Chapter 122 Intentional Poisoning

Chapter 122 Intentional Poisoning

Fu Lian slammed on the brakes, and the whole car jolted violently.

He turned his head quickly, his eyes blazing: "What did you say?"

"Someone added laundry detergent to the porridge."

Her voice was steady, as if she had thought it through carefully before speaking.

“I saw Liu Piaopiao run out of the kitchen back door with my own eyes. She was carrying an empty bag, which was the packaging for laundry detergent.”

Fu Lian gripped the steering wheel so hard his fingers turned white, and the veins on the back of his hand bulged.

He gritted his teeth, his voice so low it seemed to be squeezed out from the depths of his throat: "Are you sure it's her?"

"I recognize her from behind."

Qiao Wanyin's gaze was firm as she stared directly into the angry eyes reflected in the rearview mirror.

“Fu Li’an, no one knows him better than me. I will never mistake that posture of his walking with his left shoulder slightly lowered and his head tilted slightly.”

...

The hospital ward was dimly lit.

Fu Li'an pushed open the door to the isolation room, walked to Qiao Wanyin's side, and slowly sat down.

He took off his military cap, looking tired but relieved: "It's alright, the situation has stabilized. The doctor just finished the examination and said that all the children's vital signs are stabilizing, and they can be transferred to regular wards after another 24 hours of observation."

Qiao Wanyin held a cup of freshly poured hot water in both hands, looking down at the slightly swaying surface of the water.

How is Tiger doing now?

"He's awake and recognizes people."

Fu Li'an answered softly, a rare smile appearing on his lips.

"The nurse just came to report that he groggily opened his eyes and the first thing he asked was, 'Where did Teacher Qiao go?'"

A tear slid down her cheek without warning.

She quickly raised her hand and wiped away the wet drop.

Fu Lian watched her subtle movements, then reached out and gently pulled her into his arms.

Her body stiffened, and she instinctively tried to avoid this sudden tenderness.

In the end, she gave up struggling and let her body lean softly against his chest, remaining motionless.

"sorry."

He spoke softly, his voice tinged with a hint of hoarseness and apology.

"He shouldn't have left without a word this morning, without even having a chance to explain."

She remained silent, her long eyelashes trembling slightly.

She didn't want to listen, nor did she want to respond.

"I have already reported it to the village."

Fu Li'an continued, his tone calm and firm.

"The security department will go to the mutual aid point to investigate this matter soon."

Qiao Wanyin suddenly opened her eyes and sat up straight from his arms.

"no!"

"What's wrong?"

Fu Li'an was startled by her sudden reaction and frowned in confusion.

Have you thought about the consequences?

Her tone was urgent, and her eyes were intense.

“I have no concrete evidence! I only saw a silhouette, that’s all, and…”

She took a deep breath, suppressing her anxiety. "Liu Piaopiao is Commander Fang's niece. Do you understand what this relationship means?"

Fu Li'an frowned, and his eyes suddenly turned cold.

"So what? Even if she has powerful connections, if she really poisoned the drugs, that's breaking the law! No one can cover up a crime."

"But do you have any evidence?"

She countered his question with a sharp, piercing retort.

"Besides seeing her run away in a hurry after the incident, what else can directly prove that she did it? Nothing. If she turns around and accuses me of framing her, who do you think Commander Fang will believe?"

Fu Li'an's lips moved, but he ultimately didn't say anything more.

"I have already asked Xiaolin to seal up all the remaining ingredients, utensils, and even tableware in the cafeteria."

Her tone calmed down, but a cold glint flashed in her eyes.

"I will not allow anyone to touch those things until I find out the truth. I will decide what to do next after I have sorted things out."

A look of disbelief appeared in Fu Li'an's eyes.

"You mean... you want to investigate yourself?"

"no."

She gave a bitter smile, but there was no real joy in it.

“I won’t confront her directly, nor will I risk collecting evidence. I just want to wait and see. People who do bad things will always leave a trace. As long as she feels guilty, even if it’s just a little bit, she won’t be able to resist taking another action. At that time, she will reveal the truth herself.”

The two were talking in hushed tones when they heard a series of hurried footsteps.

Factory Director Fang strode over with several soldiers, his steps heavy and hurried.

His face was as black as if it were about to rain, clearly indicating that he was suppressing immense anger.

As soon as Division Commander Fang entered, he anxiously asked, "Regimental Commander Fu, what exactly happened? My daughter's name is on the poisoning list!"

He pulled a crumpled list from his pocket and pointed to "Fang Yue" on it.

Fu Li'an immediately stood up and gave a crisp military salute.

"Reporting to the factory manager, our initial assessment is that there was a problem with the food. We discovered an anomaly during the food supply process, and it is suspected that some kind of toxic additive has been mixed into the staple food. Everyone has undergone gastric lavage and detoxification treatment, and they are all out of danger now."

He paused, his tone softening slightly.

"Yueyue's symptoms are not severe; it is mild poisoning. She is already resting in the observation room. The doctor said she only needs to be observed for another 24 hours and there will be no major problems."

Upon hearing the words "no major problems," the ashen complexion on Commander Fang's face faded slightly.

He tried to calm himself down, then turned to look at Qiao Wanyin standing to the side.

"Director Qiao, I heard you were the first to rush in and handle the situation? You were the first to organize the evacuation, seal off the food, and contact the hospital?"

Qiao Wanyin replied calmly and confidently, "It's our duty, what we should do. The situation was urgent at the time, and there was no room for hesitation. As the person in charge of the mutual aid center, I had to react immediately."

"Um."

Factory Director Fang responded, his eyes showing a newfound seriousness and curiosity.

"Don't you think this isn't so simple? Food poisoning? It sounds like an accident, but your eyes tell me you suspect someone deliberately poisoned it?"

Qiao Wanyin's heart tightened, and her heart skipped a beat.

She concealed the subtle fluctuations in her pupils, her tone remaining normal.

"It's too early to say anything now, Commander. Although the signs are indeed suspicious, we can't draw conclusions based on speculation alone. We need to wait for the test results to determine the type and source of the poison before we can judge whether it was an accident or deliberate."

"Well said!"

Commander Fang raised his voice a few decibels, with approval in his voice, "When doing things, you have to rely on evidence, not guess, and certainly not make judgments based on emotions. I admire your composure."

He glanced around, his tone regaining its seriousness: "The military region has already sent an investigation team to your mutual aid center. They've sealed off the site and are thoroughly investigating every link in the food supply chain. The results will be out soon. I want to see who has the audacity to harm a group of children!"

The hospital corridor lights were too bright, the light glaring and cold.

Qiao Wanyin watched as the last stretcher was wheeled out of the emergency room, and the nurse whispered, "The condition is stable," before she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The attending physician removed his mask, leaving red marks on his cheeks from the pressure of the mask.

He nodded to Qiao Wanyin.

"They're all stable now, with their vital signs stable. They just need close monitoring going forward. We were able to complete the treatment within the golden timeframe this time."
