The old man roared in exasperation, "You brat, you're rotten to the core!"
You dare to make fun of an old man like me? Aren't you afraid of getting your comeuppance?
No, you've already suffered the consequences.
Look at your legs, they're all wrapped up like a horrible mess, and you still have such a sharp tongue.
"Why didn't it hurt you to death, you bastard?"
Zhou Mingjie wasn't annoyed. He glanced at him indifferently and said, "You didn't get your comeuppance? Then why are you lying here?"
Don't tell me you came here to have fun!
The old man choked on his words, "What do you know? When people get old, who doesn't have some health problems?"
Zhou Mingjie said lazily, "It's normal to have a problem."
But in all my years, I've never seen a wife let her husband wear a short-sleeved jacket in the dead of winter.
"Is this normal? Don't underestimate me just because I'm young."
"You..." The old man's face turned red. Was he going to get over this misunderstanding today?
However, he is not one to give up so easily.
He stubbornly argued, "Are you blind? I'm wearing a cotton-padded coat, aren't I?"
She just said it casually; she wouldn't actually make me wear that.
Don't I know my wife well enough?
She's always been sharp-tongued but kind-hearted; how could she possibly not let me wear a cotton-padded coat?
Zhou Mingjie retorted calmly, "Grandpa, if you wear this coat for a while longer, it'll get so weathered and worn that I reckon it could be passed down to your descendants as a...family heirloom."
The old man was so angry he was panting heavily. How could this brat have such a sharp tongue?
They can insult people without using any swear words. Are all young people these days this amazing?
But when he looked down at the clumps of dirt on his coat, he suddenly felt discouraged.
That brat has sharp eyes; he can even tell the color from this far away!
To be honest, he himself disliked it, but what else could he do?
After all, compared to freezing to death, being a little dirty isn't unacceptable.
Seeing that he was old and had become so angry, Yang Hongxing wanted to give him some advice.
What if we really angered the old man to the point of causing him serious illness?
But after thinking about it, she shut her mouth again.
When did he ever listen to her?
She glanced at Su Nianxue, who was lying on Gu Yanbai's lap through the quilt, watching them bicker without blinking.
Gu Yanbai lay motionless on the bed, afraid of disturbing her.
She quickly averted her gaze, not wanting anyone to know that she was secretly spying on them.
A bitter feeling welled up in her heart. She glanced at the person on the bed who was getting excited and said, "I'll go wash some fruit for you."
"Go ahead, the edge of the pool is slippery, be careful," Zhou Mingjie warned without turning his head.
Seeing this, the old man quietly grinned, and a glint of light flashed in his beady eyes.
"You brat, you want to know why my old woman treats me like this, don't you?"
Zhou Mingjie's heart skipped a beat, and he had a bad feeling. This old man had probably found a chance to turn the tables.
However, he is the kind of person who never backs down even when he loses.
Even if he was anxious inside, he didn't show it on his face and remained nonchalant, saying, "Yeah, just say it, consider it a bit of fun."
The old man's lips curled into a strange smile. "That's because I loved to have fun when I was young."
He's never serious or proper.
Aside from going to work, I'm almost never seen at home.
He was either playing cards or dancing with women. Of course, sometimes he would also go out eating and drinking with a bunch of cronies.
Aside from providing a small allowance for food, I hardly take care of anything at home.
That's how he completely offended my wife.
When I get old and can't play anymore,..."
The more Zhou Mingjie listened, the colder his heart became. Damn it, why does this old man's life trajectory seem so familiar?
He instinctively stretched his legs, and soon, a piercing pain shot through them.
He immediately grimaced, almost screaming in pain.
The old man laughed heartily, "It would be good if you, you little bastard, didn't know how to respect your elders."
"You old codger, don't get cocky. You might be laughing at me later." He still has to eat dinner, right? I'm not worried about him not laughing back then.
Innocent!
Sure enough, the old man's face fell as soon as he said that.
He knows his own family's situation; he's bound to get a scolding later.
Yang Hongxing was carrying a plate of fruit when she saw him looking like this.
She quickly dropped the apple in her hand and asked, "What's wrong? Are you in a lot of pain? I'll go call the doctor to take a look at you."
Before she could finish speaking, she turned to leave.
Zhou Mingjie grabbed his wrist and shook his head at him, "Don't go, I'm fine, I just strained it."
"Really?" Yang Hongxing asked, half believing and half doubting.
"It's alright. Take these fruits and share them with them."
He glanced at the old man, casually picked up an apple from the basin, and tossed it to him. "Here you go."
The old man immediately beamed with joy, as if all his previous grudges had vanished. "Alright, you're a good guy."
"I don't believe you! You were just cursing me!" Once the pain subsided, he became arrogant again.
"Hehe, you must have misheard." The old man grinned lewdly, picked up the apple with both hands, and put it to his mouth.
"Old man, why don't you say the unpleasant things upfront?"
If you break your teeth, don't come after us!
"Hey, you little rascal, how can you be so heartless?"
