faint! My heart was in my throat, and I almost rushed over to help you."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and touched his forehead, as if he could still feel the tension he felt at the time.
Qiao Wanyin smiled, but before the smile could fully spread across her face, her expression suddenly turned serious, and her eyes sharpened abruptly.
She turned to look at Fu Lian, her voice lowered. Fu Lian nodded, his expression as solemn as iron.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly with one hand and inserted the key into the ignition switch with the other. The engine roared to life, its deafening roar shattering the silent night.
He stepped on the gas, the tires slipped on the ground for a moment, then firmly gripped the ground, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
"Let's go, straight to the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection!"
His gaze was resolute as he looked ahead. The jeep sped through the night, its headlights piercing the thick darkness like a sharp blade cutting through the unknown fog.
The wheels rolled forward, crushing the potholes on the dirt road, rushing onto the national highway, and then speeding towards the expressway leading to the provincial capital.
The wind howled through the cracks in the car windows, carrying the chill unique to early autumn nights, but it could not dampen the burning determination of the three people inside.
Qiao Wanyin leaned back in her chair, her breathing gradually becoming steady.
She gently placed one hand on her bulging belly, feeling a faint but real fetal movement in her palm.
Those light kicks seemed to be a response to her protection.
She closed her eyes, a gentle yet firm smile appearing on her lips.
More importantly, during the search, they even arranged for someone to impersonate the Fu family and exchange secret letters and recordings regarding their land rights.
Those shady schemes are now laid bare in the sunlight and can no longer be concealed.
Now, it's their turn to make a move.
Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent.
