Chapter 91 You Can't Lie to Me
The air was thick with the smell of sweat.
Qiao Wanyin wrinkled her nose, frowned slightly, and couldn't help but quicken her pace.
Just as she was about to reach the bathroom door, she suddenly caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of her eye.
A thin, small man was standing by the aisle of the carriage, quietly leaning against an old man who was dozing off. He was bending over and furtively groping for something.
She saw it clearly at a glance.
The man's long, withered fingers had already stealthily slipped into the old man's pocket, and with practiced ease, he pulled out a bulging wallet.
Qiao Wanyin's head buzzed.
Blood rushed to my head.
My whole body tensed up instantly.
Without even thinking twice, she immediately yelled at the top of her lungs, "Someone's stealing!"
The carriage immediately erupted in chaos.
The thief who had succeeded in stealing the item never expected that someone would step in and stop him.
Startled, his face turned ashen, and his small eyes glared fiercely at Qiao Wanyin.
Meanwhile, he had already slipped the wallet from his hand into his pocket.
Qiao Wanyin did not back down at all, and took a step forward to meet the thief's fierce eyes.
"Give the wallet back!"
She gave the order in a loud voice, her gaze fixed firmly on him.
"Look everyone, this person just stole this old man's money! Did you all see it?!"
Many people in the carriage stood up and looked around, their eyes all turning to the thief who had suddenly stood up.
The thief's face immediately turned tense when he realized the situation was not right.
Immediately afterwards, he pulled a shiny little knife from behind his waist.
"Get out of the way! Nobody come any closer!"
He brandished the knife, slashing wildly into the air.
Qiao Wanyin's heart started pounding wildly, almost as if it would jump out of her chest.
She gripped the hem of her dress tightly with both hands, stood firmly on her toes, and glanced around quickly.
There was an enamel mug on the table right next to her.
Qiao Wanyin picked it up without hesitation and held it tightly in her hand.
"If you don't let go, I'll smash it!"
She gritted her teeth and shouted loudly.
"Evening Sound!"
Just then, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind her, startling her.
Before she could turn her head, a figure in a crisp military uniform passed by her.
The man rushed to the thief in a few steps and pounced on him without hesitation.
Fu Li'an grabbed the other man's wrist holding the knife and twisted it sharply.
It was accompanied by a soft "click".
The knife clattered to the ground.
Immediately afterwards, he kicked the knife aside to prevent anyone from being accidentally injured.
Then he quickly approached the thief, grabbed him with both hands, pressed him down hard, and subdued him on the ground, holding him firmly under control.
The whole process took less than ten seconds.
Even the police officer standing nearby couldn't help but show his admiration.
Qiao Wanyin stood there, stunned.
I was completely stunned by what I was seeing, and I was still in a daze.
"Flight attendant! Call the flight attendant quickly!"
Someone in the crowd shouted loudly.
Before long, the train conductor and the train police officer who were on board, having heard the commotion, quickly arrived at the scene.
After confirming that it was safe, they escorted the thief, who was still struggling on the ground, away.
The elderly man, who had just nearly lost his wallet, staggered toward Qiao Wanyin.
"Thank you so much! That was money I'd saved up for so long to pay for my wife's medical treatment. If I lost it, my life would be ruined, I'd be dead..."
Upon seeing this, Qiao Wanyin blushed slightly and waved her hand gently.
“Please don’t be so polite,” she said, adding sincerely, “I just did what I was supposed to do.”
After finishing everything, Qiao Wanyin got up and went to the bathroom to wash her face.
At this moment, Fu Li'an's face was still somewhat gloomy, as if he still had a trace of lingering anger.
She cautiously looked up at him.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
He looked at her, his voice low.
Do you know how dangerous that was?
His words revealed a hint of heartache and lingering fear.
After hearing this, Qiao Wanyin just smiled and said softly, "It is a bit dangerous, but don't forget," she blinked, "I saw the thief trying to escape with my own eyes, I can't just watch him get away with it."
Fu Li'an took a long breath, his chest rising and falling slightly.
He tried to lower his voice to avoid sounding too agitated, but his tone still carried a suppressed emotion.
“I can understand and respect your choice to help others. But you have to understand that no matter how kind you are, you have to take care of yourself first.”
He paused, his eyes lowered.
“You probably didn’t notice, but the knife was waving right in front of you, the blade so close… I was really terrified, my heart was pounding in my chest.”
Qiao Wanyin was slightly stunned, and stood there frozen in place.
She really didn't expect Fu Lian to say such a thing.
She felt a slight tremor in her heart.
She involuntarily raised her hand and gently grasped his hand; her fingertips were slightly cool.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been so impulsive... I'll be more careful in the future, really."
Fu Lian felt the warmth of her palm and immediately grasped her hand in return.
“We made a promise,” he said, looking at her with a hint of nervousness and seriousness in his eyes, “you have to promise me you won’t lie to me.”
The train bumped along the tracks for a full day and night.
The carriage was sometimes noisy and sometimes quiet.
As the journey progressed, a sense of fatigue began to creep in.
Finally, the familiar platform came into view; we had arrived at the train station in Haishi, our destination.
As soon as I got off the bus, a damp wind blew in my face.
The platform was packed with people.
Fu Lian carried the two of their heavy luggage bags in one hand, while unconsciously placing the other hand protectively beside Qiao Wanyin.
As he stepped out of the station exit, he looked up and gazed into the distance.
He then turned to her and said, "We have to take a boat there now, because there's no bridge on that island yet. Everyone has to rely on ferries to get in and out."
As soon as he finished speaking, Qiao Wanyin followed his gaze.
Not far away, rows of slightly worn-out old boats were quietly moored on the shore.
The seawater lapped against the embankment, creating layers of white spray.
Qiao Wanyin took a deep breath.
Watch your step.
As Fu Lian reminded her, he spoke softly, reached out to steady her arm, and led her slowly onto the slightly swaying deck.
He protected her from slipping while giving her instructions.
"Let's find a seat by the window later."
The ferry slowly started moving.
With a long whistle, the ship gently rocked and slowly sailed away from the shore.
At first, Qiao Wanyin leaned against the window with some interest.
Seeing that she was in a better mood, Fu Lian also relaxed and found a corner seat by the window.
He adjusted his posture, indicating that Qiao Wanyin could lean on his shoulder to rest for a while.
"Take a nap," he said softly, his hand unconsciously resting on her soft hair and gently stroking it. "I'll wake you up later."
She leaned against his warm and familiar shoulder, feeling drowsy.
