Chapter 226 You're Quite the Speaker

Su Nianxue glanced at her watch; it was almost noon. She hadn't expected that after all this fuss, it would be noon again.

She said to Gu Yanbai, "Are you hungry? I'll go get some food."

"Just eat at the hospital cafeteria, don't go anywhere too far," Gu Yanbai instructed worriedly.

"Okay!" The two women, carrying lunchboxes, left the ward together.

After they walked away, an old man in the same ward smiled somewhat lewdly, "It's good to be young!"

"Grandpa, what do you mean?" Zhou Mingjie was a restless man, even though his hands, feet, and face were injured.

But isn't your mouth still perfectly fine?

Since I'm just killing time anyway, I might as well chat with someone to pass the time.

"Young people are so great, always so lovey-dovey and affectionate."

Tsk tsk, seeing you guys reminds me of my youth.

Back in the day, this old man was quite the handsome young man, and the ladies surrounding me...

Zhou Mingjie glanced at his face subconsciously, a hint of suspicion in his eyes. "Excuse me, sir, may I interrupt for a moment?"

Were the standards for a handsome young man in your time different from those of today?

"Hey, young man, do you even know how to respect the elderly and care for the young?"

"Why can't you hear the point?" The old man immediately became displeased when he heard that the other person didn't believe him and suspected him of bragging.

"I can tell, your focus is on the large group of female comrades surrounding you," Gu Yanbai couldn't help but say.

"That's right, you've got potential, kid. This is how you should chat."

If everyone were like this kid, able to shut someone up with just one sentence.

"Then the conversation will die out, how can we continue chatting?" The old man glanced at Zhou Mingjie disdainfully.

Zhou Mingjie………

He's really out of breath when you say he's fat.

It's as if he's having a rare chat with him.

He wouldn't have paid any attention to him if he wasn't so bored.

I could tell from that this old man was just bragging.

Look at his small eyes; if his eyelids drooped any further, his eyes wouldn't even be visible.

Not only are his eyes small, but they also dart around constantly, showing none of the wisdom and experience one would expect for someone his age.

His navy blue cotton coat was so worn it was practically worn out; anyway, he looked...quite sleazy.

Seeing that he remained silent, the old man thought he was stunned by him.

He immediately started boasting again, giving himself a thumbs up, "Back in the day, I'm not bragging, but I was one of the most handsome men."

Putting everything else aside, there are few who can match my dancing skills.

Back then, countless young girls were eager to dance with me.

Oh my, let me tell you, those girls are all incredibly beautiful!

..."

The old man played with increasing vigor, even humming a tune from his old days, and clapping his hands in a seemingly professional manner.

Gu Yanbai and Zhou Mingjie were completely stunned.

Judging from his practiced manner, what this old man said wasn't entirely bragging.

He was really something when he was young!

The old man became even more smug and talked even more enthusiastically, his voice so loud that it could be heard even in the corridor.

Just as I was feeling happy, I heard an angry shout coming from the doorway, "You old geezer, you're still reminiscing, aren't you?"

If those vixens outside are so alluring, why don't you invite them to serve you?

When you were young, didn't you complain that your mother was boring? Now I have to serve you.

I really owe you something; serving you like a slave for the rest of my life wouldn't be enough.

Even in your old age, you still torment me. Why don't you just die?

Upon hearing the cursing, the old man's smile froze, and he looked at the two of them with a hint of embarrassment.

This awkwardness gradually transformed into ingratiation in their eyes.

The two exchanged a glance. This old man was amazing; they were truly impressed by his face-changing skills.

All three of them stared intently at the doorway.

Then a thin old woman rushed in from outside the door.

She carried a net bag in one hand and a small cloth bag in the other.

"Mom, you brought me lunch. Why are you here so early today?"

The old man grinned lewdly, as if the smug person from before was just their imagination.

"Pah! If I hadn't come earlier, how would I have seen your shameless face?" The old lady walked straight to his bedside.

"Look at what you're saying! How am I shameless? I was just bragging to two young guys!"

The old lady glared at him, completely ignoring his words, "You do no work, all you do is eat all day, what a waste of food."

You're always half-dead, and I'm having a terrible time because of you. Why are you even alive?

The old woman stretched out two withered fingers and pinched his arm hard.

The old man was in so much pain he was wincing, but he dared not move an inch, for fear of angering her and having no food for the next meal.

Seeing how docile he was, the old lady felt bored and threw the net bag she was carrying onto the table next to her with a thud.

The old man hurriedly moved to the table and carefully took the lunchbox out of the mesh bag.

However, when he saw the food inside, his face immediately fell. Why was it pickled vegetables again? He had been eating them for days.

The old lady saw it clearly. "What's wrong? Don't you want to eat it? Then put it away for me. I'll take it home and stir-fry it for dinner tonight."

She made a move as if to snatch the lunchbox from his hand.
