Chapter 141 Going wild

Chapter 141 Going wild

"No...that's not what I meant."

Qiao Wanyin quickly shook her head, her voice filled with panic and grievance.

"I think you've come all the way from the city, and you must be tired from the journey. You should take a good rest, have some hot tea, and settle down before we talk about anything else..."

"Stop talking nonsense!"

Song Yazhi seemed to have finally found an outlet for her long-suppressed anger.

"Don't try to fool me. I'm here today to make things clear. Tell me how much money and what conditions you want before you're willing to separate from my son. As long as you can name it, the Fu family can afford it!"

“I’ll tell you.”

She approached step by step, her eyes filled with unquestionable authority and disgust.

"I will never allow a woman with a tarnished reputation and shady dealings to walk into the Fu family! And don't even think about my grandson recognizing you as his mother!"

"divorce?"

Her face turned ashen instantly, and her lips trembled slightly.

"Mom, how could you say such a thing... I... I've always respected you as my own mother, and I've never been disrespectful in the slightest. How could you..."

Why not?

Song Yazhi raised an eyebrow and curled her lips into a sarcastic smile.

"A person like you, who steals and denies it, pretends all day long, trying to win my son's heart with just your face, is not worthy of being the daughter-in-law of the Fu family! You don't even deserve to step over the threshold!"

Qiao Wanyin gripped the edge of her apron tightly with her fingers, as if only in this way could she keep from falling.

She has been trying her best to make up for the mess left by the original owner.

But those dark histories, like persistent ghosts, would resurface at crucial moments, tearing her carefully maintained facade to shreds.

"Mom, I swear, I really didn't take the jade ruyi."

Her voice trembled slightly, carrying a hint of pleading and helplessness.

“I love Li An from the bottom of my heart. We are truly together. I never married him for the Fu family’s money or their assets! You can’t judge me based on past rumors!”

"sincere?"

Song Yazhi raised her eyebrows, her tone full of disdain and sarcasm.

"Based on all that gossip you've shared in the village? Always flirting with the men from this neighbor's house and the young men from that neighbor's house! You don't work, you just love to eat, drink, and have fun, where does your money come from? And now you're pretending to be virtuous? Who would believe that?"

Qiao Wanyin opened her mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.

She couldn't very well tell her mother-in-law directly that the body she was in now housed a soul from hundreds of years in the future, could she?

Just as I was thinking about how to explain, but was afraid that I would make things worse, I suddenly heard a series of light, quick footsteps outside the door.

The curtain was lifted, and a clear voice rang out.

"Aunt Song, it really is you! Oh, I've been waiting for you!"

Fang Wanyu appeared at the doorway, a bright smile on her face and a sweet, clear voice.

"Wanyu?"

Song Yazhi's originally cold face immediately relaxed the moment she saw the person who came.

How did you know I was here?

Fang Wanyu took a few quick steps, and then she affectionately took Song Yazhi's arm.

“I heard from my colleagues in the cultural troupe that Director Fu’s mother arrived today. I thought you must have come all the way from the city and hadn’t had a proper meal. So I rushed home and made some of your favorite snacks and side dishes to bring to you to warm your stomach.”

After she finished speaking, she glanced at Qiao Wanyin, who was standing to the side, with a slight sidelong glance.

Then he put on a kind and considerate smile and turned to Qiao Wanyin.

"Sister Wanyin, I brought some extra, you should try them too! They're all home-style dishes, nothing fancy, but they're made with care."

Qiao Wanyin stood quietly to the side, feeling a wave of sourness and nausea rising in her stomach.

That woman is quite the actress!

"Wanyu is so thoughtful and considerate."

Song Yazhi gently patted Fang Wanyu's hand, her tone completely different from when she spoke to Qiao Wanyin earlier.

“Unlike some people, who have been used to being wild in the countryside since childhood, they don’t even know how to serve a cup of tea to their elders. They really don’t understand etiquette.”

Qiao Wanyin took a deep breath and tried to suppress the surging anger in her heart.

"Mom, I'll go make some tea right away. Comrade Fang, please have a seat, don't stand."

She was questioned from the moment she entered the door, without even a chance to speak.

How could she possibly have any room to demonstrate her filial piety and thoughtfulness?

Behind her came Fang Wanyu's deliberately lowered voice: "Aunt Song, don't be angry. Sister Wanyin grew up in the countryside and didn't receive any proper upbringing. Please be magnanimous and don't hold it against her."

The tone, on the surface, was meant to exonerate her, but in reality, every word was a stab to the heart.

She read a lot of period novels before she transmigrated.

The Fang Wanyu in front of me is clearly the "reborn female supporting character" from that cliché.

Now, they're even acting like they own her place!

"Sister Wanyin, do you need my help?"

A gentle voice came from the doorway.

Qiao Wanyin turned around abruptly, only to find Fang Wanyu already standing at the kitchen doorway.

"No need, thank you."

Her tone was cold and devoid of any emotion.

"Is the tea ready?"

Song Yazhi's voice came from the living room, her tone tinged with impatience.

Fang Wanyu immediately turned around, her voice clear and melodious, "Coming, Aunt Song! I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."

When Qiao Wanyin returned to the living room with the tea tray.

Song Yazhi and Fang Wanyu sat side by side on the sofa, chatting and laughing.

"Mom, here's your tea."

Qiao Wanyin lowered her head and spoke softly, placing the teacup in front of Song Yazhi.

Song Yazhi didn't even glance at her, focusing instead on continuing to talk to Fang Wanyu.

“Li An was very naughty when he was a child. He would climb trees to steal birds’ nests and wouldn’t go home after school. It’s all thanks to you always being there for him and persuading him that he would have gotten into so much trouble.”

"Aunt Song, you're too kind."

Fang Wanyu lowered her head, her voice soft and tinged with shyness.

"Actually, I just happened to be walking together. Brother Li An has always taken good care of me. When I was little, he even protected me from being bullied by others."

As she watched them talking intimately, a tightness settled in her chest.

She coughed lightly.

"Mom, I'll go prepare dinner. Li An will need to eat when he gets back later; he can't go hungry."

"No need to bother."

Song Yazhi replied coldly, her tone devoid of any warmth.

"The dishes that Wanyu brought are enough. They're all ready-made; we can just heat them up and eat. Please sit down first; we haven't finished talking yet."

She sat in the armchair furthest from the sofa, her body ramrod straight.

"I've just figured it out."

Song Yazhi slowly picked up the teacup and gently blew on the steam.

"Since you say you didn't take the jade ruyi, then we'll search your things."

"What?"

Qiao Wanyin suddenly stood up, her voice rising abruptly.

"You want to search my house? This is my house! What right do you have?"

"What, are you hiding something?"

Song Yazhi's gaze was sharp as a knife, piercing straight into her, "You panicked because you couldn't produce anything?"

"No... but this is too hurtful!"

Qiao Wanyin's voice was trembling, and her eyes were slightly red.
