Chapter 42 Never Give Up

Chapter 42 Never Give Up

Her words, coupled with the subtle, ambiguous emotions she conveyed, were like a small hook that struck He Dayong's heart directly, causing it to flutter wildly.

He wore an expression that was both embarrassed and pleased.

"It's alright, it's alright... Wanyin, these are really no problem. Don't worry, I definitely won't make things difficult for you!"

Hearing his statement, Qiao Wanyin felt much more at ease.

She then responded accordingly.

"That's great! I knew Brother Dayong was a reasonable person. We were born and raised in the same village, how could we possibly kick someone when they're down?"

However, before she could calm down from her joy...

The next second, however, his thoughts were interrupted by a sudden, tense voice.

He Dayong gave an awkward smile, looked at her cautiously, and stammered, "Well... how about this, I think if you're willing to marry me, all those previous debts... will be wiped clean!"

He finally mustered up the courage to blurt it out in one breath.

He then quickly added another sentence.

"I can add another 500 yuan as a bride price, and also provide your family with all the big-ticket items like a radio, a watch, a bicycle, and a microphone! What do you think?"

"Don't worry, I absolutely won't care about your past departure to Hong Kong. Once you're mine, no one will dare to point fingers or gossip about you anymore!"

Qiao Wanyin stood there in silence for a while, and didn't say anything.

Although she had long guessed that He Dayong still harbored resentment towards her past, she never expected that he would directly ask her to marry him!

She coughed softly.

"I'm sorry, Brother Dayong, I'm engaged. My fiancé is someone I met recently... We just got engaged a few days ago."

"What?"

He blurted it out almost immediately, his eyes widening in astonishment.

"What did you say? You're engaged? How is that possible? When did you start dating? How come I had no idea?"

Yesterday I even went to the Qiao family home to argue with her.

Back then, I didn't mention having a boyfriend at all!

In the entire village, besides himself who doesn't care about her past, who else can truly accept her and be willing to marry her?

In He Dayong's opinion, Qiao Wanyin's words were clearly a lie!

Qiao Wanyin continued to look at him calmly.

“He was one of the educated youths who was sent down to the countryside from my village. His name was Fu Li’an.”

"Fu Li'an?"

Tie Zhu, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but interject, his tone full of surprise.

"I know! Isn't that the best educated youth in our village? Handsome, well-educated, and I heard his family—"

"Smack—!"

A crisp slap interrupted him.

Tie Zhu was caught off guard and slapped.

My whole body tilted to the side, and my cheek burned with pain.

"Big brother, what...what did I say that I shouldn't have said?"

Tie Zhu looked at He Dayong with a wronged and puzzled expression.

"Shut up!"

He Daqi's face turned red, and his voice was almost trembling.

"Don't you think you've caused enough trouble already? Shut your mouth and don't say another word!"

"I'm just telling the truth."

Tie Zhu muttered to himself while scratching his head.

"You're the most handsome man in our town. That educated youth, Fu, may be from the city, but he's only the most handsome one in the city..."

Seeing that Tie Zhu was still arguing, He Dayong was about to kick him.

"Get the hell out of my way!! Who gave you permission to speak!"

"Brother Dayong!"

Qiao Wanyin suddenly shouted loudly.

"Stop hitting him, everything he said is true."

She paused, then added, her expression serious.

"To be honest, Fu Lian is indeed one of the most handsome men in the provincial capital!"

She then raised her chin again.

"Moreover, Fu Zhiqing and I are already engaged, and I have a fiancé."

“We’ll take things one step at a time. I will definitely pay back all the money I owe you within three months.”

Qiao Wanyin quickly added, her tone pleading.

He Dayong, who had been so confident, suddenly changed his expression after hearing this.

He was standing there with his chest puffed out and a nonchalant smile on his face.

But when he heard the words "I'm engaged to Fu Zhiqing," he felt as if he had been doused with cold water.

His square face was filled with shock.

He turned around and stopped talking. He walked back to his seat with a slightly unsteady gait and sat down with a "thud".

The chair creaked and groaned.

His tone was no longer harsh; instead, it became icy.

"Tiezhu, tell her about our local regulations!"

Tie Zhu, who had just been scolded by Brother Dayong, was still pondering to himself where things had gone wrong.

He quickly bowed and stepped forward, speaking with a fawning smile.

“Wanyin, you’ve dragged this out for so long, it really can’t be delayed any longer. Everyone knows you have the ability and the will to resolve this… but it’s better to do it sooner rather than later…”

Before he could finish speaking, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that Brother Dayong's face had turned extremely pale.

"Iron Pillar!"

Sure enough, He Dayong let out a low growl, almost through gritted teeth.

He tensed up, burning with rage.

Tie Zhu shuddered in fright, his back snapping straighter than a bowstring. He hurriedly looked up and replied, "Brother Dayong, haven't I changed my attitude?"

He spoke in a pitiful tone.

"Get the hell out of my way! You piece of trash!"

He Dayong nearly slammed a hole in the table, his anger reaching its peak as he slammed his hand down hard.

Before he could finish speaking, he shifted his anger and glared coldly at Qiao Wanyin sitting opposite him.

"Qiao Wanyin, you have to choose one today! You must make a choice!"

"Either pay off your debts right now, or immediately cancel your engagement with that educated youth! Don't try to have your cake and eat it too, or refuse to let go of either side! Do you think I'm playing a game with you?"

He had liked Qiao Wanyin for a long time.

I've admired her stubbornness ever since she was studying in the village.

She's finally back.

But then, a so-called educated youth from the provincial capital suddenly appeared and managed to abduct someone with just a few casual words.

Qiao Wanyin was also annoyed by his words. She raised her eyebrows and a sarcastic smile appeared on her lips.

"He Dayong, have you really lost your mind? I owe money, not my life! How can you be so unreasonable!"

She was very blunt.

"I won't listen! If you don't break off the engagement, I'll come to your house every day and make a scene, turning your home into a living hell!"

He Dayong's voice was rough and hoarse, and he was on the verge of losing control.

He stood at the doorway, hands on his hips.

He Dayong was the kind of petty hoodlum who didn't care about rules.

He never cares about personal relationships or face, and he doesn't do things according to common sense.

He had no interest in such formalities.

His temper, which turns so easily, is well-known on the streets.

When things didn't go as planned, my anger flared up immediately.
